Much missed through Virus

What are the things that spring to mind that you are missing through Covid; small things etc?
Mine is being in a happy, packed out pub or club and dancing at Irish live music meet ups.

I miss freedom and spontaneity. I hate having to be constantly vigilant, and the stress attached to even the smallest of things - opening the door to the postman, getting a haircut etc etc

Hugging friends and family

Singing and Choir practice

Painting with my Art Group

Not being able to see a doctor or even get a telephone appt so having to juggle all my health conditions on my own. Could not have coped without the online support groups I belong to.

Trips to the cinema and theatre.

I miss live music and long face to face evenings of relaxed conversation with a groups of friends. I think the loss of the latter affects me most as the ability to just relax listen and chat seems to have deserted me.

Going where I want when I want. Specially visiting family. Covid made me realise what was important to me and what wasn’t.

I lost 18 months of my life...

Travelling abroad: 4 trips cancelled during past year and a half.
Meeting friends and family, although now that has eased off.
Generally choosing to do things spontaneously.

I agree with most everything said here, though I am not one for holidaying or gyms, etc.

but I think spontaniety (if only I could spell it) looked it up, checked it. still it is underlined in red! duh!

so I miss my active brain, it is not so frisky! not sure if grieving or the lockups affected me in so many ways..

but oh yes, BigBerthal
I so agree,, what does a doctor look like? I have been very healthy, but now,, so many different things , but can`t see a doctor, and come on!!! who wants to divulge our problems to a receptionist, cos that is what we have to do, discuss with a receptionist what we want to talk to doctor about, and maybe, JUST MAYBE need a physical examination???

and the receptionist decides if you can have a TELEPHONE appt.. I have really lost my trust and everything in doctors, well not the hospital doctors! what makes them so different?

rant over.

Making travel plans without any stress.
Face to face meetings.
Not worrying about every little illness just in case …..
Seeing my grandchildren enjoying school with no restrictions.

Miss going to the theatre. Meeting a big group of friends but mostly miss feeling safe wherever I am and whatever I am doing.

Taking the motohome to France and then into Spain. I know we could but I’m not very good at jumping through all the hoops needed to enable this ?

MayBee70 Fri 03-Sept-21 15:23:38

I feel so much happier for having socially distanced chats with fellow dog walkers, something I wasn’t doing before being vaccinated. I can’t imagine what the last year would have been like without forums and Facebook etc.

I miss choir practice. This fell together with our conductor announcing that she was giving up, so everything is up in the air. We are a church choir so we have a couple of commitments coming up. At the moment, we are allowed to sing in church, but that might change back to no singing between now and Christmas.

henetha Fri 03-Sept-21 09:52:23

I miss going to the cinema and can't quite bring myself to start going again. But I hope I do.

nadateturbe Fri 03-Sept-21 09:50:15

Our surgery has a system where you state your name etc a door opens, you enter a room, temperature taken then the inner door opens. Or doesn't! Sometimes people don't know how to face the temperature "machine".
Especially older folk. And you can't bring anyone with you. I spent about ten minutes recently trying to help someone through the window and more time via intercom getting an actual person to come. Long queue, time wasted. I wonder what the staff are doing.

Gingster Fri 03-Sept-21 06:58:01

Sorry BigBertha

Gingster Fri 03-Sept-21 06:57:41

Your post applies to me too BugBertha. Can’t get an appointment for love nor money.

Juliet27 Fri 03-Sept-21 06:42:34

I miss trying on glasses and being able to put them back on the rack rather than in the tray you’re having to carry so they can be disinfected.

M0nica Fri 03-Sept-21 06:37:01

Just not having that nagging concern behind everything I do, COVID

BigBertha1 Fri 03-Sept-21 06:22:37

I miss being able to make an appointment to see a GP. Neither of us normally go more than once a year for some checks but DH has a worrying on going problem which affects us both.

Lucca Fri 03-Sept-21 06:17:30

What is your surgery doing that is so bad ? Surely they’re just taking reasonable precautions ?

Kim19 Fri 03-Sept-21 03:40:18

An afterthought.....my reasonably efficient and welcoming local surgery has turned into Fort Knox. I'm ashamed, angry and embarrassed at how they are treating patients now but happily I don't have to avail myself too much of their services at present.

nadateturbe Fri 03-Sept-21 03:39:59

Just being able to stand close to people without worrying.

Kim19 Fri 03-Sept-21 02:54:40

Missing the joy of train travel rather than trepidation in doing so. Stopped using buses and back to car. Also not visiting cinema and theatre which I love. Hate wearing a mask but, of course, always comply. How people say they get used to them I will never understand.

nanna8 Fri 03-Sept-21 01:40:25

In Melbourne now just-everything. It is awful, really restrictive and no wonder people are moving and setting up home elsewhere in Australia.
