Latest was from Asian male saying he was from Postcode Lottery and I’d won. Knew it was scam as although I’m a subscriber, he used my landline number which was last published by BT over 7 yrs ago.
I was in no mood for a scam conversation so swore in German and English and ranted about effing scammers before hiding phone under a cushion and going for a coffee.
Let postcode lottery people know and was told they had lots of reports in the past 2 weeks and Postcode Lottery wouldn’t phone winners anyway. As any winnings go direct to bank account the direct debit is paid from.

Thanks Mallin That's good to know - Postcode Lottery winnings go straight to the same bank a/c as the DD how sensible. ?

Thank you for sharing Mallin. We subscribe to several lotteries between us, Air Ambulance, Alzheimer's U.K., and Postcode Lottery; not huge amounts but every little helps. My OH pays the Postcode lottery from his account and could easily get caught out by a scam phone call. Alzheimer's UK sent me a cheque when I won £10 which was used to make a one off donation to another charity.
It sickens and disgusts me the way scammers target people.

I had what I am almost sure was a scam call yesterday.

I received a call asking for me by name. The caller had just the sort of bright cheerful voice and attitude one used to get when company calls were answered by a receptionist.

She said the call was about Home Efficiency and asked if we had rockwool or glass fibre in our loft. When I said rockwool, she said that the 'British Board of Agrement' had recently announced research results that showed the rockwool insulation was not efficient. That was the point at which I terminated the call.

I used to work in the building services trade and I knew what the Board of Agrement was. It is an organisation originally set up by the government for certifying building materials, met officially approved standards. It does not do research.

I also know enough about insulation to know she was talking nonsense and as a extra check I have done an exhaustive search to see if BBA had issued any edicts on roof insulation. They haven't.

So if anyone rigns you to tell you that your roof insulation is now known not to be efficient and needs replacing. Just put the phone down.
