I was really looking forward to seeing this film. I went this afternoon and walked out halfway through, not to my taste at all, I think the music was meant to be atmospheric but it just really grated on my nerves. Others may think differently but just not my cup of tea. It is only the second film I have ever walked out on

Great review Jaffacake2.

The online trailer for House of Gucci is fabulous and the beat of Blondie track used was so thrilling it gave me goosebumps.

As critics have panned the new film “House of Gucci” I am definitely going to see that tomorrow!! They gave rave reviews for “Spencer”….

I am going against general thoughts on this film and say I loved it !! Felt that it captured a feeling of being constantly watched and judged in an environment of strict protocols and the resulting mental decline of Diana. It was not supposed to be taken literally but as it said at the beginning a fable of a true tragedy.
The music and slow pace also felt like the mental state of being trapped in a dreamlike existence.
Loved it !

I will definitely go and see the Gucci film….?

Aha, brill. I might organise a date to the cinema with my girlfriends thank you Josianne

I’m ‘royalled out’ as I’ve just binge watched Series 3 & 4 of The Crown over 3 days. No more for me. Well, until Series 5 ...
Don’t fancy this film. Quite arty with a lot of symbolism I hear.

Josianne Thu 18-Nov-21 19:32:51

In cinemas from 26th November I think it said on the news.

DillytheGardener Thu 18-Nov-21 19:27:27

Josianne is this out at the cinema? For some reason I thought it was television series

Dottynan Thu 18-Nov-21 19:06:09

I found it very depressing. No joy in it at all, just Diana suffering her miserable existence

Zoejory Thu 18-Nov-21 18:52:52

This film should never have been made. Poor Diana and family.

I agree about the Gucci film, Josianne

Josianne Thu 18-Nov-21 18:46:23

The Gucci film with Lady Gaga looks quite good.

Lucca

Why anyone would go to see this film in the first place is beyond me. We’ve had hundreds of programmes about her.

Any need to be quite so rude? I’m sure there are things that interest you that would be of no interest to me whatsoever but I wouldn’t dream of commenting on it!

Don't worry Shinamae, I would have come with you! grin

DillytheGardener Thu 18-Nov-21 17:24:16

Are the rave reviews from American critics rather than English ones?
I love the crown though I found the last season with Margaret thatcher a little silly her hair and make up broke the spell a bit though I have enjoyed Gillian Anderson in other things. I’ve also walked out of film ‘ baise moi’ a french film with a long rape scene with actual penetrative sex. Just awful. Thanks for the heads up I shall be giving Spencer a miss.

I was warned yesterday morning by a friend not to see it, not that I had any intention of doing so; apparently the continuity, among many other things, is really bad.
Yet rave reviews from the critics.

Kristen Stewart has a huge following I would imagine, because of the Twilight series, so maybe they’ll want to see the film. I did like her in Snow White and the Hunter, though: a film that I’ve actually watched several times ( unusual for me).

I suppose by now there are so many adults who don't remember Princess Diana, maybe they want to see what all the fuss was about.

Lucca Thu 18-Nov-21 12:27:27

Did not intend it as rude, I a m just surprised as i said,

That sounds awful....

Shinamae Thu 18-Nov-21 11:07:39

And then it snaps back to show her eating the soup and the pearls intact so obviously that was just an imagining, absolutely ridiculous..

Shinamae Thu 18-Nov-21 11:05:25

I cannot remember the name of the other film but it was to do with a very hedonistic lifestyle in America!! One scene in Spencer shows Diana at a meal with the rest of the family and she has some green soup in front of her, she has a string of pearls on and we see her pulling at the pearls, them dropping into the soup and her eating the pearls and then running down the corridor before throwing up,absolutely dire…

Grannmarie Thu 18-Nov-21 11:02:10

Hi, Shinamae, I'm now curious about the other film you walked out of ?

I walked out of Soldier Blue in the 70s, horrifically violent.

I remember people walking out of Brokeback Mountain .

Don't think I'll bother with Spencer, thanks!

Selma80Harris Thu 18-Nov-21 10:44:29

I may also not see it, as somehow it doesn't impress me!

MayBee70 Sat 13-Nov-21 19:13:25

I’ve always found Kristen Stewart rather wooden as an actress so was surprised at the rave reviews she’s had for this film. It isn’t a film that I’d be tempted to see anyway though because Mark Kermode said it was as good as Jackie which he loved but bored me senseless. I think it might be the same director?
