Glad he found them Gingster. My friend at work always lost hers, for her Secret Santa someone had bought her one of those little table 'nose' glasses holders. She said she'd probably lose that too!

What unusual place did you find mislaid/lost treasure?
(15 Posts)Yesterday my Dh couldn’t find his glasses AGAIN!!!!!!
We hunted high and low and DS and gd’s looked too. He wore his spares to go out.
When we arrived home, I saw something glistening on the outdoor Xmas tree. Yes it was his glasses!
It's my daughter's birthday on Tuesday. In September we were wandering around Stratford upon Avon on holiday, when I saw some lovely earrings and a matching crystal in a jewellers. I knew they were just her sort of thing bought them and for safety I put them in the car glove box. A month ago I could not remember where I had put them and had a quick search round our (very small) house but of course couldn't find them. Asked husband had he seen them and he reminded me what I had done. So I collected them from the car. All well and good? No of course not I couldn't remember where the second place was I had put them and I hadn't mentioned it to husband. Why do we do this, I could easily have written myself a note. Again as there are a finite number of places that things can be hidden from view I spent most of Friday taking everything out of the 3 drawer, 3 cupboard cabinet. I actually was able to tidy up and throw away a lot of things as I did this and did find the weighing gadget for suitcases we had lost. I was just despairing when I opened the cupboard where we store the booze and there were the earrings. Hurrah. They are now on the table with her card.
We lived in a 16th century house in the Yorkshire Dales, things used to go missing all the time, usually keys and small items..
I placed a bracelet in a trinket tray on my desk in a sitting at one evening.
It came to light two years later in a box in a drawer of the same desk, the desk had been in storage and came to our new home needing a sort out.
I was amazed to find it.
I am very grateful that I lost my driving glasses a few months ago. I had been out and was convinced that they had fallen out of my car in the restaurant car park - I had to drive home without them which, as it’s borderline whether I need them, was not a problem. But as it had been two years since my last eye test I decided to book one.
During the test I had an extra 3D scan offered me and again, I’m grateful that I did. After looking at the screen, the optician pointed out that two layers on my lens had fused together which is an indication of having had a TIA or mini stroke! Further tests showed that I had lost the vision in a section of the eye.
She made a referral the our local hospital re the TIA and also to the eye hospital. Within two weeks it was confirmed, I have had a TIA and am now on blood thinners and statins as well as having regular visits to the eye hospital to assess the damage.
Had I not lost my glasses ( subsequently found under my car seat) I would not have gone to the optician and might have had a full blown stroke as my BP was sky high!
I was really upset to lose my wedding and engagement ring. I was convinced I'd asked my daughter to hide them on the top shelf of the very high bookcase, behind some books. For a short time I thought my decorator (who'd have seen them as he was up the ladder) or his mate had stolen them. I was devastated as my husband had only recently died, but I was unable to wear them as my fingers had swollen with arthritis.
About five months later my daughter asked me to get her Ugg boots out of the winter suitcase, which I did. She came running downstairs with my rings - they were in one of the boots. Next time I hide something I'm going to write it in my diary!
I've had a weird week. On Monday I went to look for my slippers, I tend to live barefoot but my feet were cold. They weren't on the shoe rack in the hall, they weren't in the cupboard under the stairs, they weren't in my bedroom. I sat and had a think and searched again - no sign.
Tuesday I'm putting my boots on to go out and there on the hall shoerack are my slippers.
Then I look for my mask, I was sure I put it in my pocket. I like to double check as I'm leaving. Search my pockets, no sign, I'm sure I put it there but no nothing. Fetch another mask. Get to supermarket take my mask out of my pocket and there are two masks.
Today I lost my purse, it had fallen out of my pocket and was under the car seat.
I'm getting a bit twitchy now.
My grand-mothers platinum and diamond ring I'd inherited. We could not afford a washing machine, and used to wear the socks on my hands to wash them.
I looked everywhere and truly panicked- it was not insured either. A few days later OH was putting his socks on in the morning and said 'ouch' - and there it was!!!
I lost an antique ruby ring searched high and low for it but found it months later when I turned a mattress. I'd obviously been wearing it when I put a clean bottom sheet.
Similar cat story. DH, before we were married, bought my mum a new kitten. I was still living at home and was the first one in from work. I immediately went to find the kitten where it had been left, with food, bed and litter tray, in the kitchen.
There was no sign of it anywhere. In the end I crouched down to look under the gas stove (it was nearly 50 years ago, so old-fashioned stove). No kitten under there. But as I stood up I found him. Somehow he'd got himself under the grill - which was below the hob and above the oven, as they often were in those days. We were very pleased to see each other!
I lost my house key and got another one cut. My mother-in-law found it several years later at the bottom of the peg bag. I imagine I had come in from an outing and rushed to rescue the washing from the rain, key still in my hand.
A friend lost a valuable ring whilst gardening. Twenty five years later her gardener found the ring, quite high up on a branch of a tree. The ring must have fallen onto a shoot, close to the ground all those years ago.
lost a diamond earring ,I thought at a friends 40th birthday party .Called the venue and the vaccuumed from end to end and checked through the bags.Walked the road home looking for it ,no luck .A couple of years later we were changing our wall hanging cupboards in the kitchen and there on the top was my earring.I have no idea how it got there as there was just a couple of inched between the top and the ceiling
I lost my wedding ring after a day of gardening. Searched as best we could, DH even emptied the brown recycling bin out and we sifted through it, like Californian gold prospectors of the 19th century.
Four years later we were emptying our wardrobe to paint inside. Removing clothes on hangers, something fell out onto the wooden floor. The ring. Four years ?
I recently adopted an adorable pair of ex feral kittens
Yesterday one went missing. I looked everywhere I could think of. All around the garden and house and was very worried as they are not yet what I call “street wise” .
Later in the day I decided to tidy up and picked up a shopping bag lying on the floor. It seemed heavy and yes you guessed it. Inside was the kitten who must have been asleep in there. I gave him the biggest hug.
What have you lost and found?
