Has anyone renewed their passport recently? Just wondered how long it took for the new one to get delivered back to you? TIA

Be recently done mine too, online and all sorted within days. Really impressed with the tracking service too.

Received mine in Australia within two months having applied on line and returned my old passport. Cried when I got the new, blue, one. It just brought home the reality of Brexit.

Mine took about 3 weeks. I had a photo taken at a photo shop and had a code. However, when I tried submitting the photo, the passport website said it probably wouldn’t be acceptable due to there being not enough of a contrast between the background (which must be a light colour) and my hair (which is pretty much white now). I ticked the box to say I wanted to submit that photo anyway. A dialogue box appeared asking why I felt it should be accepted. My reply was that I could change neither my hair nor the light background. The photo was accepted straight away! The passport arrived 2 days later.

It's a little while ago now, but, in May we renewed ours online and it took about 10 days.

If you can get to a Passport Office for examplle Liverpool, and you pay a little extra you can get it done the same day,I think I waited four hours and it saved so much time. Not a long to wait when I was leaving my old Passport in, and even less time when collecting the new one. Great service.

My husband waited less than 3 weeks, last month

I renewed mine earlier this year when they were warning it could take weeks. The new one arrived within 7 days!

Applied for new passport online (easier and cheaper) on Thursday 11th November. Received new one today. Can't complain about that. I think it may also depend on where you are told to send your old passport, mine went to Durham. Husbands went to Bootle his has not been despatched yet but has been approved.
Also, check your EHIC card if its out of date you need to apply for a GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card).

Did my passport renewal at the end of October. Still haven't received it. Another member of the family did his a week later. He received his within ten days. So, pot luck.

I renewed mine last year during lockdown. Did the whole thing online and new passport delivered within 10 days; they even sent an email stating when to expect the courier to deliver it, excellent service!

Kim19 Sat 20-Nov-21 11:44:36

Think it varies. I read miserable reports on deliveries therefore decided to build in waiting time. Did the completion on line and received passport within a week.

I'm in Scotland. Was told that our new passport would take about 10 weeks. We received them 5 days later!!

The one my son took is unbelievably unflattering, but I had to use it.

Same here Grandma70s. I wish they’d not accepted the one I took of myself….and I’ll have ten years of seeing that photo….mind you I’ll no doubt look even worse by then, ?

All much easier than my daughter's experience. She, and my 2 GC, hasve dual British/Australian citizenship. Renewing their Aussie passports entailed all of them travelling to London from the NW of England, visiting the Australian Embassy, staying in a hotel overnight, and returning the next day to pick up their new (expensive) passports before returning home. A very expensive renewal indeed!

Renewed mine and DH's at the Post Office at the beginning of the year. Easy and hassle free. Came very quickly. Though it cost a bit more than doing it yourself online it was worth it. Now all we need is the confidence to travel abroad again. Two holidays cancelled this year.

I renewed my passport last month via the Post Office. It arrived within a week.

Just done ours, UK. Find a Photo-me booth which has the digital facility (not all do) and you get the photos but also a digital number which you add into your online application - works extremely well. £8.

glammanana isn`t everything taking longer.. deep sighs.

You can queue outside the passport office if you are desperate to get it. We went with our two sons to America in 1982 and there was a delay in getting passports or renewals so DH went to the nearest passport office which was Peterborough at the time. He had to wait a long time but he came home with all 4 passports.

mumofmadboys Thu 18-Nov-21 13:02:01

Thanks. My DH's passport had expired. We ordered one online on Monday. It was an easier
process than we expected. We took a new photo and it was easy to download. It is automatically cropped and the computer tells you immediately whether it is suitable.
We are going on a (very) mini cruise in January from Liverpool to Southampton and oddly you have to have a valid passport! I have cruised x 2 before but DH never has so it is a taster for him.

Nannan2 Thu 18-Nov-21 12:58:36

Yes we did his online, then i had to post his old one in.

Nannan2 Thu 18-Nov-21 12:56:55

Yes Grandma70s- we had several goes at taking my sons as it was in lockdown & his hair had grown lots- in end we just went with the best of the bunch and they accepted it- he moaned about it but i pointed out at least it was better than his his first ever college ID photo??

felice Thu 18-Nov-21 12:54:09

Renewed mine from Belgium recently, exactly 20 days from posting the old one to the UK.
I was very pleased and after talking to friends here that is about normal.
I did it online with help from a friend (photo) and it was very easy.

Nannan2 Thu 18-Nov-21 12:52:58

I think its quicker if you previously had a passport so its just a renewal- even my sons was within a couple of weeks moving from a child one to an adult one- because he had one since a toddler, then one as a child, so its a lot simpler to renew.I think if you've never had one before it takes a lot longer to verify everything. My sons was one of the first to go back to a 'British' one.Looks very stylish.

Grandma70s Thu 18-Nov-21 12:44:49

I applied to renew mine online on 16th October, then had to send in the old one of course, received the new one a couple of days ago. It was all easy except providing a new photo. The one my son took is unbelievably unflattering, but I had to use it.
