Good Morning all. How much sleep do you get each night? ( on average)

I sleep for 4 hours, wake up, fall back to sleep for maybe another 2 & that’s it.
I remember the days when I slept for 10 hours straight.
Just wondering if it’s an age thing as I still work and lead a busy life.

When I am not in pain I could sleep for Britain, head hits the pillow sometime after 10 and next thing it is 8 ish and I have slept to 10.15.

About 6 hours, I always go to the loo once and try to not wake my brain up, smileif I start thinking about anything that's me done for the night.

I remember my mum often mentioning however much sleep she had. I don't think we think much about sleep when we are young.
I get about 7 hours these days.

Kalu Sat 21-Aug-21 11:33:17

On average, 6 hrs does me now. No loo trips.
If I have a painful night or worries whizzing round my head I eventually give up on tossing and turning and read my book for a couple of hours by which time it is 2.00/3.00am

I am on a good sleep cycle at present, hoping it lasts, otherwise, lack of sleep leaves me feeling wiped out, trying not to doze off during the day fearing I won’t fall asleep at bedtime. That’s the vicious circle I don’t want to get into.

I am really lucky reading your reports. I go to bed just before midnight and usually sleep till 7.30 or 8.00 am, sometimes a loo visit, but try to avoid if I can. Wonder if HRT helps, sleep was worse before starting, and one of the things the GP asked me about when prescribing.

Between 6 & 7 hours if I'm not stressed. If I'm having a bout of insomnia, it can be as little as 1 1/2 hours a night.

DanniRae Sat 21-Aug-21 12:38:09

I go to bed at 10pm and sleep to 5am (ish) with one or two trips to the loo so about 7 hours. However, if I can't get to sleep I am lucky enough to be able to go to the spare room where I have a single bed and always seem to be able to get to sleep in there.

5 hours according to my Fitbit, sometimes less, like last night. sad

Teacheranne Sat 21-Aug-21 12:40:33

I don’t have any kind of sleep pattern. Sometimes I’m tired by 9 pm and fall asleep, wake up a few hours later then read for a couple of hours before sleeping again. Other nights I cannot fall asleep before 2 to 3 am but then my alarm wakes me at 10am ( without the alarm I might sleep until 12!)

I reckon I need 8 hours sleep and don’t mind if I get it all at once or in two halves. I do go to the toilet a few times but try not to wake up properly. I think that is partly due to age and five pregnancies close together but also because I drink a lot more water now.

I think I read somewhere that in the past it was normal to sleep for a few hours, get up and do some work, and then go back to sleep again for a few hours. Or did I dream this? (See what I did there?) grin

I always slept well for around 7 hours , then my DH became ill and we both had frequent disturbed nights. Since his death 18 months ago I sometimes sleep well for around 7 hours with a quick loo stop . Other times I take hours to get to sleep and often am still awake at 2am. I get up have a bowl of cereal or a camomile tea , read listen to a pod cast and eventually I drop
off . I always set my alarm for 8am and never sleep during the day to avoid a chaotic sleep pattern !
No rhyme or reason for it at all , same routines etc . So if I’ve had 3or 4 nights of bad sleep I take a co- codamol which seems to help -psychological maybe ? I try not to stress about it and just accept it’s an age related thing .

During holiday periods when I am not dragged into daytime by my alarm, I average somewhere between 9 and 10 hours of unbroken sleep a night.

BigBertha1 Sat 21-Aug-21 22:03:27

I'm very similar to Wits end in terms of sleep patter. I am woken often by my painful neck and back but only occasionally need the loo.

About 6 hours, never go to bed before midnight. Then I have a lovely nap in the evening watching TV, I used to worry whether that was normal, but now I don’t care.

not enough.
about 4 hrs.

It’s Sunday morning here at 2.50 am and I’ve just made a cup of tea. I often wake at this time and last night when it happened I watched, for over half an hour, a young fox investigating our cotoneaster bush. There must have been a mouse hiding in it. I gave up watching before the fox gave up his search. I usually get to sleep quite quickly at first and sleep for about four hours then after a break of an hour or so I can sleep for another hour or two but I’m usually awake around 6.
I can fall asleep very easily early afternoon!

grandMattie Sun 22-Aug-21 05:50:26

I’m like you Juliet.
I fall asleep quite easily around 11pm, sleep until around 1 am, am often awake, with eyes shut, for an hour or two then doze until 5ish and that is my lot. I try never to get up if I can avoid it as it wakes me up too much. I have made it a rule to have a good nap after lunch.
Of course, I’m frequently woken up by DH going to the the loo, twice or three times a night, which doesn’t help.
I used to worry and fret but have decide that sleeplessness is a function of menopause and old age, so am less tired.

Yes, I heard that also. I think it was on a history program on tv.

Mollygo Sun 22-Aug-21 06:57:53

Average 6 hours-sometimes more. I sometimes wake several times, but just read on Kindle till I fall asleep again. I don’t sleep during the day, but DH can doze frequently and still sleep from 11pm to 7am!
It seems to be enough.
Anyone else feel more tired if they have a lie-in than if they get up at 7am?

TillyTrotter Sun 22-Aug-21 07:07:22

My usual bedtime is 10.30 pm and I read on a kindle until I am really tired, can be anything up to one and a half hours.
Then sleep until 5 - 6 a.m., go to the loo, and maybe fall back asleep for another hour.
Mostly I don’t and I open the curtains and watch the sky, trees and birds. It relaxing at that time.

M0nica Sun 22-Aug-21 08:04:34

Varies from night to night. Last night, having been on my feet, almost without a break, for about 5 hours, visiting Bletchley Park yesterday, I went to bed at 10.00 and did not wake until about 7.00am

Usually, I have a period of wakefulness in the small hours, which can be anything from a few minutes of barely cosnciousness to wide awake for an hour or more. I get up to go to the loo in the night, but I more or less do that in my sleep, I turn no lights on and do not flush the loo.

GagaJo Sun 22-Aug-21 12:47:25

Shocking nights sleep last night. Didn't manage to fall asleep until about 1.30 then DGS came in bed with me after a nightmare and he couldn't get back to sleep. I think we finally dropped off again at about 4 and then he was up as usual at 7.30.

silverlining48 Sun 22-Aug-21 13:34:25

Dreadful night last night for me too. Was still awake at 2.30, tossing and turning, listened to the world service to block my tinnitus and eventually slept to wake at my usual early hour 4.30am). So two hours for me.

silverlining48 Mon 23-Aug-21 08:15:14

A zopiclone last night gave me 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Oh joy ?

Mattsmum2 Mon 23-Aug-21 08:38:42

About 7ish, sometimes uninterrupted depends on how much I drink, not alcohol, in the evening. May get up once to the loo. Always been a good sleeper, even if I have things on my mind, it seems to switch off at night. I did used to have insomnia as a child but that quickly stopped.
