Some really traumatic stories here. I was in a serious smash when a drugged person drove into the back of me. I knew enough not to move and the ambulance was with me in 5 mins they were from my own station and knew me well, long story short the fire brigade cut my roof off and lifted me out in case my spine was damaged they all kept me laughing throughout as they'd given me morphine, by this time my distraught husband was watching from the side of the road as he worked closely. Luckily I had only cracked ribs and severe bruising.

I was with my DH when his Aneurysm burst and he was blue lighted to first a local hospital then across London it was exhilarating and truly scary all at once, he survived. The crews were amazing.

They was going to admit him then changed their minds
His PCR came back whilst he was waiting outside negative turned out to be bacterial chest infection

Paramedics always very kind.

Two or three times. The worst was when I collapsed in the kitchen making a cup of tea. Came to with my head in the dog's water bowl, to hear husband talking to 999. They came and I was taken to AE , with DH following. I had a scan as I had a deep cut on back of head and stayed in one night. Very alarming for DH and me at the time.

That’s sounds agonist paddyanne. Going off piste for a minute (as you do) - that triggered a memory from years ago when I was still in school and mum had what was called ‘lumbago’ back in the day. She was confined to bed with a board under the mattress and needed help getting up and shuffling very slowly to the bathroom. Dad helped her up and walked backwards mum clinging on. As they made their way tortuously across the landing he whispered in her ear “do you come here often?”. Cue mum crying as laughing was agony.

Many times Urmstrongran, and happily our wonderful NHS staff patched me up each time. A&E are working under such dreadful pressure and they deserve all the respect and thanks that we can give them.

Only once,4 weeks after I had brought my tiny baby home after 11 weeks in special care and on my 13th wedding anniversary.I was just making the bed and something "went" in my back.I couldn't straighten up and my 10 year old went next door for help .My lovely neighbour took control and called my OH and an ambulance ,I was carried out on my knees ,bum in the air ,covered by a blanket .I was mortified .Thankfully the physio got me sorted enough to be home for baby's next feed .It was a disc issue and it has plagued me for the 33 years since

Yes, on January 1st this year. I had Covid.

Yes , twice. The first time after I had a fall and had cut my head that of course, bled copiously. The paramedic that sat in the back with me was so kind when I began to get upset as I saw my son following the ambulance in his van. It was only a month after my father had died and he had been with me when he passed away. The female paramedic was really offhand for some reason and not really helpful when she needed to stay with me when I needed the loo when we got to the A&E!
The second time I called an ambulance I had been feeling unwell the night before , but fell asleep - my son called 111 and they sent an ambulance for me . I got the feeling that I was a bit of a nuisance and was dumped in the waiting area (still in nightie and dressing gown) before taken through to cubicles.
I had a bleeding ulcer and needed a transfusion. One of the nurses on the ward told me that they didn't actually expect me to go home, I was so ill when I was admitted!
Would love to have seen the paramedics that took me in just to tell them that I was actually ill, not timewasting as they had made me feel!

Oopsadaisy1

I was 14, appendicitis.

Same here, except I was 47.

When I broke my shoulder, the paramedics picked me up from the local station platform. I was blue-lighted to the hospital straight to the trauma department of A&E. It was quite exciting. The Entonox made me very talkative so I'm sure the lovely paramedic who was tending me was glad to offload me to the wonderful A&E crew.
The next time, three years ago, when I had fallen (outside Aldi) and gashed my eyebrow. I was helped by kindly fellow customers and the store sent out a trainee manager with a blanket. The ambulance came quite quickly and I wasn't quite so chatty.
The first time, I was six and had pneumonia. In those days the ambulances had bells but I can't remember much more than that.

No, but I have been taken home by Ambulance!

Sago Tue 16-Nov-21 10:36:15

Sadly yes, I had campylobacter that had triggered heart complications.
It was probably less terrifying for me than my husband who was following by car.

glammanana Tue 16-Nov-21 10:35:09

Yes when I tripped on a pavement 6yrs ago and fell on my right shoulder with all my body weight I just could't get up and an ambulance was called they where amazing .

I went to hospital in an ambulance when I had chest pains. It was about 6am and the roads were very quiet but they still put on the siren when going through the village centre, I was a bit embarrassed by the noise so early in the morning!

Namsnanny Tue 16-Nov-21 10:31:19

Goodness! Ladyledtfieldlover do they call you the bionic woman in your housegrin?

ginny Tue 16-Nov-21 10:30:37

When I was 9 , I was rushed in by ambulance to have my appendix removed.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 16-Nov-21 10:28:08

Yes, a few times! The first time was when I had a motorbike accident - broken neck and smashed up arm. Then, when I was expecting my first baby 40 years ago, I had the sickness thing which the Duchess of Cambridge had. My GP called out an ambulance and I was rushed off to hospital. I miscarried my next baby and an ambulance was called by OH as I collapsed. Then a few years later I slipped on wet pavement and the motorbike accident arm was very badly damaged. Another time I slipped on another wet pavement, breaking a bone in my back. Cue another ambulance. The last time was in 2015, when an ambulance was called to my house when my gallbladder was playing up. I had it removed.

Namsnanny Tue 16-Nov-21 10:26:10

Yes several times, but not for myself. A very bad road accident my brother had, but I was passing and my husband with dil pneumonia, who had to sit outside the hospital in the ambulance for 3/4 hour, yelling with pain until they would let him in!
Both awful experiences.

Urmstongran Tue 16-Nov-21 10:20:37

I did years ago. My GP did a house call mid morning (remember them?) and called for an ambulance. I was in agony with what turned out to be a kidney stone. On the way to the hospital the ambulance siren was switched on and we must have by-passed traffic. By that stage I was past caring I was in so much pain I wasn’t even frightened!
