Bedroom visitor

We used to get them in our dining room when we had bedding plants in big plant pots up against the house wall. I think they were attracted to the damp from the watering. When we moved the pots the problem went away thankfully. I could never have put salt on them though! All God's creatures no matter how ugly.

I used to find them upstairs as well as downstairs when we lived in an old cottage. I put a piece of toilet paper on them, picked them up and dropped them out of the window. They are horrid.

My bloke used to get them in his house when he had uncovered floorboards. I once got up in the night to get a drink and STOOD on one with bare feed. It squished. Between my toes. I'm still surprised my anguished scream didn't wake any of the inhabitants of the house up.

I used to leave our dogs bowl outside but make sure to bring it in now, also I keep the dried dog food in the garage in a flip top bin and I used to find slug trails on the food but now I've put a bag over the food and sealed it with an elastic band round the outside underneath the lid

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the slug outside, given that we don’t usually have slugs in the garden. Her wormer covers lungworm and, even though she’s not due to be wormed yet awhile I’ll give her a tablet today. They last for 3 months but if you get a dog that’s a bit of a scavenger they need treating every month. She’s a grazer so I tend to leave her bits of kibble out as she gets the munchies at night sometimes. Thanks for the reminder. I did wash the tray straight away but it’s best to be on the safe side.

I’m sure you’re not the first woman to find a slug in her bedroom, think about poor Melania.

We have mystery slug trails on our hall carpet, but they have no logical start or end point! There are just a few squiggles randomly dotted around. It’s as though they have a trail-making On/Off switch, just so that they can tantalise us!

I think that they must squeeze themselves through a gap at the bottom of the front door, but they must flatten themselves down to the thickness of a fag paper to get in!

I haven’t actually seen a slug for years, but a random snail seems to be enjoying my courgettes.

I often find slug trails in my kitchen on a rug. There was a big fat one that I put my hand on when I was weeding in the garden yesterday. Yuk!

I’ve turned into a slug detective this afternoon!

No window open last night.
PVC windows and doors
No pets
No gaps I can see in bedroom walls or floor.

I did put salt down in kitchen as I could see the trails near the back door and washing machine which did seem to deter them. But I left the salt down for ages right next to the skirting board which then reacted to the salt, swelled up and rotted so now needs replacing!

It doesn’t help that the bungalows near me were built 50 odd years ago on old marsh land and I have a six foot space underneath mine which takes any flood water after heavy rain, when the water table is very high. The space does not have a concrete floor so gets pretty muddy at times - probably a breeding ground for slugs!

Anyway, last nights visitor will not be back, it was covered in salt before I threw it outdoors!

Other than a salt wall around my bed I have no idea what to do!

?? my worst nightmare, I’d have a wall of rock salt around my bed! Give me a spider any day.

We once had slugs/a slug regularly visiting our kitchen. Same place every night for about a fortnight - slap bang between the dishwasher and our kitchen cupboards. DH would take it outside and fling it into the fields. I moved the dishwasher and carefully blocked every teensy gap I could see in the floorboards and skirting board. But back it came, every night. Then one day I put self-adhesive copper tape on the floor around the dishwasher, having heard that they wouldn't cross it. Well this one made a valiant effort and exploded into four gruesome bits across the kitchen floor. We'd no more visitations after that.

I've since read that slugs have an amazing homing instinct and will return if they're dropped less than 20 metres at least away from their patch. I reckon it was the same slug every night.

And this, folks, is why I never walk about barefooted! It’s a jungle out there, I tell ya!

Shudder. I hate slugs. My worst was finding one on the bathroom ceiling (bungalow), it had climbed up the wall, sated from eating the lupins below, and then came in through then open top window. Thankfully I saw it before it dropped into the hairbrush and hairdryer basket.

Yukkk, sometimes if our cat has been lying in the garden inthe long grass slugs seem to-get stuck in his fur and come In with him.

They can climb up the outside walls. If you have a window open, it could be he’s got through that. They don’t like salt. Try putting some outside, perhaps under your windows. You should be able to see their trails, so you’ll get clues as to the direction they’re travelling.

When we had cats we often found slugs enjoying the cat biscuits in the middle of the night, they squeezed themselves through a tiny crack in the wooden back door.?

It probably did come in on your slipper Teacheranne but if you have any wooden doors or windows it could have got in.
PVC type doors keep them out apparently.

I found a huge one on my dogs kibble tray last night (well, early hours loo visit time). No idea how it got into the house and can only be thankful that I didn’t tread on it. I’d seen one in the garden earlier and I tend not to get slugs in my garden.

Put some egg shells by the bedroom door Teacheranne.
They don`t like crawling over that.
It`s a good chance it did hitch a ride on your slippers/d/gown.
