Hallowe’en v Trick or Treat

Hallowe’en is not like it used to be. We’ve had no children calling here for several years but I’ve always had a bowl of sweets and fruit ‘just in case’ which dh has eaten with his morning coffee following hallowe’en. This year, I have been unwell and didn’t make it to the shops so we switched off the hall light as we didn’t want to disappoint any callers. We’ve just had our newish front door severely kicked by a child (lots of the running about), I assume doing Trick or Treat. Too dark to see the culprit but now have a terrified dog. Gone are the days of children reciting a poem or telling a joke in exchange for some goodies.
