Riverwalk same here, I think I’m going to stick with Octopus and fix for 2 yrs too my monthly payment will go up £20+ not happy but everywhere else I look it’s similar monthly payment.

The good thing with Octopus is that with the 2 year fix you can cancel without charge at any time - so if the price of energy goes down (hardly likely) we can go back on to the variable tariff.

Such a bloody minefield trying to second-guess 'the market'!

Thanks .*tanith*. The hope is my E-on smart meter will be able to ‘talk’ to Octopus, so I shouldn’t need to do anything.

First payment has gone out today, so fingers crossed.

I'm with British Gas Evolve and I only pay by direct debit to get the lowest rate. It's set at £5 a month, to cover the standing charge. I send in my meter readings monthly (they email to remind me) and when they send back my usage I always pay it immediately - so they can't increase my DD.

I’m with Shell, fixed until April 2022, I have a smart meter, it lives in a drawer, switched off, the readings are sent in from the actual meter outside.

Georgesgran you can put your readings in online very easily, i do mine every month and get my new bill almost straight away.

I used to be with octopus then switched to peoples energy but about two months ago I switched back to octopus thank goodness ?‍♀️

Georgesgran Sun 19-Sept-21 20:35:24

I’ve just gone with Octopus too, via M&S. It’s £25 a month more than I’m currently paying, but as that’s really just an estimate and I don’t think I’ll use the same amount as last year. I was told to ring in my meter readings monthly as that would keep payments on track. Perhaps I’ll use my winter fuel payment for its intended purpose this year.

It is all such a pain - frankly it was a lot easier when it was all nationalised - none of this tatting about trying to find the cheapest deal. It was doing that that has landed me n this situation now s I went with a small company with a cheaper deal - now bust!

Riverwalk Sun 19-Sept-21 14:32:48

tanith our monthly payments will go up but this is based on current usage - so I'm thinking to fix the new rate of charges but make a concerted effort to reduce usage.

Riverwalk Sun 19-Sept-21 14:28:51

I'm another Octopussy. My fixed rate finishes at the end of today so I have to decide whether to fix for another 2 years, at an increased rate of course, or risk the variable rate.

Who bloody knows!

Another happy Octopus customer here, well so far so good really as we only switched a few months ago. Previously we were with EDF.

tanith Sun 19-Sept-21 13:28:22

I’m with Octopus and have been very happy with them but now my fixed rate is ending my monthly payment is going up considerably I’m going to look around but would prefer to stay with them.

We signed up to Green Network Energy from Eon, and were very happy with their prices and service.

Unfortunately they went bust several months ago, and OFGEM decided to allocate their customers to EDF.
They promised to keep prices the same as GNE until this month, and no real problems with them.

However, their new tariffs for dual-fuel energy have risen considerably, and we have decided to go to Octopus.
Very happy with them so far, we will see how it goes.

Aldom Sun 19-Sept-21 13:11:39

I'm in the same boat with gas and electricity. My supplier People's Energy went under last Tuesday. Ofgem advise not changing supplier independently, but to wait for them to allocate a new supplier. The amount in credit is safe and will be transferred. Once allocated to the new supplier I can if I chose, find my own supplier.
It's going to be a very expensive exercise I fear.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Sept-21 13:07:01

Nationalisation needs looking at.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Sept-21 13:06:21

No but I’m with a small company.

What happens if you are in credit?.

Normally the customers will be way done the list to repay. I assume this won’t be the case?

Jane71 Sun 19-Sept-21 13:05:24

Crikey, that’s scary: good luck with a new company.
We only electricity and use Ecotricity for our supply. That wasn’t your supplier was it?
It’s one reason that I think all our infrastructure should be state run.

Luckygirl Sun 19-Sept-21 12:16:09

The company that supplies my electricity has gone bust. I do not have gas, but the rocketing prices have killed this company because it also supplies gas.

I am waiting for OfGen to allocate me to another supply company under the Supply of Last Resort system.

Is anyone else in the same boat?
