In light of Omicron, how are you doing Christmas this year?

We are all testing ourselves and if we are clear then there will be 8 of us. If not DH and I will be delivering Christmas dinner to DDs house! And then eating on our own.

We are spreading out the visiting. DS Boxing Day either here or at his. And sister New Years Eve for dinner and champagne etc.

What we are avoiding is enclosed crowded spaces. So no restaurants etc☹️

Tbh we are ignoring Johnson as he is so untrustworthy and deciding how to behave ourselves.

No one in the family has enough space for everybody now the grandchildren also have families some will be abroad and I’ll spend the day with eldest GS and family along with my daughter and Boxing Day with the other daughter. We’re all being careful as so far we’ve all avoided COVID but will see each other over the week at different times.

We had a family get together in a London restaurant last week, 16 of us.

We are seeing family on various days, I am hosting approximately 20 of us for dinner between Christmas and New Year.

☹️ we always have a big family do at our “local” hotel, prior to the big day - South Lodge. But this will be the second year we have decided not to risk it as we have a couple of high risk members.

Just looked at Zoe and the estimated cases are as high as the worst level last year. I think that care is needed by us all as hospitalisation might not be so bad, but I assume long covid is still a risk.

I also assume this is before omicron has become dominant.

We are going to America on 14th December. This was arranged before omicron appeared & I couldn’t bear to disappoint DGC who I know are longing to see us as much as we are longing to see them. Not to mention DS and DiL. It’s been over 2 years.
They are all fully vaccinated (even DGC) as are we, and we just have to avoid catching the virus between now & then.

We are spending Christmas with son, daughter-in-law, two little ones and dil’s mum.
Daughter-in-law having her final chemo on 14th before having mastectomy after Christmas.
She wants to do this so we’ll all muck in.
We’ll both isolate for a week before and have tests. Important to keep her safe.

I am also immune compromised so it will be a quiet Christmas, no intention of meeting up with most of the family as two of them have not been jabbed. We will have to drive the usual 2 hours to take a Christmas Day meal and a prepared tea for both days. I have been tripled jabbed and will be having a 4th before Christmas, my daughter has also been jabbed so we should be ok, but we will be wearing masks.

We have very much decided to do our own risk assessment and proceed as normal, which means 10 of us together. The spanner in the works is that the schools don't break up until December 17th, (half the family are in education : children and adults), which gives a very short window between then and Christmas if anyone has to isolate. Fingers crossed.

The risk of meeting is too great, DH and I are staying home alone. Our daughters are staying in their homes as well.

Jane just a week to go to lie low - I bet you can't wait! I recently got together with DS2 after nearly two years, and he only lives in Switzerland - how life has changed in these Covid times.

Laura sending very good wishes to your DDIL - puts our Xmas lunch problems in perspective doesn't it.

6 of us will be around our dining table on Christmas Day. All adults and vaccinated. Won’t be complacent though and will do Lateral Flow Tests the day before Christmas Eve.
We weren’t together last year and sincerely hope we will be this Christmas Day, but if illness strikes, God forbid, we will postpone plans. (That goes for Flu or any virus including Covid).

I had hoped to get to DD2 in Sydney but obviously that isn’t going to happen so will be with DD3 & family in Devon. The children have both tested positive for Covid this week. Fingers xd the parents, who had Covid in January, remain clear. If not, I’ll be with DD1 & family again. It’s just a matter of playing it by ear and being sensible and all doing LF tests before meeting.

Being cautious, definitely not going to any large gatherings. Reluctantly we will not attend the carol concert at our church as we know there will be lots of people there and we would not feel comfortable in that environment.

As normal…. which is small anyway Doing the Christmas Day swim, raising funds for the RNLI , then lunch with my eldest daughter and two grandkids

Omicron is here to stay so my life will be normal which isn’t terrible biggggg anyway all is fine, all is good

We will have 10 for lunch. All carrying on as normal.

Only 4 of us on Christmas day as my daughter is working.
One of my son's and myself tested positive on Saturday. Both have awful colds. I started off with a headache on Friday and felt really unwell, real bad headache on Saturday.
Son lost all taste and smell on Friday and the same with me on Sunday.
We reported the results online and waiting for cpr test to arrive.
A bit off topic I know but I would advice testing before mixing with people.
We're just hoping we will be able to taste our Christmas dinner.
Turkey ordered. I love it, and a turkey and stuffing sandwich.
