It’s late but I can’t resist sharing good news - DD’s baby son arrived safely around 11pm. All are well and they hope to be home tomorrow (Thu). ? ??

SueDonim as soon as you said that your DD felt too tired to have a baby, I knew it wouldn’t be long before she started. I hope it’s not too long before you have some happy news for us all.

Evening, dear Peeps of the Kitchen
I'm getting worried that the next post I type might just go into the ether, because everyone will have had to pack up and leave in a hurry. Please don't go too far away, soop. Anything can happen (and often does) when you aren't keeping a watchful eye ?. And last to leave, please switch on the Dishwasher!

Have I had a busy day? Wow. The sun was pouring through the windows this morning, which made me set about cleaning them. I then had a real blitz of our bedroom. Not only usual laundry but washed, cleaned, dusted, polished, vacuumed every last inch, including all the corners. Plants have been sorted out, en suite has been polished, mattress turned and........a new duvet (well, a spare one) has been removed from storage and my wonderful down one we took to the laundry. Nice lady said it would be ready by 7pm when they closed - this was at 4pm. We said, no worries, we'd be back tomorrow. All looks sparkling clean now - not even a trace of a cobweb or itsy bitsy spider. Just need to press on and do the rest of the house now and GrandmaFrench's Spring Cleaning (just a tad overdue) will be complete. We are just unable to do anything really energetic when it's so hot, but today has been very windy and only 23 degrees, so we've come to life, as it were!!!

Incidentally, Grandmajean, ferns are tough if you don't let them sit in water or be terribly dried out. Yours looks very healthy. Can you bear it taking over the corner of your bathroom and plan to split it into, say, 3 plants in the Spring? That's probably more stressful for you if you're anxious around house plants, but you never know you might be very proud of yourself when the time comes!. ?

Hurrah for Mr Muse's leg, let's hope that someone really pushes now to get that better for him. Very sad news about his friend's Wife. Doodle you are just like me over varifocals. I look (and feel) as if I have just stepped out onto the moon when I try those. Never have got on with them - it's kind of 'one giant leap for mankind' with me wobbling about and putting my feet where they shouldn't be. My Optician told me (rather unkindly, I thought) that I should have started getting used to them when I was a lot younger and they wouldn't work now. (He was right).

I also have Astigmatism, Jax. One eyeball football-shaped, one eyeball rugby ball-shaped; oh what a fetching wench!! This makes prescriptions more difficult and contact lenses a no-no.

Sorry to disappoint, by the way, but there will be no mobs of Police visiting our neighbours and their building site and asking questions about the badly-built house! Oh no, siree, this is France - where life happens only slowly (and sometimes not at all). We need to wait until the house is built, occupied, and the occupants make a lot of noise before the Police will attend, apparently. Well of course we do. Any involvement by the Police would only be of the comic variety, otherwise. Bet they're not terribly well up on measuring the depth of footings and worrying about load-bearing walls! Not sure why the town planners told 3 of us that the Police would come and inspect it. Think they might have been on the grape juice at the time our letter arrived. But others more qualified have looked - we are waiting for a verdict and you Kitchen ladies shall be the first to know

Never mind builders - what about that little Babba, SueD? On the way, at last, and how exciting is all of that. Try to sleep tonight if you can - the calm before the storm.

Disgusted at your Son's treatment Hello - that's all I'm saying. Hope he is feeling somewhat better - if only for some sleep; and your DD is in better shape now. I looked online for those magic straws (very long ones which enable the holder not to need to hold, just to drink from any angle. Brilliant, except every website sold out. That's the story of our lives at the moment, I think.

You earned your Grandparent awards today, Urms - in the shape of a drink and a bit of a sit down in the Pub'. There's something about the heat and noise and mayhem of drying little shivery kids after a trip to the swimming pool that can give me an instant thirst headache! I lost my place in the news - did you buy a teddy-bear coat or just covet one?

Henry has a goldfish called Sharky, Susan? My DH commented that he hoped H just has a sense of humour and his fish doesn't have teeth to match the name!

corner I seem to have missed a mention of varifocals that Doodle referred to. If you do get some, Asda are brilliant, one pair that go dark in the sun a bit plus a pair of sunglasses £215, this was about February 2019, I also have a stigmatism in one eye, so not a simple prescription.
Ohhh, baby Sue hope all goes well, very exciting, bet you’ll be in hyper alert for the phone, she can join in soops panting.

My DGC always loved the climbing wall. Good exercise and fun. I expect grandad is better of standing at the bottom and shouting encouragement though.

corner new glasses are expensive. I buy single vision lenses now not varifocals and they work our cheaper. Of course you have to keep swapping glasses depending on what you are doing but I could never cope with the varifocal ones

Hope you have success with your bendy straw. I know you can buy plastic ones that you can bend but I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for.

Popping in to say I’ve just waved my dd and her Dh off to the maternity unit. She asked me last night to come down and see her today to keep her entertained so I drove down at lunchtime. I’d barely parked my bottom on her sofa when things began happening so hopefully there’ll be news by morning.

Not long back home after taking the smalls to swimming lessons after school (L’il Miss’ first ever at 4y old). We had picked them up from school, given them their tea p, changed them out of uniforms & into swimwear - and pyjamas for the Boy Wonder to swim in too. Busy busy. Then the bear garden of showers, children shivering, finding a cubicle ...

When we left the sports centre they were both mesmerised by the ‘climbing wall’ with harnesses, ropes and supervision. They begged us to take them SOON.

Grandad: I think I’d be really good at that.
L’il Miss: No grandad, you’d break the ‘string’! ?

Love it. Made us both giggle whilst having a well deserved pint and a glass of wine in the bar downstairs on the way home!

Ferns like the warmth and moisture in bathrooms, grandmajean, so I expect your fern would like to stay there. Could it be hung from the ceiling in a macrame hanging basket?

No idea about the fern grandmajean, unless you just try to remove the longest leaves or move it to a bigger shelf - sorry not much help I know?

I’ve had a good day catching up with my friend after our Aqua session at the gym. Lots of laughter and chatter, just what’s needed and the quickest two hours ever!
