Sad to see Christmas cards going out of fashion

Sent out 3 dozen this year. All 2nd class stamps.
Just counted - we have 15 up and 5 more delivery days. Not that I’m counting per se, just illustrating that for us and the people wot we know, it’s still a nice tradition.

I sent a few more than usual this year and received a few more but from different people. I like them.

I have noticed a few people I know use the environmental excuse not to send cards. I know they do not practise what they preach in reality they are actually very wasteful.

I only send a few, but my friends are mostly far flung so it isn't practical because postage costs would be prohibitive. DGS did deliver a card to everyone in our small street this week though. He loved doing it.

If I didn't have him, I would make very little effort about Christmas.

We’ve still had quite a lot, and I’ve sent the same.

I hadn’t thought dd (very busy working plus 3 small dcs) usually sent any at all, but the other day we had a lovely Christmassy photo card of the Gdcs, and presumably she ordered quite a few.

The two couples I know best who’ve stopped sending them, say they’re donating to charity instead. And I’m quite sure they are, but I can’t think it’s the cost of postage - both couples are well off (I do know this.). To be frank I think they just can’t be bothered any more - admittedly writing cards can feel like a chore - but it might be nice if they just admitted it.

E-cards are all very well - Jacque Lawson does some lovely ones - but I still prefer the ones the postman brings.

If anyone cites environmental reasons for no longer sending them, I will believe them, unless I know that their environmental concerns are very selective - i.e they don’t apply to anything they actually want to do.

I do send them I noticed a couple of years ago some people sending emails instead. Its just once a year if they can’t be bothered writing and posting cards then they are off my list.

I enjoy choosing special family cards and charity cards. It’s a nod to old colleagues friends or neighbours you don’t see an old tradition I like to keep up. After Christmas I use cards we have received to make gift tags for the following year.

I have sent cards this year, probably with more thought than previous years. My DM loved to get post and fretted if she didn’t have cards from the usual people. As we have been unable to see so many friends and relatives for a couple of years I thought a card dropping onto the mat would be nice to let them know they haven’t been forgotten. Much nicer than a text or email.

Oh, I don't know smile I've posted 24 this week and I myself am getting a steady stream of them. Work friends from throughout our lives and a former next-door neighbour from some 70 odd years ago who's still in the same house ! Old school friends.

Even a daughter from my IOM cousin, who died, sends me cards, so as far as I'm concerned I'll keep sending until such times that I can't.
Family abroad of course.

I think that Christmas itself seems to be dying out sad

Still popular in this house, but it is the way we keep up with very old friends. I don’t see today’s younger people carrying on as they are in touch on social media.( so am I with more recent friends).

I know it's inevitable with all the new ways of communicating nowadays. And of course postage has become very expensive.

But sad to see another old tradition slowly dying. My parents got loads, their grandchildren don't really send any sad
