Do you enjoy eating turkey?

I personally am not keen on turkey but like all the trimmings that go with it. Love pigs in blankets, stuffing, vegetables (I really love sprouts). Christmas day is the only time that I ever eat turkey but would prefer a good roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Do you stick with tradition and have turkey because that is what is expected or do you opt for something else that you would prefer to eat? I don't like Christmas pudding either far to rich after Christmas dinner.

We always have turkey as DH is a traditionalist. We do all like it but I'd be happy to eat something different.
I too like every thing that goes with it.
I buy DH and I an individual Christmas pud which is just enough

No. Goose or venison.

DH loathes turkey with a vengeance. We may have rare breed pork this year from our local organic butcher. That plus proper bacon would be a real treat as it’s not something we can generally afford.

We also always have turkey. We have done for years. I quite like the breast meat. But like you, it's everything else on offer that appeals to me more.

I'm not too keen on turkey either - neither are my daughter and children. Going to hers for xmas lunch - it will be chicken and. beef, and all the trimmings and Yorkshire pudding.
And we don't like xmas pudding - it will be a choice of trifle and merangue.

I do enjoy the turkey on Christmas Day but like you I probably enjoy all the side dishes even more. I’d be happy with pigs in blankets, stuffing and roasties!

I’ll be cooking roast beef as well as turkey for my non turkey eating grandchildren and my brother. I really enjoy the leftover meat in a sandwich on Boxing Day sitting relaxing after the busyness of Christmas Day.

Yes. I use turkey throughout the year.

We're having duck for Christmas.

I LOVE turkey - and I do not normally eat much meat, certainly no red meat.

And best of all is cold turkey with bubble and squeak - but best to stay downwind of me!!

Jaxjacky Mon 06-Dec-21 17:11:09

Yes, if it’s cooked so it’s not dry, we eat chicken at least three times a week or more. Love all the Christmas accompaniments too, especially bubble and squeak with cold turkey and gammon on Boxing Day.

X posts Lucky pax.

I prefer any alternative to turkey. Chicken, beef, goose, pheasant, lamb. We have Yorkshire puds with whatever kind of meat we're eating because DGS loves them.

We always have beef, I can’t stand the smell of turkey cooking in the oven. No one seems to miss having turkey, but I still do pigs in blankets…….

I love turkey!

Our family is not that keen on turkey so we sometimes have Beef Wellington instead. Served with Dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of veg (no sprouts!). Only problem is there are no leftovers so usually cook a ham on Christmas eve.

I really do not enjoy turkey- and even worse, turkey for days on end! Give me a good rib of beef ...

TillyTrotter Mon 06-Dec-21 17:38:03

I love Turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, parsnips, sprouts, red cabbage, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and good gravy on Christmas Day. I try to avoid it in December at any meals I might go out to as I enjoy it all the more on the 25th.

VioletSky Mon 06-Dec-21 17:38:13

I love turkey! Always save room for a turkey sandwich

Yammy Mon 06-Dec-21 17:42:14

No Goose or duck venison at New Year.

BlueBalou Mon 06-Dec-21 17:46:32

No, unless it’s thigh meat. If I had my way we’d have roast beef or salmon, preferably with salads and a jacket potato.
I also prefer cold meat so a nice selection with chips and coleslaw would be perfect!

I love turkey! Juicy and tasty with cranberry sauce, stuffing, pigs in blankets, sprouts etc. Best meal of the year.

I have never been very keen on poultry: chicken or turkey. However, in recent years because of my concern about animal welfare I have started buying organic chicken, free range and fed better feed and discovered that chicken can actually taste quite nice. I only buy chicken thighs because it is so expensive, but find a chicken thigh each is more that sufficiant for the two of us and I usually casserole it.

This led me to do the same with the turkey I buy and noy buy the best turkey I can. usually a a free-range Bronze turkey, that we can see out in the fields of a local farm - and it is absolutely delicious.

I appreciate that not everyone can afford these turkeys, but otherwise, if it was just DH and I, I would serve pheasant. I have just bought three oven ready pheasant for £6.50 from a local game dealer, and one pheasant easily serves 2, which makes them a very economical meal.

I think I do a pretty good turkey. Moist, tasty etc. I make bread sauce too and my own stuffing. But, this year I am doing a couple of guinea fowl with the same accompaniments. I will also cook a chicken to make Coronation chicken on Boxing Day. I always make a Christmas pudding, which half of us eat. I make ice cream for the non-pudding eaters. Lemon this year and maybe Mars Bar.

I like turkey, especially Boxing Day cold turkey and chips or turkey mayo sandwiches smile

We don’t always have it on Christmas Day and we do eat it at other times of the year.

DillytheGardener Mon 06-Dec-21 18:06:25

We have a large combined family gathering (covid excluded). If Christmas isn’t cancelled again this year, we shall have, turkey, porn and beef. Roasties are my favourite (miss my elders son’s roasties, they were very crispy) and another second for pigs and blankets
