Nothing wrong with mixing up notes and losing your place - could happen to the most excellent of national leader, but this was totally cringeworthy!

It was reminiscent of his totally made-up claim when asked about his hobbies and he garbled something about making a bus from wine boxes. He is such a psued.

He was addressing the CBI.

Peppa Pig

On Newsnight, Finkelstein and Toynbee, who are polar opposites politically, were agreed on the mess Johnson made of his speech, the third contributor to the discussion ( name missed, used to write speeches for Cameron) said that the usual way is for the speech writers to prepare everything, the order, the timing etc., and give it to the speech giver in plastic sleeves in a folder, in order, thus avoiding yesterday's debacle. It seems that Johnson doesn't like to do this.

?
Drinks on the train up there?

Sadgrandma Tue 23-Nov-21 13:26:07

I used to teach speech making and the very first thing I impressed on students was, if you use notes, number the pages and STAPLE them together. Surely Boris's speech writers could have done that for him!

annodomini Tue 23-Nov-21 13:21:18

"I bet it was the result ( the fluffed speech) of wine with lunch, tiredness and the usual Boris way of winging a speech, which he does with varying levels of success"

You've lost the bet lemongrove. The PM concluded his speech with the words:
Thank you very much for your kind attention this morning, thank you.
Goodness knows what he had for breakfast!

Purplepixie Tue 23-Nov-21 13:19:07

He is just a giant clown with the oink oink shoes! What a fool and he is running the country. God help us!

The speech was at 10am!

The man is a buffoon! Trouble is he is likely to get in again.
I will never vote again as they are all inept.

annsixty Tue 23-Nov-21 13:16:03

He obviously took lessons from Donald Trump.

Michael12 Tue 23-Nov-21 13:15:49

I have seen is clothing dress approach , if he was a comedian not sure as to stand up but his style clothing , he has been classed as wearing cloths designed by the late " Benny Hill" especially with his hairstyle never tidy.
Mick
PS If was applying for a job, would he fail to get it after the interview

His "great orator" reputation is yet another phoney part of Johnson. What a bloody embarrassment he is

It was both cringeworthy in the extreme, and he was insulting his audience, who were light years ahead of him in the intelligence and critical thinking game.

I've heard some people say he's been working too much - too many photo ops, etc. - and others have said, well everybody makes mistakes, let's cut him some slack.

We need to remember that this man's inaction s led to the deaths of 10's of 1,000s of people, and Sunak's "Eat Out to Help Out" to help out scheme led to 1,000s more when we had no vaccine.

He is no orator - he's the jokey equivalent of Farage the mob agitator, or the barfly who has an answer for everything. His speeches are always rambling and incoherent - marked by frequent finger wagging, air-punching, or tub thumping gesticulation.

Just imagine if he made a mistake and lost his place and launched a nuclear first strike - along the lines that Priti Patel has suggested she would be prepared to do.

My God, we have to get this menace of the public scene - give him a job he has experience in - like making up stories for the Telegraph.

GoldenAge Tue 23-Nov-21 12:35:54

Mmm - Boris Johnson and Peppa Pig in the same sentence - enough said!

leeds22 Tue 23-Nov-21 12:34:21

How to embarrass a whole nation. Is he having a nervous breakdown?

djgmpg Tue 23-Nov-21 12:32:05

Boris is an embarrassing bafffoon. He is also an oaf illustrated by the recent photo of him with the French President with his feet on a coffee table!

Spec1alk Tue 23-Nov-21 12:31:57

I did wonder if the PM is struggling with long covid. He was certainly struggling yesterday

OurKid1 Tue 23-Nov-21 12:29:51

He's a joke. Except that he's not. He's the flippin' Prime Minister for goodness sake. Help us!

spabbygirl Tue 23-Nov-21 12:26:48

the reason Boris spoke about buses a few months ago Riverwalk was so if you googled 'Boris bus' you got that speech not the bus with 'vote leave £325 million a week for the NHS' which was misleading, to put it politely, because he didn't take into account the money the EU returns to us.
I don't think he's ever been up to the job, which is why he had Dominic Cummings to do it while he just did the talks etc that he could manage but he's been totally out of his depth which is why we've had so many U-turns etc. The sooner we can vote this clown out, and the rest of the tories who've had their fingers in the till, the better. They misled the people to get votes anyway

CvD66 Tue 23-Nov-21 12:21:05

Well he's achieved his aim hasn't he! Got us all talking about his stupid speech while over in the real world, he has got MPs are voting to rob the less well off of their homes to pay for social care, in the High Court they are questioning the PM's right to ignore parliamentary standards over Pritti Patel's bullying, the LGA is reopening their investigation into the PM's former activities to advance his mistress' business, the exposure of the VIP channel by 10 MPs and Peers to award PPE contracts to 40 of their 'mates' who had minimal experience of sourcing PPE against qualified companies with good distribution channels or the ongoing discoveries of Tory MPs focusing their attention on outside interests instead of their constituents. Which dead cat will he drop next!

There is a poster on GN who says regularly ( for almost two years) that Johnson ‘will go fast’ ( meaning ousted quickly).
Well, the way that Conservatives get rid of failing leaders is always fast when it happens, unlike the Labour Party which is bogged down by protocols and can’t do anything quickly.
How I see it, is that Johnson is actually going ‘slowly’ and very much bit by bit.
They won’t get rid of him yet though.

If I was Carrie I'd be trying to persuade him to see a doctor.

Me too

Was this speech before or after a convivial lunch?

Just a thought - he doesn't have undiagnosed diabetes does he? Erratic blood sugar levels can cause confusion if unchecked

He has suddenly put on weight again, is untidy and not always coherent.

I can't stand him but I have to confess my immediate thought was that he was unwell. You are right diabetes can present like that, so can early onset dementia or a UTI. Of course alcohol can do the same.

I actually found the most disturbing bit was the ITV reporter asking if he was OK and his oh so jolly reply about how well it had gone down. It wasn't like his normal being positive, I thought it was a bit chilling. If I was Carrie I'd be trying to persuade him to see a doctor.

I watched it yesterday evening. He appeared to be drunk. What an embarrassment.

Lucca Tue 23-Nov-21 10:06:47

This is a good point ! By the way it’s from The Times, not the Guardian….
