i've just clicked on the link above, and it is the beginning of You & Yours from today, 11/10/21, with winifred robinson talking about cuts in trading standards funding, and lack of publicity about the dangers of magnets.

Says I have to sign up. I'm assuming your referring to strong magnets that can be harmful or small ones that can be swallowed. Or am I wrong.

I guess you are referring to the magnetic beads craze, little beads which stick together to make different shapes? There have been several articles in newspapers about children who have swallowed several of them which are then attracted to each other in the stomach or intestines causing a blockage which can be fatal. Very dangerous toys.

Yes of course. These small magnets are dangerous if swallowed. As are the small watch-type batteries which children often manage to find. They can kill.

I would hope all parents are aware of the dangers, but reminders should be frequent.

sorry if people cannot access the link.
if you have not signed up for bbc, it's quite easy to do so, and free.
the item concerns a mother who bought this so-called toy as requested by her 10 year old.
later a 22 month old in the same house became increasingly unwell. they sought medical attention, but the situation became very dangerous before medics realised what was wrong. luckily this child survived. just.
the mother states that the items are so small, likening them to pearl sprinkles on fairy cakes, it is impossible to keep track of them, esp with crawling babies/toddlers.
