I have noticed that Camilla is walking behind Charles is this correct as he isn’t King?

JenniferEccles Wed 17-Nov-21 11:32:56

It’s certainly not always the case that the husband is striding off in a temper MissAdventure
Like I said some men like my husband are fast walkers and he doesn’t always realise I sometimes can’t keep up.

Speaking of striding off does anyone remember Donald Trump walking in front of the Queen when he was here on a State visit?!

Diana and I were/are exactly the same age.

I watched her in amazement, thinking quite a lot of the time, why is she falling for this? How can she be so naïve?

I'm not sure her age had anything to do with it.

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 11:27:47

Moreso than a 35 year old, I would think.

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 11:26:37

Yes and 35 when she gave that interview.

Why is it assumed a 19 year old is always an innocent, naive girl.

Is Greta Thunberg so ?

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 11:21:31

And 19 when she married.

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 10:56:15

Diana was 35 when she gave the Panorama interview

I've always had to run to catch up with my husband! He doesn't do it on purpose, he's just so much taller, and faster than me.
Camilla has been known to walk ahead of Prince Charles, but I think that protocol demands that the Consort walks a couple of paces behind.
Prince Philip always walked behind the Queen.

I think we can safely assume that any arguments between these two will not be played out in public, like those painful moments between Charles and Diana.

I should hope not at their mature ages. Diana was just a teenager, younger than my granddaughter is now.

No Annie you’re right, she often walks alongside him. I think it’s just very formal events where royal protocol is used.

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 10:48:07

Phillip walked behind the Queen, I very much doubt he would have yelled ‘wait for me’

Calistemon Wed 17-Nov-21 10:48:04

He gets off airplanes first as well

Very gentlemanly, at least if she stumbles she has someone to cushion her fall.

She does not always walk behind him, yesterday a film clip was shown of them being greeted by the king and queen of Jordan.
The Queen stood behind her husband and Camilla stood behind Charles

maddyone Wed 17-Nov-21 10:41:38

I’m pleased Camilla is more accepted now. Charles and Camilla often walk side by side, but I believe that in royal circles the one of higher rank is supposed to walk first. Camilla’s rank comes from her husband, and therefore he is of higher rank than she is and will go first. However I think that only applies when being introduced for example, because as I said before, they often walk side by side.

Exactly the right way for equals to be.
My ex used to try the old striding off trick when he had the hump.
Horrible!

BlueSky Wed 17-Nov-21 10:34:13

I like them as a couple, they were obviously meant to be. Good to see Camilla is now a lot more accepted than before.

MissAdventure

I never let a partner walk in front of me.
I find it archaic.

If DH does that because he walks faster I shout 'Oi, me knees are playing up' and he waits so I can grab his arm/hand whatever.

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 10:30:04

I must say he did make me laugh this time.

Oh I see. Yes, I notice this and always think, 'Have they had a row.'

Bluebellwould Wed 17-Nov-21 10:28:04

Camilla has always walked behind Charles. He gets off airplanes first as well. She is being very careful to be a support to Charles instead of competing like Diana ended up doing. I don’t think she wants to be famous/celebrity. She seems to be a very good helpmate to him which is probably why we see him being much more cheerful these days.

Calistemon Wed 17-Nov-21 10:28:04

merlotgran

She looks very stylish.

I’d like to say, Go, Camilla!’ but then some might take it literally.

?

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 10:26:19

I'm serious.
I hate to see women scuttling around after some miserable swine as he strides off in front having a tantrum.

Maybe Charles is just a faster walker!
I often find myself trailing in my husband’s wake when we are out!

It depends who is holding the dog's lead with us. grin
