M25 protesters chaos

That may be so rosie1959 but there is no defending the erosion of the legislation around drivers' hours. I posted about it on another thread this morning. The current easing of the rules is not unprecedented but if it becomes permanent, or the rules are further eased, it is a bad thing. And it is the Government who have to manage this, it can't be left to the industry to police itself. Because all it takes is one driver or operator to cause an accident due to driving long hours and the uproar would be huge. Can you imagine what GN would say?

Algerias haven’t that always been the case though way before the pandemic
Good drivers are now like gold dust so you would think hauliers want to look after them and not put any undue pressure on them because if the driver doesn’t like where he works pretty sure he/she could find another position pronto

Funny enough I did know those facts Algerias my friend owns a large haulage company and has very often discussed the intricacies of planning ect so I was presuming as professionals those drivers know their job and what is a reasonable run. They do get caught out by delays and run out of driving time so another employee goes out and picks up the wagon

I wonder why there's so much effort put into drivers' hours enforcement then when all that's needed is a bit of common sense?

I mean its not like unscrupulous operators would expect drivers to drive beyond their allowed hours. Or hard pressed drivers trying to make ends meet wouldn't ever be in a situation where they think that they could just squeeze in a few more hours before their break.

How can the police move them on when they are glued to the floor? They have to wait for special units to use chemicals to release them. It’s all time consuming and the amount of police needed just isn’t to be found.
A lot of them had travelled from long distances using their own cars maybe they could crush their cars so they can’t get to the demos or cause more pollution getting there!

Why do you think we have drivers' hours laws? Why do you think tachographs are mandatory and there is so much legislation around them? Why is it that Operators can lose their O-Licence for contravening the regulations?

But yes, of course, the truck drivers can just stop driving when they are tired, that would work.

It’s not the protester being spattered across the M25 that’s the problem but the vehicles that have to break to avoid them and the effect on those drivers

Protestor runs out in front of lorry on a motorway, is injured and possibly killed.
It is not his fault, however, but the lorry driver's fault because he worked for too long because the Government said he could.

Goodness me, I've just seen the videos. What an absolute arrogant, contemptible man, who couldn't care less about the stroke victim or anybody else. Yes his exit was as childish as Piers Morgan's. Don't get your own way, storm out like a truculent teenager.

The motorway authority have taken out an injunction which means anyone blocking it as the protestors are can be arrested and put in jail for being in breach of the injunction.

Insulate Britain needs a better spokesperson that Liam Norton. Refuses to reply about whether his home is insulated so that's probably a 'No' and then storms off the set when the going gets tough. Very grown up.

At last then it appears the police are doing what they are paid for.

Let’s hope this is the end of the mindless activities of those who consider it acceptable to disrupt the lives of thousands of people going about their business.

I hope the courts throw the book at them.

Diesel engines do not take kindly being used for short town trips hence my DH uses his bike
He is a big bloke and has had this car quite a while and we cannot afford to replace it at this time we have a smaller car for local runs

We should be setting an example - by taking serious action against climate change - now, not later.

On the news they were saying that Surrey police made over 20 arrests this morning and cleared the M25 fairly quickly. Let’s hope that this is the polices new strategy from now on.

Living where we do it’s not easy to avoid the M25/M11 or even the A roads (127/12/13) the smaller village/country roads are just not suitable and are not built for excess traffic.
