In my case, Benidorm?

Shelbel Mon 13-Sept-21 18:23:03

Orange free state in South Africa. It was many years ago but we were travelling through to Durban. Its a flat, scorched red earth place.

Yes, Edinburgh is so grey...

Bakersfield, California.

Singapore - where we were virtually kidnapped by a taxi driver who decided to drive us round and round for miles while his metre was running. Either he did not know where our destination was or he did but wanted to spin out the journey for as long as he could. Eventually he stopped at a traffic light and we got out.

It is sad that one rogue taxi driver can blight one's experience of a place.

Just thought of another one - St Osyth.

Cornwall. It’s scruffy and full of rocks.

Skegness, Grimsby, Margate, Worthing.

Disneyland California.

Las Vegas. Didn’t hate it but wouldn’t go again.

PS I lived in Lagos for five years and loved it! grin

FannyCornforth Mon 13-Sept-21 18:47:05

SueCornwall!? An entire county?

Georgesgran Mon 13-Sept-21 18:47:29

Forgot to add Tunisia. Going way back and 3 girls confided they’d never been out of the hotel, except to the pool and that was a dangerous place.

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder on this thread. Excellent!

SueDonim Mon 13-Sept-21 18:59:44

Well, I haven’t visited every nook and cranny of Cornwall, to be fair, grin but I just don’t feel the love for it that everyone else does. It’s so scruffy and some of the towns look derelict. I much prefer Somerset, of the W Country counties.

FannyCornforth Mon 13-Sept-21 19:02:02

Sue it’s far too busy, I’ll grant you that. It’s very hard to go anywhere in the UK now that isn’t over crowded

TillyTrotter Mon 13-Sept-21 19:04:39

I wouldn’t want to visit Amsterdam again although I know it is loved by many who make frequent return trips.
I was unwell while there so maybe that didn’t help me form a good impression.

Scotland has plenty of unspoiled places - places where you can walk for miles and never see another soul.

CanadianGran Mon 13-Sept-21 19:56:37

There are no places that are on my no-go list, but some that I probably wouldn't go back just because I've seen it once and that was good enough.

The first time we went to the Dominican Republic, I thought it was magical; palm trees, powder white sand and turquoise water. When we returned 5 years later, all that was still the same, but the people there somehow seemed changed. Were they hardened to tourists? I'm not sure, but somehow there was a rougher edge to the place.

Portugal , we stayed in a villa that friends of ours had stayed in previously and loved the area. The place was deathly quiet we never seen any one the whole week while walking through the urbanisation load of villas just no people around it was mid October. We went for a walk and walked through another urbanisation same there everywhere was shutted up apart from one bar we had a drink and stayed for an hour no other people even walked past.

grannyrebel7 Mon 13-Sept-21 20:11:23

Prestatyn, awful place! In fact I don't like North Wales at all. All that grey slate is just depressing.

grannyqueenie Mon 13-Sept-21 20:24:31

Probably every holiday either at home or abroad I’ve come home saying I’d happily go there again… but not Barbados!

kissngate Mon 13-Sept-21 20:32:05

Milton Keynes- dreadful
Rhyl - rough
Barmouth - beach full of sewage
Glasgow - rough
Harrogate - over rated
Harlow - just awful
Westward Ho - horrible place
Naples - dirty
Lanzagrotty - speaks for itself

MissAdventure Mon 13-Sept-21 20:40:35

I have enjoyed a lot of these places!
I'm outraged! shock

Gibraltar- because if I want Marks and Spencer’s and red post boxes I can get them at home in the UK.

Luckygirl I’m with you 100% about Edinburgh it’s grey, grey, cold and grey. Give me Glasgow any day.

Aah, but in Gib you can get much more sunshine?

Sweetpeasue Mon 13-Sept-21 20:59:19

Agree Grannyrebel7 - - Prestatyn.
Workington
Galashiels - - very rundown. Public loos disgusting. Used needles on the floor

CanadianGran Mon 13-Sept-21 21:00:55

To those who did not like Barbados; please explain your reasons? It has always been on my bucket list.

BoadiceaJones Mon 13-Sept-21 21:08:37

The public toilets at Temple Street markets, Hong Kong.

srn63 Mon 13-Sept-21 21:08:52

Two places, hated them both equally, New York or rather the people, just too rude! The Isle of Wight, apart from Osbourne house which was lovely, the rest is just a ghastly place.

Chewbacca Mon 13-Sept-21 21:13:18

Me too MissA! I've had so many wonderful holidays on the Isle of Wight and can't understand how anyone couldn't find something of interest there, apart from Osborne House. So many little hidden coves, beautiful beaches and places of interest to explore; I'm still finding new ones 30 years later!
