Storm Arwen

I'm on the east coast in Northumberland and it's frightening here.

Driving sleety rain, very strong winds with several trees down across main roads and several areas have power cuts. Taxi driver has just announced on Facebook he's having to go home it's so bad. Have just been out to lay the bins down with the lids wedged against the fence - but it wasn't them making the noise, something is still banging on the roof! I'm scared of storms in case the chimney comes in.

By ‘eck that wind’s got up this last hour or so! I’m in south Manchester. Very gusty at times and driving the rain. Looks sleety on the window panes.

I’ve just made it back to Durham 25 miles from DD in Newcastle. Wild, wet and windy - the weather not me! Seriously though it’s sleet, rain and blowing a gale. Trains have been stopped going North beyond Newcastle.

Thanks for your concern! The cat will be ok, the person who looks after him went round earlier, in anticipation of the storm. He might not be v happy if the boiler goes off because of the power cuts but he’s very good at snuggling himself down into his blankets.

Windy in Cheshire though hopefully not quite stormy. Thermometer hasn't moved from 2 degrees all day. The big trees beyond my back garden are thrashing but my bins are still where they should be - fortunately the recycling and garden bins were emptied today. Grandmabatty, I too remember the big storm of January 1968. I was home in Kilmarnock, on leave from Kenya. Woke up in the night to the sound of the hurricane and knew this was something spectacular. Sister's wedding was a week later in glorious January sunshine!
Hoping that my Scottish relatives in Glasgow and Dundee are safe and comfortable. And thinking of the grans in the North.

It's a bit wild here in Newcastle with sleety rain lashing against the windows.
It was a beautiful sunny, cloudless day until about 2pm. Cold - but beautiful.

Wild winds in my area, in the north of Scotland.
Most of the electric cabling is underground, fortunately, after a storm many years ago brought a lot of it down.
I'm glad I don't have to go out anywhere.

We’re away from home, down south atm, but the reports I’m getting from home are wild. Trees down and power out all,over the place. My poor cat is home alone!

I feel really a bit bad now saying we’d better not go up. I’m a right wimp when there’s snow. We’ve allocated a Sunday in December instead. Kind of hope there is snow there tomorrow but hope you all stay safe.

The forecast for tomorrow for Durham on the BBC website has gone from heavy snow earlier this afternoon to 'light snow' this evening. I don't think getting to Stanley will be a problem.

I am in central Scotland and it is getting wild now. Car alarms are being set off.

My son got the train back from Aberdeen and it should have arrived in Stirling before five. That's him just home because of the threat of landslides. He says the wind is wild there. Ive looked out candles just on case and put my phone to charge in case the power goes out. I remember the bad storm of 1968 which caused much damage in Scotland. We hid under the table! Sadly people died in that one.

I am not too far from Stanley Shazza, its windy here but no snow yet. But football has been cancelled tomorrow, I am delighted (I was watching not playing )

Hi we are in East Yorkshire and it’s raining hard. It’s definately a batton down the hatches weekend. So get cosy lol
We were due to travel up to Stanley in County Durham tomorrow for an overnight stay but we aren’t risking the journey with the snow that’s forecast as well up north. Absolutely hate strong winds it sounds so scary through the night. Good luck up there hope it’s not too bad for you.

My part of South Lanarkshire is fine so far. I think the forecast is mainly for the East Coast.
