Any clever ideas for fun present/s for a new home owner? So far I have the thought of a hamper with cleaning products.

I think a hamper with some nice edible treats that don't need a lot of cooking because it's hard work moving in.

A selection of M and S ready meals to save cooking for a couple of days , or a home made selection if you are a nice cook

I got my DD and SiL a bracket for a hanging basket.

A nice door mat.
A plant indoors or outside.

A nice doorstop, you can get some lovely ones now. Got my son a dog as we have a family pet.

You can get an ordinance survey map tailored to the new home - their house in the middle. This makes a unique and very special gift! You can also choose which image will be on the front - in the past I've found a photo of the new house and used that, but you could use a photo of the family, or whatever you want. You can even choose the title of the map and there are options for scale. If feeling rich you can get it framed! but there are others for under £20.

Who said cleaning products are ‘fun’?

Biscuiteers.com have a lovely New Home section, the biscuits are amazing and come in a lovely tin. They also have an option to add wine/champagne and will deliver straight to the recipient with a gift message.

I've sent OS maps and last time a ready planted outside planter to sit by the new front door.
The planter was raved about because they said it immediately made them feel "settled".

I’d go with the ready meals. Either bought or homemade, ready to shove in the oven or microwave, or out of the freezer.

I often take such meals to a dd when I know things are particularly busy or fraught.

Aepgirl, I was planning to add the odd liquid refreshment too!

That is such a brilliant idea!

A colourful plant for indoors or outside the front door.

I think a garden centre voucher would be best. That way they can chose themselves rather than receive a present that might not suit their decorating ideas....

Nice big "bathsheet" towels. (Good quality.) The ones I've given have always been appreciated - and used!

I bought my friend a pot of flowers to put at her new front door. When I moved I got vouchers for homeware shops, but a special gift was from a close friend who had got a lovely picture made from different textiles of my dog in a flower filled garden. It also had my new home moving in date on it, it's beautiful and I'll treasure it forever.

If there's a garden, some spring bulbs to plant in a few weeks time for a cheerful spring?

pat9 Wed 18-Aug-21 12:48:23

It depends whether this is a first household or a move to another residence. If the latter the ready meals and planter seem jolly good ideas. I gave to someone first setting up a home a washing-up bowl filled with dish cloth, tea-towel, pegs etc. Things that you need but don't necessarily have to start with. Not very exciting but it was much appreciated

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 18-Aug-21 13:07:01

How about an M & S voucher? They can choose what they need!

Lulubelle500 Wed 18-Aug-21 13:38:23

Either a plant for the garden which means New Beginnings, or a week's/month's supply of frozen food for their freezer. (Cook's stuff is quite good. Or, if you're like my OS who is a super cook and always has something on hand (or in gigantic American freezer rather!) that he's very generous with.

A nice bouquet of flowers delivered every month for a few months.

My granddaughter and her fiancé are soon to move into their own home so I’ve made up a box of eco friendly, plastic free cleaning and laundry materials. Added a bird box that I painted and painted a picture of their new house instead of buying a card.
They haven’t moved yet so I haven’t given it to them but I hope they like it and might continue with at least one or two planet friendly products.

Actually I have rethought! I’m going to go with a professional oven clean!
