Llamas - animals not Dalai

I've never been on one myself, but a local farm does these walks and we occasionally meet them whilst we're walking the dog. Everyone including the llamas seem as pleased as punch to be there and as though they're having a wonderful time. It's such an extraordinary thing to see a group of these proud and gentle looking creatures and smiley people wandering along the lane.

They have them with Alpacas near us, my friend did one, she enjoyed it, but quite expensive.

Oh it must be wonderful to be out for a walk and actually see one !! You lucky thing Scones !
Jaxjacky - I’ve had the offer of an experience day as a potential Christmas present which is why I wanted to see if they are worth the money. If your friend enjoyed it, that’s really encouraging ???

I have done a couple, it was lovely, it's really hard to describe why, but we all loved it.

I really really want to do it but have struggled to get anyone to do it with me. DH has now agreed after watching countryfile so we will be doing it soon. Will let you know how it goes. They are such gorgeous creatures.

I can thoroughly recommend walking with llamas. I've been twice to a place near Pateley Bridge - lovely staff, stunning countryside and the llamas are just adorable. It really makes you feel serene and calm to walk with them and, if you're lucky, they nuzzle your neck and breathe gently on your head (might not be to everyone's taste!). They also have alpacas but the walks are mostly with llamas. I haven't checked if they are still there after Covid but, if they are, I would say don't hesitate, go! There's also a place on the shores of Derwent Water, opposite Keswick near a big manor house (sorry, forget the name).

Think I'm kind of scared of the spitting thing I've heard they do. Yep, scardy cat. Think they look gentle, elegant and lovely otherwise.

Yes, we've done this a few times. Very fortunate to have a good friend who owns llamas. Lovely animals. Just a pleasant way to have a stroll with a few unusual walk mates!

My cousin had a llama, well not exactly it was a small version, a Guanaco which is the same size as a Alpaca. They had been given it, not sure where from, he was called Oscar who was a very unhappy Guanaco, he never settled, he hated cows, sheep, goats and especially us.
So they put a ad out for him “to a good home”, quite quickly a phone call from someone who wanted a male to go with his females, so off he went to meet his new girlfriends and has been a happy Oscar ever since!.

I don’t know why it is but they just look so beautiful with those beautiful big eyes. They look so gentle, but if I do go I’ll watch out for the spitting Kim19. I got zapped by a seagull coming out of Iceland this morning and I’m surprised the bird could fly as it appeared to be the size of an elephant judging by its droppings ?

I went on a llama walk a couple of years ago near Penrith. It was fabulous! The llamas were so calm and unfazed by anything. We were told they really only spit and kick at each other, rarely at humans unless they feel threatened.
