I decided when GN revamped their permissions page that I didn't want to have the "legitimate interest" stuff tracking me either, so every time I log in I now have to click on about a dozen separate buttons refusing this that or the other legitimate interest permission. I asked why they didn't just have a "reject all" button like a lot of sites, but no, they couldn't do that because to use Google's ad placing (which gives them a tiny amount of money every time someone clicks on one of the ads) they have to use the one they are given.
They have to accept the ads they are given too, which are triggered automatically when certain words are detected on a GN page. That is why if we mention (for instance) buyng paracetamol at Boots we see an ad for zip-up knee-high footware.
