Do you enjoy eating turkey?

I personally am not keen on turkey but like all the trimmings that go with it. Love pigs in blankets, stuffing, vegetables (I really love sprouts). Christmas day is the only time that I ever eat turkey but would prefer a good roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Do you stick with tradition and have turkey because that is what is expected or do you opt for something else that you would prefer to eat? I don't like Christmas pudding either far to rich after Christmas dinner.

I just do not understand why turkey is only for Christmas here in Merrie England... wish I could get thighs, legs etc for one! a whole turkey is too much for me.

Turkey on the table is Christmas ! It comes out of the oven onto the centre of the table and carved a tradition since I was a small child. We have all the other meats anytime of year but Turkey at Christmas is special in our household

I love turkey but would be happy to eat beef or pork. Specially love cold turkey and fried leftover veg with pickles on Boxing Day.

Vegetarian here. Having a lovely meat free roast with chestnut stuffing and all the other trimmings.

DH always has turkey, but being vegan I love a good nut roast. You don't have to stay with tradition just what you like. My daughter has fish as she dislikes meat. My sister has beef. Tradition is what you make it. Before anyone says say thing I'm vegan due to allergies, but cook meat for DH.

Lamb shanks this year as neither of us are keen on turkey.

Yum, I love turkey but probably won't get any this christmas.
So when I went out to lunch with my neighbour last week I deliberately chose turkey at the carvery. With lots of veg, it was great.

I don’t dislike turkey, and will buy turkey steaks, mince or a small boned breast/crown occasionally, but I’ve never cooked a full size turkey at Christmas time. (Although on the years we’ve been to family for Christmas lunch, turkey was on offer - not going anywhere this year). We prefer other meat, such as beef, pork, pheasant and this year we’re having chicken. I find turkey can be on the dry side sometimes.

No, not turkey. None of us are keen on the taste. We have lamb. Not very seasonal, I know but a really good quality leg of lamb is expensive, so that's our Christmas treat.

I am another who has never understood the idea of 'dry' turkey. I cook turkey thoroughly,(I cook all meat thoroughly, I hate parcooked meat.)

I cook the turkey upside down for the first hour or so and then turn it breast side up. Again we use every single bit of the turkey, including stock. A large turkey is reduced to a very small package of bones to go in the food recycling bin.

We like turkey, and use it all up, inc. stock from the carcass. I don’t find it dry, but then I usually rest it for at least 45 minutes, upside down.
The smell of the turkey cooking is part of Christmas Day to me.

One year before she finally moved to a care home (dementia) we went to my mother, and I cooked roast beef, since she’d never been keen on turkey, or chicken, for that matter.
It just wasn’t the same. I do really like roast beef, but it wasn’t Christmassy at all.

Plus I’d ordered a joint from M&S, supposed to serve 6-8, but their idea of servings must be very stingy. I put it in the freezer and bought a bigger one.

We love turkey for xmas but forget pigs in blankets, stuffing and brussels, my idea of hell. Cooked breast down turkey isn't dry, ours certainly isn't and I do love a crispy roast potato or 6 and mountains of vegetables. We eat because we enjoy it and anything else would be a poor substitute.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 20:58:17

I enjoy the stuffing, roasties, and cranberry sauce. smile

HowVeryDareYou Mon 06-Dec-21 20:56:10

I don't care much for turkey, it always seems quite bland. We're going to have beef Rogan Josh this year, made from scratch, with various accompaniments..... and several lagers.

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Dec-21 20:24:06

Is it a ticketed event Dilly? 2 for us please.

Blondiescot Mon 06-Dec-21 19:49:27

grannylyn65 Mon 06-Dec-21 19:35:56

Ooo porn ?

NotAGran55 Mon 06-Dec-21 19:28:10

I’ve never eaten turkey. I’ve not eaten meat since I was 18 and when I was a child we had capon.
I do buy an organic free range bronze one for my meat eating guests and husband though.

LtEve Mon 06-Dec-21 19:22:30

I love turkey, but only since I started cooking it quickly. Approximately 2.5 hours for a large turkey ensures lovely moist meat. I was forced to have beef one year by my in laws (they bought it) and DH nearly had conniptions. It’s been turkey ever since.

eazybee Mon 06-Dec-21 19:18:41

I love turkey but haven't had any for three years. Everyone says turkey meat is dry but it is not if you cook it properly, surrounded by stock and with a butter soaked muslin over the breast.
I tried to buy one to cook for the family at Easter but couldn't find any, apart from one costing £36 at Waitrose, three years ago. As I go to other people's houses for Christmas Day I have lots of lovely things to eat, but no turkey.

Blossoming Mon 06-Dec-21 19:08:53

I’m going round to DillyyheGardener’s for Christmas dinner grin
