Lewis Hamilton and his Mum

Lovely to see Lewis Hamilton knighted, he is a young man who has achieved so much. Great to see he took his mum to the ceremony I’m sure she was super proud. She’s dressed to head to toe in Chanel, I like the outfit apart from the frilly blouse, but maybe that’s just me. Anyone else agree?

lemsip I have admitted that I have same problem and admitted I have made the same mistake, I would have thought that my comments were more in sympathy than anything.

Having a short neck, that inevitable gets shorter as you age is a reall problem. no dangly earrings, long hair looks dreadful, it makes you look triangle shaped.

Josianne you are write about Coco Chanel looking good in a pie crust frill but her neck is longer and her whole head rises above it and rests on it, mainly because she has a longer neck. I have no objection to that kind of neck in principle.

I think everyone is blowing this outof proportion. Several people said they liked what this lady was wearing. I merely commented that I didn't and thought the neck was unflattering. it is not a crime to not agree on something like this.

I’m not a fan of a ruff, but they must hide a multitude of jowl and neck related sins!

Josianne Fri 17-Dec-21 08:39:02

As we seem to have said everything praiseworthy about Lewis (who I admire) and his mum, the conversation might be permitted to move to looking at the attire.

I saw this photo of Chanel herself in a ruffle neck blouse and I think she wears it beautifully.

It's a lovely photo of a mother and son!

don't pick holes in someones dress unless you provide a photo of self at some occasion is my advice.

Thank you Monika!
I thought that he was called Chad, and then I carried on reading and Kilroy was the US version and Chad the UK one.

M0nica Fri 17-Dec-21 08:26:07

He was that drawing of a little man peeping over a wall, with the tag 'Kilroy was here //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilroy_was_here.

Essentially, all you could see was the top half of his face and this was the effect of that fussy necked blouse on this lady.

As I said, I too have a short neck and made the same mistake with a big cowl-necked sweater.

FannyCornforth Fri 17-Dec-21 08:15:51

M0nica who is Kilroy?

M0nica Fri 17-Dec-21 08:06:29

Persnoally I thought the outfit was unflattering. Short necks and lots of frills and furbelows round the neck make people look heavier than they are and reminds people of Kilroy

I speak as someone with a short neck who has learnt her lesson.

Why wouldn’t he take his mum? He’s not got a wife has he, so Mum would be an obvious choice I would have thought.

His mum looks fine, no need for any comment about her outfit. Not a fan of the honours system, I'd prefer it to only be about individuals who have impacted/improved others' lives. While it is used to honour those well recompensed for doing what they enjoy/love then Lewis Hamilton is as deserving as anyone. Personally I'd rather see a crossing lady who's done the job for 20 years made a Dame but I'll not hold my breath........

They both look very proud and rightly so. My grandsons will be thrilled. Not being a fashionista I can accept whatever outfit she chooses to wear without receiving criticism of any kind from me. She looks smart and tidy. If she had turned up in a dress slit all the way up the side and her side boob hanging out then I might have made an unfavourable comment! ?

Ro60 Thu 16-Dec-21 23:24:57

Lovely pic. Outfit seems fine to me in fact she's done him proud.

I think starting a thread saying here's a photo, I didn't like X part of the outfit, what do you all think (in other words let's all pitch on with our comments) about someone who is being photographed not because they're a celebrity but because they're a proud mum who has done their best to dress appropriately for their child's big occasion is a bit childish and unpleasant.

And I think you have totally overreacted.

NotTooOld Thu 16-Dec-21 20:55:20

How lovely that he took his mum. I think they both look fantastic. Well done, Lewis.

GrandmaKT Thu 16-Dec-21 20:53:41

A very proud mum (and rightly so), but my god, she must have nerves of steel! I've often thought when watching LH pushing himself further and faster how I would hate to be his mum and wouldn't be able to watch the races. My heart would be in my mouth!
I think she deserves a medal too!

I quite like the outfit - I used to have blouse which was very similar. I'm pleased to see that Lewis' trousers are not ridiculously long, trailing in the mud, as seems to be the fashion these days.

^As for John Cleese, I've seen him on TV in Australia and all he does is slag off Britain.^

OK.

What about Stephen Hawking then? Surely you can't have a bad word to say about Stephen Hawking. wink

Sorry but this post is about the lovely photo of LH and his mother, I really don't want to get involved in a discussion about the honours system.

Well said Chardy.
He's always polite and well mannered, whenever he wins the first thing he does is thank his team, he deserves his honour for his achievements.

Proud, mum who looked lovely.
Also Craig David received a "gong" he too took his mum.
Well done boys in taking your mothers. I would be super proud too.

BlueSky Thu 16-Dec-21 12:41:48

I just like the proud mum photo, not concerned about what they wear. I’m sure she wouldn’t approve of my outfits!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-Dec-21 12:37:37

He can’t resist a bit of jewellery.

Very surprised that a young man who is so vocal about BLM issues was happy to accept an EMPIRE medal....maybe nobody told him the Empires role in slavery etc .I would have much more respect for him if he'd told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine....principles? not when money or titles are involved .Gone down in my estimation .

Interesting point paddyann54,but personally I take the opposite view. By accepting a knighthood he is a success role model for black kids (F1 was a very white world when he started), and ordinary kids (F1 is a very affluent world). He is exceedingly well-mannered, appreciative and charming, so probably a role model to us all.
Btw I think he pays tax in 20 countries and one of the top 5000 tax payers in UK

I don't follow F1 and I don't know much about Lewis Hamilton.

But like paddyann54 I always respect people more if they say no to the Honours List. I'm with John Cleese on this smile
