Like ShazzaKanazza we have our traditional Christmas meal on Christmas Eve. This began after 2012 when we had a power cut in the middle of cooking Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day! We lived in a small village without any piped Gas Supply (as we do now). Fairly remote villages often experience this problem, especially at times of high demand. Since this outage lasted for several hours, and also meant that we had no heating either, we decided to cook our Christmas Meal on Christmas Eve, thereafter.
Today we will have Party Food, which will include cooked snacks (mostly because I don't like cold food at any time) and salad.

I had the worst Roast Gammon ever last night cooked to the time-honoured recipe. All down to suppliers no more click and collect from them but the rest of the food made up for it.
A Merry Christmas to you Mrs C. Award winning butchers in the north better stick to your Cumberland sausages.sad

I had half a pizza and a satsuma last night. My husband had the same, plus two large slices of cake!

I should be eating roast pork, crackling etc at our son’s but he has COVID, so we just had salad, jacket spud and what my son used to call flat meat (corned beef).

I make mince pies while I listen to Nine Lessons and Carols on Radio 4, and make a quiche for supper with the leftover pastry.

Just the 2 of us. We had a lovely black pepper crusted smoked mackeral salad with potato salad, hard boiled egg and croutons. Delicious, not too heavy. Will have a mince pie and a glass if port a little later on. Tomorrow breakfasting on smoked salmon with avocado on toast. The full works traditional dinner about 4pm. then buffet on Boxing day when son with 2 DGC come round in the afternoon

Saetana Fri 24-Dec-21 18:42:10

We always have a cold buffet and pick at it throughout the evening - a family tradition of mine that I stick with even though there is only me and my husband.

30 odd years ago I cooked a casserole when my parents came to stay for Christmas. It was a rather delicious venison recipe, my then 4 year old daughter asked what it was - and then it dawned on me - Oh No!! Reindeer stew on Christmas Eve! - so ever since, we have had reindeer stew for Christmas Eve, my daughter doesn't think this is very funny ??

I’m late but we are having macaroni cheese tonight when DH returns home.

Helenlouise3 Fri 24-Dec-21 17:43:36

Whatever I have in that's easy, as the oven is always full of turkey. Today it was just chicken nuggets, roasties and baked beans which we had at lunchtime. the oven was then warm for the turkey. This evening we'll have turkey and stuffing rolls with crisps.

Fish and chips cooked by my husband! Living near the coast we get wonderful fresh fish.

glammagran Fri 24-Dec-21 17:34:55

Another one here having home made pizza and a bottle of Italian red. I wish I could manage starters and puds. Sometimes I can have one or the other but never both. I doubt I’ll eat much Christmas dinner as though I absolutely LOVE it a morning in the kitchen somehow kills my appetite. Happens every year. I used to eat twice as much in my 20’s and not put on any weight. These days as I do eat less weight seems fairly steady. A few pounds off wouldn’t go amiss though.

I

Some of the things people are having tonight sound lovely.

Kryptonite Fri 24-Dec-21 17:16:55

Fudgemonkey Fri 24-Dec-21 17:04:53

ALANaV Fri 24-Dec-21 16:58:18

Being on my own I took myself off to have scampi chips and salad ...and a small strwaberry trifle !!! BUT the place I go to was not doing food today (its a club)......M & S only had trifles for FOUR ......no other place to get what I planned, so now I have scampi to cook at home ..............bah humbug !

GrammarGrandma Fri 24-Dec-21 16:24:16

When we were "doing" Christmas it was always posh fish pie (with prawns) and a veggie equivalent. Home made mince pies for pudding and carols round the piano. Today, with just the two of us I'll make Melanzane alla Parmigiana, which will have with curly kale. Pudding will be Bonne Maman creme caramels.

chelseababy Fri 24-Dec-21 16:19:19

Hame, egg and chips. Maybe some red cabbage with it.

GrauntyHelen Fri 24-Dec-21 15:50:32

Usually shepherds pie but this year roastbeef

Elusivebutterfly Fri 24-Dec-21 15:28:11

I used to make a curry with lots of different dishes but a few years decided that was too much effort. I usually cook the gammon with veg and there would be enough left for part of the cold spread on Boxing Day.
