Any Clever Ideas?

My family has decided on doing a secret Santa present this year….I prefer covert Father Christmas but that does rhyme so well! My problem is I have drawn my granddaughter…..still recovering from a brain injury, has autism, and a wannabe goth! Any clever ideas? Budget is £40.

I have a family member who is 16 and has the same “goth” style: my go to’s are fluffy socks (always darker colours) but no glitter threads cos that makes them itchy. Oversized plain hoodies/tshirts so I generally buy from the gents dept in Primark and again I stick to black/grey colour palette. I’ve bought phone covers with sugar skulls on for about £10 from Amazon - just need to find out what kind of phone she has. Wireless headphones are always good too - little earbud ones that can sync up with her phone. Sometimes you can also buy a wee funky cover/skin for the headphones. Soft woolly hat with a pompom (usually black), soft cotton scarf, fingerless gloves. And sweets - I always buy sweets!! Hope some of this was helpful.

Be careful of aromatherapy products for someone with a brain injury.

Could you explain why, please? I don't have anyone with brain injury but am curious now!

Have you tried online goth/alt stores? There's also a place in MCR, Affleck's Palace, where you can find anything and everything for goths. They have a website to browse. Hope that helps

Definitely some funky make-up, appropriate heavy jewellery, and black tights and socks.

Hmmm. Some goth-ish makeup and/or jewelry? Makeup and nails always goes down a storm and it's the most obvious way of expressing her style!

Some really good ideas so thank you so much.

There is no hope for me! Granddaughter is fourteen.

What about some jet jewellery from Whitby? The Goths spiritual home.

One of my Grandsons, more or less on the spectrum., loves my furry throws, which are the softest of soft.
His own bedroom room is now grey with black bed and black bedding, black computer. He has a Lava Lamp. What I have bought him is a soft small grey rug from Dunhelm . It is gorgeously soft. When he stays with me he rolls around on my very expensive white ones. But white was out.
I have also bought him a scooter. All the children of 4 up around here have scooters.

I love the idea of a lava lamp!

I brought my grandaughter who is 13 a Himalayan salt lamp for her birthday and she really loves and it looks lovely and cozy in her room. That age group seem to be into crystals and things like that at the moment. From my own experience with teenage grandchildren I’d steer clear of clothing if they’re not choosing it themselves. I agree with H1954, a piece of jewellery is a nice idea, there are some great goth themed silver necklaces around within that price range, skulls, crosses, Angel wings, gothic style initials etc.

Sounds like my grandaughter apart from the brain injury. She likes anything with skulls on. Doc Martin Boots(you can get other brands not so expensive). Pretty much everything she wears is black. Oh and tartan mini kilts, they are very popular. As somebody said emp is one website and disturbia is another. Good luck

Maybe goth style clothing or jewellery? Google goth clothing and lots of sites are shown.
Here's one I found earlier (I'm the mother of a retired goth!)

I love the Miss Muffet pinafore dress on this site.

I love the idea of a lava lamp, if you know her favourite colour.

With a budget of £40 I would be tempted to get a piece of Jet jewellery and a Boots/Superdrug gift card. That way she has a gift to keep and something to spend on goth makeup

Have a look at Frightlings website, they do excellent gothic style jewellery, soft toys ( but not childish ones) etc

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 25-Nov-21 11:04:23

midgey you don't say her age? Maybe a clockwork? dog she can communicate with?

Snip Thu 25-Nov-21 11:00:32

fledglings.org.uk have fidget balls and suchlike. Available online but staff helpful with ideas if you call. Waterstones sell a Gooey Mesh ball - therapeutic and calming to squeeze! Mood rings that change colour are fun - asos, River Island etc.

Philippa111 Thu 25-Nov-21 10:56:13

You didn't say how old she is but how about some lovely aromatherapy essential oils..Lavender, Lemon, Orange which can be used in the bath etc... could be soothing and relaxing if she has just had an injury. If she's a Goth perhaps everyone else will have gone with that... a bit like people who have cats often get many cat gifts?

Disney store nightmare before Christmas stuff maybe ?

Blondie49 Thu 25-Nov-21 10:48:40

My g/daughter 14/15 wears hoodies nonstop. On Etsy there is a Gothis Streetwear oversized hoodie in range of colours £28 , though says selling fast. Wd give you money left for white/black lipstick/ nail varnish or whatever. Tried to attach pic but wd not let me re size
