Narrow sleeves on Winter coats.

Is it just me or are sleeves really narrow on Winter coats? I want to be able to wear a jumper or a smart jacket underneath my coat but really struggle to get the coat on over these items. Whether it is a wool coat or a quilted type jacket (with those awful knitted cuffs inside) I find it a real problem. Does anyone have recommendations for something suitable with wider sleeves that would do the job?

I sympathise and agree with you. The winter coat search continues for many of us.
I tried on a duffel coat last week and unusually the sleeves were so wide I looked like Spongebob Squarepants wearing it. I looked as wide as long and I’m not exactly svelte to begin with.
I’m sticking atm to my faithful old trench worn with a thermal vest.
And other clothes of course ? I don’t want to frighten the horses !

I think you might be better with raglan sleeves or dropped shoulders, they are naturally a looser fit.

The oversized coat is very fashionable at the moment too so you could try going up a size or even two.

I have a condition called lipodoema, which affects my upper arms. Coats are the most difficult item of clothing to buy because l think many of them are sized with no regard to the fact that people actually need to wear clothes underneath. In addition, many of them seem to have been designed for men rather than women as most of them seem to be straight up and down in shape, not allowing for a waist and hips.

I have a cape from Joules which will easily go over big jumpers and even jackets if necessary.
Being only 5’2” it is longer on me and is long enough to cover my bum.

I don't find coats are a problem but do find jumpers and other tops are too tight in the upper arm since my arms became very saggy.

I like your cape Maw. House of Bruar have some lovely hooded capes too.

Gilets seem to be the thing ATM but not if you have cold arms.

Love the cape MayBeMaw. I am just 5ft and this could be the answer for me. Will definitely take a look at Joules. Thank you so much.

I always find coats a snug fit, despite trying on the size I buy for clothes ( same shop) the are always tight around the hips and the bust. I usually go up at least one size.

Yes, I find my ancient tweed cape perfect for this.
