Perfumes you've worn down the years

I recognise many of the perfumes mentioned, but my favourite has been Chanel madmosell sorry can’t spell it. For many years I’m constantly getting kind remarks from folk who come into contact with me saying what a lovely scent. I buy or my dh buys the box with the 3handbag atomisers in the box so easy to carry one around but getting to be so expensive but I’m worth it as they say.

I don’t think anyone has yet mentioned my favourite, Givenchy’s original L’Interdit, created in 1954 for Audrey Hepburn. It was discontinued some years later, and in 2018 they called a new, quite different scent by the same name. I have a little left in the bottom of a bottle and a quick sniff takes me right back to my late teenage years and early twenties. Nowadays, on the rare occasions I use scent, it’s Caleche by Hermes, a similar kind of fragrance.

Ooh, and I absolutely adored late DH's aftershave - he only ever wore Chanel Pour Monsieur, and it is a lovely lemony scent. He had the shower gel, and soap too. Getting difficult to find now, but I still have some of his left and occasionally spray it on my pillow. Happy bittersweet memories....

In the fifties wore Primitive and Muegate ( can’t remember how to spell it ). Then Je Reviens and later Chanel No 5 which I still love but don’t buy unless gifted. My problem is I had to stop wearing perfume in the Summer as the gnats ( which I have an allergic reaction to) love it and make a meal of me.

In my early 20s, Aqua Manda, Revlon Charlie and Intimate, a Lancome one I can't remember the name of, Rive Gauche, then DH bought me Chanel, and I've never really tried or worn anything else since.

Chanel ones have included No 5, Allure, Coco Noir, Coco Mademoiselle, Chance and now my favourite, Gabrielle.

Ma Griffe did indeed come in a green and white striped box. Shalimar is fabulous. My DH calls it " essence of marzipan" but I don't let that stop me loving it !

Wow - what a lovely trip down Memory Lane. I remember most of those perfumes and tried several of the (cheaper!) ones mentioned. Pretty Peach by Avon - just gorgeous. Had some for Christmas when I was about 10 - loved it. I was fascinated by the little peach on the top of the bottle. Still am! I wore Cachet perfume on my wedding day in the 1970’s. I think it was advertised as smelling slightly different on everyone. Quite a light perfume. I like fresh, slightly piquant perfumes - not too musky. Never liked Chanel No 5 - too heavy for me. I may like it better now I’m older, but never tried it again. I loved Brut aftershave and I even bought some for myself when I was about 16. I’d keep sniffing it, imagining I had a boyfriend in my life when I actually didn’t at the time! At the moment I wear Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden. Not long-lasting, but light and delicate.

There’s only one perfume for me, Shalimar!

I started as a teenager with Aquamanda then went on to charlie then estee lauder. My favourite is chanel no 5, my 60th birthday present. Since ive always worn Davidoff cool water. My daughter loves Ghost dark night which ive worn as well. I wore Anais for a while but found it sickly as is Florentyna.
Ive also worn various , forgettable, Avon perfumes, although some of the older ones were quite nice.white linnen comes to mind.

I have tried just about every perfume mentioned in this thread but I do like to source unusual ones.
I have at least four different fragrances open and wear according to my mood but always wear perfume every day. Jo Malone and Serge Lutens are my favourites for evenings and daytime wear tends to be L'Occitane at present.

I’ve only worn Paloma Picasso for years. I discovered it by accident but it has become ‘my scent’. I like the smell and it stays on.

I don’t like the very sweet perfumes they have now that smell like lollies or fruit. I always think they must attract flies, bees and wasps!

Sea Jade by Yardley and Aquamanda when I was young. I tracked down a bottle of Sea Jade a few years back and hated it! You can but it on Davy but it’s very expensive. Now it’s Rodriguez “For her”” or if feeling really indulgent, Chanel Mademoiselle.

Because of you perfumistas, I recently bought Maison Something of Other’s ‘Whispers in the Library’.
I found it while looking for ‘By the Fireside’.
It’s nice, but not exactly £100 nice.

Whilst doing our English ‘O’ level on a boiling hot day the lovely teacher invigilating came round and tapped us all on the wrists with 4711 to cool us down. Such a kind thing to do, but the room must have been horrendous for the next lot in!

I used to love wearing perfume but now that I have developed Emphysema cannot wear any, the sniff of one brings on a excerbation.
The first one I remember is Yardley's Bond Street , I used to pinch it from my mother when she left it out.I moved onto La 'Aiment by Coty, Max Factor's Geminess (which I thought very posh), Memeroire Cherie by Elizabeth Arden, then when I could afford them, the Chanel ones.
Two that stand out or me are Ma Griffe, which I bought on the day I found I was pregnant with my first baby, and Yardley's Jade, which was in my hospital bag when my second baby was born.

I can assure you i am not in the process of buying any hahahahahaha.

Despite the fact it would remind me of my gran, the smell was yuk ( to my strong sense of smell that is )

One of my favourites, Zen by Shiseido, is not being made anymore. I have an older bottle with a few tiny spritzes left, so saving that for going out. I will have to search for a new evening fragrance. One bottle will last for years!

On a daily, I have used Lancome O, and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, White Tea and several versions of. For Christmas I received EA White Tea Wild Rose. It's really nice for daytime.

I still have a tiny teddy bear from a bottle of my mums perfume, Tweed, from the 60s. My own first perfume love was shalimar, then one that smelled of apples in an apple shape bottle that I can’t think of any other name for but apple. Poison and opium define a period in my life and for a while Jean Paul gautier perfume in the risqué bottle. More recently Daisy by Marc jacobs and for Christmas I’ve just been given Scandal by JP Gautier. Such evocative smells.

Was the apple perfume called Eden?

I have a little bottle of 4711 on the bathroom shelf. DS bought it for me when he went on a school trip to Germany. He’s 36 now and it still smells exactly the same!

I bought my mum a bottle of this on a school trip to Cologne in 1976. She died this July and it was still sitting on her dressing table.
