Good Morning Everyone,
Looking like another dry day here in brackley this morning .
Yesterday , was an interesting day for me , I went Buckingham and then Bicester , returning to Buckingham later .
Had a wonder through the flea market , my usual cafe was closed for the day so went and ate elsewhere , anyway tow things happened whilst there.
The first was a Stagecoach double decker bus on the X5 Bedford to Oxford run , it was in the new Stagecoach livery , but also carried a name on the front and entrance to the bus of local hero or national hero " Captain Sir Tom Moore" on it
the second was seeing someone who lives in one of the villages close to Buckingham , who I have not seen for over 18 months , once recognising her I put my hand up to her as like we used to .
Take care,
Mick

Don’t think you’ll be disappointed Grandmajean. ?

Urmstongran Sun 29-Aug-21 20:33:03

Ooh, no I haven’t grandmattie - thanks for the recommend. I will upload on my Kindle now to read as my next book.

I love reading. Better than tv any day (although every now and again I do watch something really good but I also swerve a lot of dross - soaps, quiz shows, reality tv). Good job we are all different in our likes and dislikes otherwise life would be boring!

grandMattie Sun 29-Aug-21 17:46:48

Have you “Burial Rites” by Hannah Kent, Urms? Takes place in Iceland. It was fascinating.

Grandmajean Sun 29-Aug-21 14:20:23

Have read "The Nightingale" Urmstongran and really enjoyed it. Will look at this one.

Urmstongran Sun 29-Aug-21 13:02:14

Meant ‘promising’. Huh!

Urmstongran Sun 29-Aug-21 13:00:49

Well spotted fatgran! Quite a few weren’t pensionistas!

P.s. I’ve chosen what seems to be a very praising novel on my Kindle! I’m straight into it, no problem. For the readers amongst us it’s ‘The Four Winds’ by Kristin Hannah. Set in Texas in 1921. She wrote ‘The Nightingale’ which I read a few years ago and would wholeheartedly recommend. A story of French Resistance during WW2.

Grandmadinosaur Sun 29-Aug-21 11:29:43

Good morning from a grey East Yorkshire. What a difference from yesterday where it was sunny and warm. We decided to have a day out in Knaresborough where it was also sunny. Had a lovely leisurely stroll and a sit by the river enjoying an Ice cream. We went early and left mid afternoon so weren’t affected by busy traffic.
Today having a quiet day. Just ourselves to please this weekend as family are away. I’ve cooked a chicken that will have with salad. Just about to head out for a coffee somewhere.
Have a good day all.

Good morning everyone (8pm here in Tasmania)

Nice reading all the posts very enjoyable except of course when illness etc are mentioned.

Read four books over the past few days, decided to leave the TV off and catch up on the reading for a change. I am a fast reader and devour books!

Urms they are very young looking pensioners!

Good morning Mick et al. A cooler day and no sign of sunshine as yet in Glasgow.

Lovely to hear you enjoyed your day out Mick and seeing a friendly face of someone you haven’t seen for such a long time helps too.

A warm welcome to you Daisytwoshoes.

A lazy type day ahead and looking forward to the Grand Prix later.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

Good morning Mick and the GM team from (guess the sky colour) east London ... it’s grey of course.

We had our film night last night and watched The Road to Perdition, which was made in 2002 but we had never seen.
It had Paul Newman (it was so nice to see him again) Tom Hanks (playing a bad man!) and Daniel Craig! Well worth watching but it’s a gangster movie so it’s a bit gruesome.

We have been enjoying the Prom Concerts on BBC 4. It’s sad not to attend any in person, but having shielded for so long, has made me very cautious. The Albert Hall is quite a long Underground journey from our house and I think travelling on the Tube, would make me v nervous.

Hello to Daisytwoshoes and Rosycheeks.
Have a pleasant day Good-Morningers and good thoughts to all who are facing challenges. ?

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 29-Aug-21 10:26:04

Good Morning all from chilly and cloudy Harrogate
Thanks for the good wishes, Brook and Ash and Scentia of course my twin with COVID! Hope you are doing well! We will battle the road together!! Obviously no church today, pity can't get the virtual church til tomorrow - don't feel like church on a Monday!!
I shall have to do some baking this morning and possibly a fish pie for Tea. I've got a wash on, so inevitably there will be ironing for either today or tomorrow.
Good to hear of your trip Mick and the named Stagecoach bus. We have a few named buses here, one is to local swimming hero Jack Laugher!
Apologies Rosycheeks for not welcoming you yesterday, and Welcome Daisytwoshoes - I've been fighting two Chinese viruses, one on my Macbook and one in me!! The Macbook is now cured!!
Good to see you back Urms you'll find we have one or two other Newbies
Have as good a day as you can, folks!

Good morning Mick and all from a sunny Suet on Sea, Lancashire coast. Sounds like you had a nice day Mick.
Out for meal last night and told on entering there was no need for a mask. Seemed strange… My friend ruined his main course by eating a pile of garlic bread, a very healthy helping. I abstained of course, but haven’t a large appetite anyway. Very nice pork medallions but a rather long wait. The usual street entertainment in town with passing drunks.
Then back and watched The Dig as he hadn’t seen it before and I didn’t mind seeing it again.
This morning am taking him to the dunes and beach where he will do some naturalisting? (He’s not a naturist as far as I know?) Very knowledgable on plants etc.
I find visitors a mixed blessing now, part of me really enjoys it, another is quite glad when they move on. My idea of hell would be running a B&B or hotel.
Welcome Daisytwoshoes and thoughts to anyone worried.

