I attended a cyber security session put on by one of the big insurers and someone there demonstrated how easy it was to obtain details for people who have a social media presence, in particular Facebook and Instagram but not exclusively. One of the easiest ways to obtain info is by looking at their profiles. This is because people give their birthdate or post birthday photos, give children and grandchildren's names etc, which are often used as passwords, post when on holiday (thus alerting they are away from home) etc. With surprising ease he was able to access the email of a CEO, know where they lived, how many children and names of children etc, all done within minutes. It is always best to keep info to a minimum.

Farmor thanks. Yes, a long way from here. I don't know your area very well but my parents loved it. We have visited the west a few times and also once stayed near Castletownsend in a little place called Union Hall. Beautiful country. Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Titanic. We found it interesting. My OH's son has settled in Dublin. He loves it. Thanks for replying.

Nadateturbe Just to clarify - I'm in south east Ireland (Republic), in a rural area near Waterford.

I visited Northern Ireland recently - the Titanic centre in Belfast, which is excellent! However, it's a long way from where I live - we spent the night before and after in Dublin, where I grew up and have family.

Born and grew up in Lancashire,married an RAF chap so moved around a bit. Now settled in Shropshire where we are very happy.

England. I know one of the posters on GN because of something she posted. I see her walking her dog, and often visited the place where she volunteers although I didn’t know she volunteered there when I first went. Since she didn’t respond to a pm I didn’t take it further. What would you do?

I’m American and live in the U.S. I joined Gransnet when an ad popped up (if I remember correctly) and I am very much enjoying it. The day to day issues we face seem to be universal. I find the lifestyle differences interesting as well as unfamiliar words/terms (caster sugar, bin man, gammon and so on). Thank you, GN friends, for the entertaining banter, advice given and friendship.
