All my M&S goodies ( licks lips )

Beef casserole with Dauphinois potatoes and veg followed probably by trifle.

Being a Friday, we usually have fish and chips (only day I don't cook) but this year it might be a lasagne or something from the freezer or I will make sausage rolls and have them warm.

Party food ?

We always have the gammon on Christmas eve, having it tomorrow as going to DD on Christmas eve.

This year we’re having a seafood paella. Perhaps fruit for dessert if still feeling hungry.

We are out for a pub lunch and then on to see Christmas Lights at a nearby NT property. So, supper will be a simple
smoked salmon open sandwich with (maybe) a bit of salad, some cheese and fruit and a glass or two of wine. Perfect.

I think for about 30 years we have had fish pie on Christmas Eve, it was my Dads favourite and he always looked forward to it. Since my SiL joined family he insists we have it aswell.
Followed this year by chocolate log.

No idea ?

MissAdventure

I like the word "afters".
I'm sure I always use it, too.
I may slip up with dessert occasionally, because I sometimes find a bit of a language barrier between me and my boy.
He doesn't know what I'm talking about half the time (so he says)

I just use the word ‘pudding’ and it covers everything to do with a sweet course.

Maw love the sound of your meal. Absolutely Perfect. I will be there at 7....[smile)

Shropshirelass Thu 23-Dec-21 15:11:07

A nice light fish meal, not sure which yet.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 15:56:50

Is there any significant reason for a lot eating fish?
Or is it just because it's a bit of a treat, or easy to cook?

Josieann Thu 23-Dec-21 16:01:53

Isn't it Roman Catholics who don't eat meat on the day before a feast day? In France for example they eat oysters on Christmas Eve, rarely ever meat.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:04:10

I've no idea.
Which says much for my R.E O'level. smile

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:06:36

Perhaps it's traditionally a lighter meal, in order to stuff your face for the next few.

Like Good Friday is fish day, before the resurrection?

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:11:03

Yes, it just struck me that fish seems to be such a popular choice.
I should google but I'm too idle.

Josieann Thu 23-Dec-21 16:24:47

Well it's certainly not cheaper than meat alternatives these days!

Kali2 Thu 23-Dec-21 16:27:15

I am not doing any cooking at all for the whole of Christmas and New Year- so I shall savour all that is given to me smile

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:29:27

No it's not cheap now, but I assume it may have been years ago?
You know how simple little things get added to as the years go by.

Maggiemaybe Thu 23-Dec-21 17:14:03

We always had fish on Friday when I was growing up. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but we tend to do the same. I think it had something to do with the church, abstaining from red meat being a form of fasting?

winterwhite Thu 23-Dec-21 19:28:46

Fish pie for lunch. Tea-time tea and cut Christmas cake. Anyone hungry later forages for themselves.

Blondiescot Thu 23-Dec-21 19:42:52

Well, it's just OH and I, so we'll be having an antipasti platter along with a baking camembert and some lovely fresh crusty bread. Nice and simple and no effort involved.
