What evening meal do you have for Christmas eve.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 15:56:50

Is there any significant reason for a lot eating fish?
Or is it just because it's a bit of a treat, or easy to cook?

A nice light fish meal, not sure which yet.

Maw love the sound of your meal. Absolutely Perfect. I will be there at 7....[smile)

MissAdventure

I like the word "afters".
I'm sure I always use it, too.
I may slip up with dessert occasionally, because I sometimes find a bit of a language barrier between me and my boy.
He doesn't know what I'm talking about half the time (so he says)

I just use the word ‘pudding’ and it covers everything to do with a sweet course.

No idea ?

I think for about 30 years we have had fish pie on Christmas Eve, it was my Dads favourite and he always looked forward to it. Since my SiL joined family he insists we have it aswell.
Followed this year by chocolate log.

We are out for a pub lunch and then on to see Christmas Lights at a nearby NT property. So, supper will be a simple
smoked salmon open sandwich with (maybe) a bit of salad, some cheese and fruit and a glass or two of wine. Perfect.

This year we’re having a seafood paella. Perhaps fruit for dessert if still feeling hungry.

We always have the gammon on Christmas eve, having it tomorrow as going to DD on Christmas eve.

VioletSky Thu 23-Dec-21 13:09:00

Party food ?

jaylucy Thu 23-Dec-21 12:55:45

Being a Friday, we usually have fish and chips (only day I don't cook) but this year it might be a lasagne or something from the freezer or I will make sausage rolls and have them warm.

Rosalyn69 Thu 23-Dec-21 12:53:01

Beef casserole with Dauphinois potatoes and veg followed probably by trifle.

EllanVannin Thu 23-Dec-21 12:50:53

We were going to have steak and chips tomorrow evening but have just had a phone call to say that DD, DSIL and two DGDs are coming to see us so it's going to be a pub lunch and then we'll have a scrambled egg on toast supper later. What joy, we haven't seen them for months so it will be just wonderful!

Grandmadinosaur Thu 23-Dec-21 11:16:38

We say “afters” all the time!

Mollygo Thu 23-Dec-21 11:16:19

Salmon with teriyaki glaze with noodles and tenderstem broccoli, although at a restaurant recently, we were served shredded sprouts, which were really nice (as long as you like sprouts), so I might try that.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 11:07:09

Oh yes.
You have to say "afters" once a year.
It's the law. smile

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Dec-21 11:06:37

I have the gammon cooking in the oven at the moment (in cider, bay leaves and cloves) we will have that on Christmas Eve with creamy mash, cabbage and mustard sauce.

BigBertha1 Thu 23-Dec-21 11:05:57

OOh err - I haven't said 'afters' for years - Christmas is a nostalgic.

BigBertha1 Thu 23-Dec-21 11:05:12

We usually have fish - seafood if I can get any or salmon en crute. This year we are having a buffet family lunch so it will be leftovers from that. I have just taken a large joint of beef out of the oven, there will be a cheese board and a deli slate. I'll make a winter salad to go with that (Jamie's) I have made a traditional trifle for my sister and a fruit tart for afters.

Kate1949 Thu 23-Dec-21 10:30:21

None. We usually go out for lunch pre Covid. We have a buffet in the evening.

JaneJudge Thu 23-Dec-21 10:05:49

we have ham in cola and cheese board with nice bread
