Well, what a surprise!

To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Phoenix just read your OP and am so upset....you are one naturally upbeat, humorous, lovely lady...I always think about you whenever I see a hanging basket ?.....and I always will........sending a gentle hug...and love on a moon beam...?

I’m another that missed this thread.

So very sad to hear your news Phoenix , I have enjoyed your posts over the years and will miss the giggles you’ve shared.

I’m hoping you’re feeling a bit better after having to cancel your belated celebrations.

kittylester Mon 16-Aug-21 12:29:28

Lovely posts here for our phoenix.

Just thought you should know that she is not up to reading gn and hasn't been for a few days but she does know about everyone's lovely thoughts.

Kalu Mon 16-Aug-21 13:00:50

Thank you kitty. So sad knowing time is running out for our dear friend. Loved by so many as this thread shows. ❤️

SueDonim Mon 16-Aug-21 13:31:02

That’s very sad, KittyLester. I am hoping for a miracle for Phoenix - this all seems so wrong. ?

Marydoll Mon 16-Aug-21 13:32:40

Such a sad day, Kitty. Many, who know Phoenix have missed this thread, I hope we can keep it going, to alert as many posters as possible.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 16-Aug-21 13:42:46

Holding you in my heart and prayers dear Phoenix

Thinking of Mr.P and their friends and family ?

JulieNoted Mon 16-Aug-21 13:46:41

KittyLester I am so sad to read this. Poor Phoenix, it's so wrong, so unfair, she's always been so full of life sad. She is in my thoughts constantly, I keep hoping for a miracle too SueDonim

Marydoll, do you think it may be an idea to start a thread entitled something like Please see this thread about Phoenix and give the link in the first post? Would that be allowed do you think?

merlotgran Mon 16-Aug-21 14:37:37

Good idea JulieNoted. I often miss a thread because I don’t recognise the content from the title.

So sorry to read that Phoenix is not well enough to read our messages but how lovely that she was able to write one last funny post describing her birthday.

Gransnet will be an emptier place without her.

Marydoll Mon 16-Aug-21 14:49:38

There will be a new thread, as I am aware many have missed her sad news. Typical of Phoenix to not put her name in the title. However, the thread will probably be started by another poster, who is the direct and very supportive link between Phoenix's family and her friends. That's where you should be able to find news.
Until a week ago, Phoenix was still entertaining a few us with her inimitable and no nonsense take on life.

Sadly there will be no miracles.

I too missed this thread from being away and no access to WiFi or 4G for a while . I rarely post but usually read posts most days , so sad to hear about Phoenix , I love her sense of humour and hilarious stories . Wishing her a peaceful time with her family , a much loved poster .

Deedaa Mon 16-Aug-21 15:23:16

kittylester this is sounding so like DH. Two years today since he died and the internet was always his lifeline until he could no longer read his messages. Please keep us in touch, so many people are thinking about her.

Oh kittylester how sad that phoenix is not up to reading gn - she is obviously really poorly. Have been hoping against hope that she would be fine for quite a while yet. Life is so unfair at times.

Marydoll Mon 16-Aug-21 19:28:16

Now addicted to Josephine Solitaire, thanks to Phoenix!

M0nica Mon 16-Aug-21 19:33:01

Posted early on, but not since, because faced with the news Phoenix gave us, what could one say, but I have been following it every day, often with tears in my eyes. Sometimes life is a bitch.

downtoearth Mon 16-Aug-21 19:51:12

So sad. I know many of us always welcome the appearance of another very unique and identifiable Phoenix thread title. Yep, that will be Phoenix we think, and we are usually right. You certainly have your own inimitable style dear Phoenix, a very special funny lady. Gransnet will not be the same without you.

Wishing you peace now. Loving thoughts to you and Mr P, and all your family. xx

BlueBelle Tue 17-Aug-21 08:18:14

I am another who missed this thread, thinking it was possibly about even more family troubles.
How wrong could I be.
Dear Phoenix, you keep us on our toes even now.
Much love and gentle hugs to you and your family.
