Sounds about right to me. We paid £1200 I think, 4 years ago. We do have a large detached, and it was the stairs, hallway, landing. Now it would probably be more. Also depends on carpet quality of course. We bought hard wearing recommended for the area.

I’d go for it...sounds really nice.

About right I’d say, we had ours done almost a year ago, living room too and karndean in the kitchen. The whole lot was almost £3,000

About five years ago we paid around £650 for a local firm to measure, supply and fit stair and landing carpet ( hall is wood) and underlay, good quality. Very pleased with quality and workmanship.

Think it was about £25 per sq mt. average quality.

I’ve just chosen laminate to replace my lounge carpet, it also cost £25 per sq m. The price including fitting was just over £1000 - the lounge is not huge! I got three quotes and chose the dearest as I preferred the quality of the laminate and they are a local firm I have used before. The quotes did not vary much, it seemed to be the fitting costs which were different.

There might be a lot of wastage, especially with stairs. There was when we had our stairs carpeted. Still have loads in the loft.

We had a quote for two downstairs rooms plus the stairs, landing and upstairs corridor but decided not to have the stairs and landing etc done because of the wastage as it more than doubled the cost.

A lot will depend on the quality of the carpet but it sounds perfectly reasonable to me. There will be more wastage than with doing a room and it’ll be more time consuming to fit.
Don’t take any notice of the huffing & puffing, it’s what they do. He’ll love it when it’s down, proudly display it to all and sundry as if it was his big idea.

I wouldn't skimp on quality either.

We really need to recarpet our upstairs, about 120 sq m including stairs. All in all we are expecting to pay about 10 times that, including removal and disposal of the existing carpet, fitting and underlay. We haven't shopped around since the pandemic, this was a price we were quoted 2-3 years ago.

From our recent experience I think you would be struggling to get a decent quality carpet for less than £25 per sq. metre.
The advice is to go for a good quality one for particularly the hall and stairs as they get a lot of use.
Some places also try to charge to take the old carpet away but with a bit of strong negotiating, it’s possible to get that dropped.

Ours was around that price, some 10 years ago, although for a four bed house. It still looks brand new so worth the investment, if it’s affordable.

We went with a local independent one for ours, granny rebel and saved money.
We thought a national chain would have been cheaper but it wasn't.

Sago Fri 12-Nov-21 11:46:39

It depends entirely on the carpet quality.
It costs the same to underlay and fit cheap carpet as for a quality product.
Cloud 9 underlay is superb and will make your carpets last longer.

lemongrove Fri 12-Nov-21 11:41:36

Yes, does that include fitting and underlay?

glammanana Fri 12-Nov-21 11:20:00

Can you not get two more quotes it does sound excessive but as said it depends on the quality.
Does that price include fitting or is that paid separately to the fitter ?

loopyloo Fri 12-Nov-21 11:19:14

I would get another quote from a different company including a local independent one. Have to say at today's prices it doesn't sound an awful lot.

Price per square metre and quality of carpet would perhaps help people to reply. I have had wooden floors for some years so no recent experience except with carpeting the stairs for safety which cost a good few hundred £££s so it doesn’t sound OTT for reasonable quality carpet.

Just been quoted £1152 for hall, stairs & landing carpet. House is an average 3 bed semi. Do you think this is a lot? DH huffing and puffing like mad about it smile
