What does colour mean to you

In summer when I sit facing the orchard which is fifty shades of green, I feel rested and at peace. If I sit at the other end of the table facing the flowers beds full of colour I feel lifted, stimulated, joyful.
My bedroom is soft blues with a hint of lilac, I feel rested there.
Yellow makes me think of daffodils and sunflowers, a happy colour.
Brown shades and some shades of grey make me feel miserable.
What does colour do for you?

I love colour. I'm known for my adventurous colour code for clothing and my hair colours too

Namsnanny, your artistic friend might be interested in a new exhibition - Late Constable - at the Royal Academy from today until mid Feb. The publicity for it uses a sea and skyscape predominantly using greys. Sorry, can’t share a link.

How thoughtful of you Happiyogi it sounds just my cup of tea too!.
A few years back I saw an exhibition of Turners sketches at the NG and I found them totally absorbing.
I'll send an email pointing it out to her. Thanks?

My pleasure Namsnanny. I hope you both get to enjoy it!

I wish I could direct you to the player, but my memory is not so good, Boz. I think it may have been Sky Arts.

Try BBC iplayer Dr James Fox. It's a few years old so may not be on there. He went through paintings by colour the episode on blue stood out for me.

I once had a grey outfit but after some time realised that whenever I wore it I seemed to have a miserable day. I think the colour did actually affect my mood.

There are some super programmes now streaming on i-player about art, and the use of colour in art. I watched one last night about artists and the French Riviera, and how violet and yellow came to typify the light there. Monet especially.

Which player are these programmes on?

Sorry I didnt put that very well!

Ahhh, but who set the idea that say red is for passion? Maybe they're wrong and we just follow on.
Homer described the sea as 'wine red' the ancient Greeks seemed not to have a word for blue!(?)

I suppose we wear what suits our skin tones and hair colour rather than reflecting personality.
I must say since allowing my grey hair to show I have changed from mainly blues in my wardrobe to deeper pinks and even purple. Well that’s what happened yesterday when I went clothes shopping for the first time since early 2020.

PollyTickle Sun 31-Oct-21 10:03:47

After reading all your thoughts it got me thinking.
Does what we wear reflect our personality?
My most outgoing and fun friend wears mostly pale greys, always very glamorous but also subtle.
The quiet and most shy of us wears a lot of red.
Opposite to how I would think a reflection of personality would go.

I love to dress in bright colours. My favourite colour is blue. I shop in one particular store. The owner commented earlier this year about the amount of bright blue clothes that I buy. smile I also wear lots of yellow, orange, red and bright green. I love vibrant colours. This includes shoes, handbags and jewelry. Oh and of course lipstick.

Despite a brown school uniform, Autumn colours in all their glory are still my favourites.

These are the colours that suit me best, and the ones I most enjoying living with.

I like the colour blue but not on walls. It always feels cold. Too much colour on walls can also have the same effect. Although I used to like the old fashioned colourful carpets.

GrannySomerset Sat 30-Oct-21 18:37:11

Having hated my unflattering school uniform all those decades ago I never buy anything predominantly brown in any shade, though we are still living with beige carpet in sitting room and stairs, too good to ditch but definitely on my list.

We have a successful (very light) grey kitchen with one teal wall and sofa and teal, turquoise and white tiles. A warm grey is a really good background for other colours.

Hate any shade of grey.Green is my favourite very restful. My neighbour bought me this lovely autumn bouquet.Which makes me smile!

My favourite colour is green, but I like pink, purple, and burgundy too. I like most shades of blue. The 2 colours I hate are yellow and orange. I love them both in a garden, but I never wear yellow or orange and I would never have decor in those colours.

Most of my home has white walls, one grey one in the bedroom. That said I have a bright coloured sofa and chair with multi coloured cushions, a fabulous huge canvas in bright colours(turquoises/yellows/pinks) and a multi coloured hand woven rug. The grey in the bedroom is lifted with different bedding, some pink, some yellow some reds depending on my mood and coloured throws to tone in. I've had grey carpet on stairs to keep it neutral as wanted to avoid anything beige as my married life was beige as was my now exh?

I love colour. I really don’t get the modern fashion of grey everywhere. Carpets, suites, cushions, curtains. I couldn’t bear it. I’ve just visited a friend who has recently moved and is getting all new furnishings. I asked what colour. She replied grey in varying shades and navy blue curtains. ??
