Some of you may have missed the thread started by our cherished friend, Phoenix, informing Gransnetters of her illness and the reason for her recent absence from GN. It has been suggested that a new thread is started, directing her friends to the original thread, where she let us know of her terminal diagnosis.

Sadly, Phoenix is no longer able to read your messages or PMs, but has said how she, her family and close friends have found comfort in the love and support, you have shown her.

This thread will try and keep you all updated, with news provided by a Gransnetter, who is in daily in contact with the family.

A heartbreaking time for us all.

Rest in Peace Phoenix, thoughts are with your family and friends?

I joined Gransnet very early on and don't recall a time when there was no Phoenix She had some very tough times but her sense of fun and the eye for the ridiculous always shone through.

I was proud to be a member of the Dog House and then to be part of Team Phoenix where she kept us entertained in her usual way.

I will miss her.

I didn't 'know' Phoenix, I wish I had, but I found this thread and am in awe of the way she touched so many lives and the way she played her cards. I shall certainly dance to Pata Pata and think of that brave and beautiful spirit dancing towards her next adventure. My sincere condolences to her family and friendsflowers.

All those months ago, for those who remember, when some of us were consigned to the “doghouse”, a group of friends formed a very special bond as a result- who would have thought that good could have come out of such malicious intentions - but as a result we have been able to grow closer as friends, to share with and support each other through joy and sadness . And enjoy Rachel’s quirky sense of humour at first hand. Marydoll mentions wig choosing - oh yes, there were laughs as well.
Phoenix appeared on Radio 4’s “You and Yours” just a few weeks ago talking about coping with major events in one’s life. She was quite upfront about her illness and what shone through impressing the presenter and I am sure all who heard her, was her firm conviction that it’s “not the hand you are dealt, but how you play the cards”.

Yes, all those who “knew” her on GN will mourn her passing and miss her input, and those who got to know her personally, all the more so.”
