Hotel and parking at Gatwick airport

Can anyone suggest a decent hotel and parking at Gatwick? We are flying in the summer to our grandsons Christening and want to stay the night before and leave our car. We haven’t flown for a few years ( husband anxious flyer) so hope to make the journey as stress free as possible. I’m currently suffering with my knee so a shorter walk would be useful although I’m hoping it has recovered by then !

I can advise where not to go!

Trivelles, near Gatwick.

It was truly dreadful, we had to drive miles to find somewhere to eat, all the local pubs either were closed or didn’t do food.

The hotel itself was exhausted, wallpaper peeling off the walls, very dated and no air conditioning.

I wish we had stayed at the Hilton or similar at the airport.

We use the Premier Inn which is only a short walk from the North terminal.
They don't have their own parking but you can book airport parking through the Premier Inn website if you don't want to search for yourself. The more expensive parking is nearby or there are buses from the further car parks.
The trick is to be prepared as I find Airports easy to get lost in.

Honestly, I'd second what Sago has said. We stayed at the Hilton when we lived closer to London and I think I'm right in saying that's the one which literally connects through a walkway into the airport terminal. I know, because I live not that far from Gatwick now, that some of the hotels are not that close to the actual airport, there are a lot of outlying quite rural villages surrounding it and that can mean, apart from the hotel restaurant you might find their locations not conducive to finding somewhere to eat. So I'd go for one of the modern established chains, impersonal perhaps but generally a reasonable standard for a night.

I forgot to mention that some of the hotels offer the parking as part of the package, although there is the long term car park at Gatwick, we've often used that which you can book on line prior to the date. As mentioned by Pittcity Premier Inn is also very nearby, another good alternative.

Wishing you a trouble free trip.

Thanks for the advice. Should probably have said we are going from South terminal. Never flown from Gatwick so unsure how much distance between the terminals etc.
