Do you enjoy eating turkey?

I personally am not keen on turkey but like all the trimmings that go with it. Love pigs in blankets, stuffing, vegetables (I really love sprouts). Christmas day is the only time that I ever eat turkey but would prefer a good roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Do you stick with tradition and have turkey because that is what is expected or do you opt for something else that you would prefer to eat? I don't like Christmas pudding either far to rich after Christmas dinner.

I love Turkey with all the trimmings.

I like leg meat not breast of turkey. Like Judy I love all the trimmings which go with it. Lashings of gravy and sprouts.

Only turkey breast so I only buy the crown. There's something about the darker meat that doesn't appeal. I would sooner have a good beef joint to be honest but 'im indoors likes his turkey.

Ooh yes. Turkey and stuffing sandwiches with crisp lettuce and mayonnaise. ???

Grannynannywanny oh for goodness sake! That doesn’t sound like a wholesome family meal ?
I really hope we get an edit button one day, my dyslexic brain would be so thankful.

When I was a child my maternal grandparents posted us a fresh turkey from their small farm in rural Ireland every Christmas. My Mum would be watching out excitedly for it to arrive during Christmas week. Wrapped up in brown paper and string with red sealing wax on the knots. We didn’t have a fridge and the local butcher stored it in his chill room for a couple of days.

I remember one year it arrived with the leg poking out through the brown paper. Amazingly we were never poisoned!

My favourite way of eating turkey is cold in a sandwich, perhaps with a bit of stuffing, or cranberry sauce or perhaps my homemade piccalilli.

When I was young, I never heard of anyone having turkey at Christmas. It would be duck or goose or hen.

I did like the taste of turkey, when I had it, but have now been vegetarian for many years so only have fake turkey, if any.

We have turkey and enjoy it. We did have goose one year but it was a bit disappointing and I do like a turkey sandwich after the big day. We often have chicken so wouldn’t feel that special for the big day. Enjoy your Christmas lunch, whatever you choose!

I like turkey and eat it during the year nowadays as it is widely available in turkey steaks and mince. It's more healthy than most other meats as well.

Vegetarian here so Nut or Quorn Roast with veg and Yorkshire. Bootiful!

If Christmas isn’t cancelled again this year, we shall have, turkey, porn and beef

Too much information ?

Just like eating. Turkey will do nicely.

grannypiper Mon 06-Dec-21 18:06:48

I don't mind what the roast is as long as there is a mountain of Yorkshires on the table.

DillytheGardener Mon 06-Dec-21 18:06:25

We have a large combined family gathering (covid excluded). If Christmas isn’t cancelled again this year, we shall have, turkey, porn and beef. Roasties are my favourite (miss my elders son’s roasties, they were very crispy) and another second for pigs and blankets

I like turkey, especially Boxing Day cold turkey and chips or turkey mayo sandwiches smile

We don’t always have it on Christmas Day and we do eat it at other times of the year.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 06-Dec-21 17:55:22

I think I do a pretty good turkey. Moist, tasty etc. I make bread sauce too and my own stuffing. But, this year I am doing a couple of guinea fowl with the same accompaniments. I will also cook a chicken to make Coronation chicken on Boxing Day. I always make a Christmas pudding, which half of us eat. I make ice cream for the non-pudding eaters. Lemon this year and maybe Mars Bar.

I have never been very keen on poultry: chicken or turkey. However, in recent years because of my concern about animal welfare I have started buying organic chicken, free range and fed better feed and discovered that chicken can actually taste quite nice. I only buy chicken thighs because it is so expensive, but find a chicken thigh each is more that sufficiant for the two of us and I usually casserole it.

This led me to do the same with the turkey I buy and noy buy the best turkey I can. usually a a free-range Bronze turkey, that we can see out in the fields of a local farm - and it is absolutely delicious.

I appreciate that not everyone can afford these turkeys, but otherwise, if it was just DH and I, I would serve pheasant. I have just bought three oven ready pheasant for £6.50 from a local game dealer, and one pheasant easily serves 2, which makes them a very economical meal.

I love turkey! Juicy and tasty with cranberry sauce, stuffing, pigs in blankets, sprouts etc. Best meal of the year.

BlueBalou Mon 06-Dec-21 17:46:32

No, unless it’s thigh meat. If I had my way we’d have roast beef or salmon, preferably with salads and a jacket potato.
I also prefer cold meat so a nice selection with chips and coleslaw would be perfect!

Yammy Mon 06-Dec-21 17:42:14

No Goose or duck venison at New Year.

VioletSky Mon 06-Dec-21 17:38:13

I love turkey! Always save room for a turkey sandwich

TillyTrotter Mon 06-Dec-21 17:38:03

I love Turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, parsnips, sprouts, red cabbage, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and good gravy on Christmas Day. I try to avoid it in December at any meals I might go out to as I enjoy it all the more on the 25th.

Kali2 Mon 06-Dec-21 17:30:24

I really do not enjoy turkey- and even worse, turkey for days on end! Give me a good rib of beef ...

Farmor15 Mon 06-Dec-21 17:30:15

Our family is not that keen on turkey so we sometimes have Beef Wellington instead. Served with Dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of veg (no sprouts!). Only problem is there are no leftovers so usually cook a ham on Christmas eve.
