Makemorenoise are self described "terfs" so people might not want to align themselves with them.

The poster, if I remember correctly, said that they "had no problem with anyone being a TERF but they should come out and own up to it".

so how was the questioned framed trisher I mean was it asked in such a way as to imply that there were GN's who are TERFS?

What was it about the content of posts that made the person who asked, think there maybe anyone on GN who may identify with, or label themselves in this way. Up until we went out last night, I hadn't seen anything whatsoever that would have made the question justified.

TERF wasn't used as an insult. The feminist organisation Make More Noise was being discussed. They proudly identify and label themselves as TERFs. I believe the question asked was did anyone on GN do the same.

Possibly freedomfromthepast. They might have decided that when the slur "TERFS" was used to describe posters, it had gone too far and was time to can it.

If GN believed it was none of those things, then it may very well have been:

"becomes seriously unpleasant or a bunfight, we may decide it is best to delete it"

Again, this is GN's platform. They have final say.

You could message a mod and ask why it was deleted and ask to have it reinstated. I do not think it is unreasonable to ask the mod who removed it to post here and explain why.

I would much prefer they lock threads vs. deleting them. But I am sure they have a reason for not doing so.

The vanished thread was neither libellous nor racist or otherwise broke the law. All of the links provided, by all sides of the discussion, we're bona fide and their were a lot of carefully considered responses too. It only went pear shaped when it was, imo, deliberately side tracked, probably for the reasons given by Doodledog @ 17.49. It's very difficult to bring any thread back on track when that happens, especially if the sidetracker is grimly determined to derail it and cause problems.

I was following the deleted thread. The robust debate was largely informative and interesting. I last read it early evening and when I looked this morning it had gone. Why?

You make a good point Doodledog. However it is their sandbox, we just bring the shovels and pails. Sometimes they will rake the sand when they think it needs it. All we can do is wait and on the wings and return with our pails when they are done.

If that’s the case it would be good if the mods read it first, and responded to the points raised. If it’s bad manners to start a new thread, it is surely also bad manners to simply nuke an existing one with no explanation?

If we keep posting pictures of fluffy bunnies maybe the moderators won't notice!