Rosycheeks Sun 29-Aug-21 10:17:17

You are all very kind .?

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 29-Aug-21 09:56:54

Good morning everyone from a grey , cool Scottish Borders. Thinking of Gwen and Scentia. Do rest and put yourselves first.
Did a bit of weeding yesterday and it invigorated me to blitz a few cupboards. Dough rising downstairs and after bread making may make a pizza base.
Physio awaits. Have a happy Sunday.

Good morning from a sunny Black Country.

We had a BBQ last night and sat out until 10pm!

Today I am off to spend the day at DS's, as they are going out most of the day, and DGD aged 12 needs looking after as her 17 year old sister is working. So not a quiet day for me. I think it will be more a case of DGD looking after me!

I will stay overnight, then pick up Mum on the way home and bring her here for dinner.

My 'little' brother is 66 today! I say little as he is younger than me, but at 6ft 4 tall he is hardly little! smile

Great photo's Urmston. We were last in Malaga 2018, and hope we can go next year.

Jet2 have offered us a refund credit note for our trip to Portugal on 21st September. We had not booked anywhere to stay, so we have accepted the credit note. We have to redeem it in 6 months though.

Sorry your DH had a bad night Ashcombe I hope he improves of the next day or two.

Welcome to Daisytwoshoes love the name!

Good morning Mick and all. It’s bright and sunny again here in Lancashire. Temperature currently 13 deg C.

Another day with not much planned, loving reading about all your trips out and meet ups though. I felt quite ill yesterday so an easy Sunday for me.

Welcome to any new posters. Congratulations to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs to anybody suffering.

Wishing a safe journey to anybody traveling.

Have the best day possible.

kittylester Sun 29-Aug-21 09:21:22

Morning all from a misty North Leicestershire.

After all the busyness of the last few weeks, we are having a lazy start today.

Our exciting day will then continue with Dh using the barbecue rotisserie to cook pork - hope it works. I'm aiming to get him to cook the turkey on it. grin

Have a good day all.

LauraNorder Sun 29-Aug-21 09:19:15

Good morning Mick and all from a rather dull Anglesey, disappointing after several hot and beautiful days but it may buck up later fingers crossed ?.
We painted the new garage yesterday in what should have been oyster white but looked decidedly grey so will go over it today in something a bit warmer looking.
A very warm welcome to Rosycheeks and to Daisytwoshoes, both great fun sounding names.
Shout out to Gingster, a cheery hello.
Hope the covid grans recover soon, not at all pleasant I’m sure.
I know what you mean about nursing Ash, you need the patience of a saint.
Great photos Urms, a happy looking crowd. Enjoy sitting under that palm tree with a good book and a glass of something demi sec.
I’ll bet Amselerin is missing news of the trains while Urms is in Malaga. Hope your move to the U.K. happens soon Ams.
Sorry not to include everyone, head like a sieve. I think those posters who go to the trouble of making a few notes are extra kind and considerate to want to include everyone. Clearly I’m neither but I do read and enjoy all your lovely posts.
Bye for now. ?

Mapleleaf Sun 29-Aug-21 09:16:34

Morning all,

Greyduster has the forecast for our area spot on. Quite a contrast to yesterday, but good for us in one respect as it's "tackle the hedge day" which has had a growth spurt. Yesterday would have been too hot to do it, really.

Welcome to the new posters, so nice to have you join us.

Mick that's a nice gesture by the bus company.

Well, I'd better stir myself if that hedge is going to get done today.

Take care everyone.

aggie Sun 29-Aug-21 09:02:49

Good morning all, it’s raining here ,!
Must be because hi watered my wee bit of a garden
Welcome all new posters , I’m useless with names so I’ll not name anyone . It’s nice to see new names pop up , but sad to miss some regulars
Have the best day you can, and look forward to better times xxx

Grammaretto Sun 29-Aug-21 08:54:02

Good Morning all from the Scottish Borders. It was boiling hot yesterday and as we went for our evening walk , my df and I recalled that the last week in August is always good weather, just after the schools go back. Remember that if you are thinking of a holiday in Scotland. It's also the last week of the Edinburgh Festival .

I shall be going to virtual church, meeting the Registrar and couple who are proposing to have their wedding in my garden next month, harvesting my summer vegetables and planting some overwintering crops that sounds like I have a farm! probably other things as well.

Lovely photos Urms you'll have the place to yourselves now.
Welcome to Daisytwoshoes
DGD tested negative for covid but still has some horrid, back to school virus bug DD has forgotten what it's like to nurse a sick child.
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend everyone. Special thoughts for all those who are poorly or those on nursing duty .

Good morning everyone from a dull overcast start to the day here on the east coast of Fife. It’s really good to get this thread with today’s date on it it’ll be good for when I get a memory test.Would you believe it ever since my dearly departed neighbour was asked by a hospital doctor to recite the months of the year backwards I’ve been rehearsing for when it’ll be my turn wink

That’s himself up and dressed asking what I’d like for my breakfast not many like him in a pound smile I’m really blessed.

Talking of being blessed we’re planning a visit to church this morning we’ve no longer to book a place, just turn up and continue to keep safe.

I’ve got the white trousers and tee shirt out ready to jump into, not literally of course I’ll need to wait until my carer comes. I’m hoping for a sunny sunny afternoon. We don’t really need to dress up, these days are long gone. I’ll wear a smart jacket though to keep the oldies right wink

To all who are in despair today, virtual hugs I’ll even say one for you. Take care have a lovely sedentary Sunday full of goodness.flowers
