Putting away Christmas- when do you do yours?

12th night.
My Christmas starts on St Nicholas' day - 6th December (also my birthday).
Decorations go up sometime in the week before Christmas day.
I am so glad that no-one in my area does outside lights.

5th January - no sooner - no later.

Mine have been taken down and put away. Did it on Monday.

Through to mid-January usually. I do love the sparkles lol!

Miy decs will come fown just before Twelfth Night but the lights stay till Candlemas. I need the light and colour at this time of the year.

I maybe a bit odd but I love taking down the decorations - usually the day after Boxing Day - they are already back in the loft!

? I have been known to put them up Christmas Eve and take them down Boxing Day.
I didn’t bother with anything this year and could quite frankly do the same here on in!
I really dislike them drooping around until Twelfth night, I find it depressing.

Another one for 12th night, here. Tree doesn't go up until Christmas Eve anyway. Family tradition born of a churchgoing childhood (and a need to entertain excited children).

I don't like taking the tree down because I do love a decorated Christmas tree.

I must admit, though, that I'll be glad to see the back of all those garish flashing coloured lights which the locals love to display on their houses and gardens from the beginning of December onwards...

BC -before Covid we kept them up until 12th night. There was always so much coming and going and the grandchildren loved to see them. Now I look at them and think, why are they still up?
DGS is coming for a sleepover today and he’ll help me take them down.
I’ll keep the lights on the bannisters for a while though. They really brighten things up.

Twelfth night.

However we follow the old tradition of not putting decorations up until Christmas eve rather than the 1st December like everyone seems to do now.

We usually take ours down Jan 6th .
We haven't put much up this year - we have a new cat who is a climber so didn't put our big tree up and only when we found out that he didn't like the small of tinsel, did we put our 3 foot prelit tree in place.
Same thing with the lights around the windows - he'd have been hanging off the usual ones, so just have some tiny cluster lights along the top of the window and along a shrub outside.
It was like a little clique with some of the neighbours that are pally - they all put lights up along there front of their house, plus a Christmas tree in their front garden - all taken down on Monday !

I think in the past when real greenery etc was used people didn’t put up their decorations until much later and Christmas lasted until 12th night. Now everything goes up so early we’re all fed up with it soon after Christmas and find waiting till 12 night just too long. I am a bit fed up with ours I have to admit, but I’ll probably leave it until later to take down just because it’s tradition!!!???

Have taken mine down and all packed away. Always do, to me Christmas is an end to the year, time to celebrate and reflect as a family. New Year is all about looking forward, planning time together, but every family is different.

I’m usually a 12th nighter but this year I have just had enough of the holidays and all of it. Normality looks very attractive. Everything is coming down Jan 1st.

Twelfth Night - never before!

My little attempt at decorations - didn’t feel like going the whole hog - will be put away on Friday.
Can’t wait for the potted hyacinths to be in the shops - always heralds Spring and lighter nights to me.

All in the attic. Wouldn't have put them up if I had known GC visit would be cancelled. Although OH might have.

I decided to crack on after lunch today and now just the tree to dismantle (1st Jan) and a few other bits which will all be sorted by tomorrow.

On the first day of Christmas my true love said to me
That is a lovely Christmas tree
On the second day of Christmas
It looked a little rough
And we thought perhaps that we had had enough
On the third day of Christmas
It looked a little bare
There were pine needles everywhere
On the fourth day of Christmas
It didn’t look so bright
As our cat had just fused the lights

The baubles were all gone

The 6th is 12th Night. We'll have to do a Harry Hill and fight about it.

I'm in no hurry to take ours down.

New Years Day...can't wait to have a jolly good tidy up start the new year at afresh.

Easy peasy for me - as the decorations never went up and the cards are still in the hall, next to the recycling! I choose what to display (or not) here!

If it were up to DH, they would come down on Boxing Day, but that's too soon for me. I see he has taken the boxes down from the attic, so over the next few days we will pack things up.

We grew up leaving them until the 6th, and DH was Boxing day, so we have fallen in the middle just before New Years.

Done. And feel much better for it.

Will leave it till new year’s day, from end of November. Then a good dusting, hoovering and tidying up.

Ours when up on Dec 23rd and will come down tomorrow.

I planned to taken them down today but had a better offer of lunch with friends. Much nicer than packing decorations away and after 2 hours drive each way I can't be bothered to start this evening.
