My get-up-and-go has gone ?

Wanted:
Missing, get-up-and-go
If anybody has it can they please send me some?
Is it the dull, damp morning? Too much food over Christmas?
“End of a cr*p year” syndrome?
Whatever, I am finding it hard to stay vertical, can feel no motivation whatsoever for the (few) tasks I had hoped to achieve before the end of the year, and just want to curl up and hibernate.

Living with a partner who veers from very high to rather low doesn’t help either! I am usually full of vigour but feeling really tired today. Pandemic doesn’t help as we usually have lots booked ahead but we are holding back this year. NYE plans changed at the last minute as well. However we, have walked to the allotment and picked the last of the sprouts then sat in weak sun for a swift half at The Woolpack ( Emmerdale fans will know this pub) . Happy new year everybody, hang in there.

Hetty58 I like your lovely pets idea, curling up and sleeping ?

Ive always had a problem with Winter. I'd say do what you can for now. Its always better in Spring. I try to do voluntary things a bit in Winter but if not I do keep fit stuff at least once a week in the mornings just to make me get up and dressed. Spring, Summer and early Autumn I'm usually a bit better.

I regularly lose my mojo, fortunately, it's only me and DH to think about. DH is very easygoing and so long as some food arrives either takeaway or home-cooked he doesn't mind. I have mild C.O.P.D., asthma, osteoporosis, and have recovered from major cancer surgery. It has taken me 70 years to come to the realization that doing anything when not in the mood or when low on energy, never turns out as well as if I wait to be in the mood, be it sewing, baking, or housework. I never feel guilty about being lazy and doing nothing. I know that everything will get done eventually.

Same here, takes ages for me to get up and go. Misty dark days dont help, but hey the days are getting slightly brighter and spring is around the corner. Who knows maybe COVID is on its way out too.

LuluD Fri 31-Dec-21 13:50:58

This is Boo, cuddled up by my feet, encouraging me to sit and read. ( I don’t need any encouragement.) I too am struggling to get motivated.
Will no doubt make my usual new year resolutions to get busy ?
Happy New Year to you all ?

Having read all the 'lost mojo' tales I feel I can relax in the knowledge I am not alone!! At least, as I live alone (except for 2 Boxers and 2 cats), and any untidiness is only there for me to see. Usually I am full of 'get up and go' but my list of to-do jobs just gets longer and I can't be bothered. Hopefully come the Spring and longer days I will be able to find where it is hiding!! As I love reading I have spent more time with my kindle - after exercising the dogs - as the t.v. programmes have been dire! How can they keep showing films from the 40s, 50s and even older? Be interesting if all the mojos were hiding in the same place!!

annie61 Fri 31-Dec-21 13:35:29

I've never liked the culture of you have to be doing all the time, rather than just being sometimes!

Katyj Fri 31-Dec-21 13:20:43

I’ve just come back from visiting my mum who’s 90 3rd time this week as she’s not feeling herself and had to have the Dr yesterday. She’s very cross as the Dr told her there’s nothing he can do to get her mo jo back and it’s just her age ? her reply was watch this space !

Peff68 great to hear that life has taken a turn for the better, much better. Very cheering to read.

Ah yes…washing…a reason to get going ?

Me too. You’ve reminded me I have bedlinen to wash and put on the line while it’s actually sunny and breezy.
I had spent the morning idling with my watercolours painting fish pictures for my daughter, so I still have a little bit of oil left in my lamp ?

Shazmo24 Fri 31-Dec-21 12:10:29

Mine has gone into hiding too..feel like this next year is going to be a case of "Same old, same old" as it has been for the past 2 years.
I can feel my depression is starting to get worse every day and am clinging on by my fingernails

Peff68 Fri 31-Dec-21 12:03:37

Oh I’m with you all on here. DH tested positive on his bd, then me and our sons. MIL in hospital, husband ended up in hospital for 3 days. DS wife dumped him and is cheating on him. Job crap so really not looking forward to going back. Whole Xmas break spent feeling ill and depressed.

But mojo going to come back as all feeling better now, mil coming home today, son already managed to sell their house and looking for one of his own. Other son successfully completed RAF training. I’ve applied for new job had one successful interview got second one new year!

So I can start ‘looking on bright side of life’ now.

Happy new year to all, let’s hope for the great return of our mojo’s!

I think I just need a proper holiday. We had a few booked over the last couple of years which we’ve missed. Fingers crossed for this year. Meanwhile my sanity is maintained by my two loonies. They never lose their get up and go although not averse to a little sofa snuggling as well.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 31-Dec-21 11:55:45

I have a postcard on my desk of a tabby cat sound asleep. The caption reads: Cats don't worry about time, they have enough of it.

Perhaps we should learn from them.

Buffy Fri 31-Dec-21 11:46:32

Same here but I can only blame laziness and my iPad. I spend hours looking at rubbish articles when I should be organising my junk.
New Year’s resolutions needed here.
Happy New Year everyone.

Same here, I have a list of jobs to do but keep putting them off. I've told myself I will get a grip after the New Year weekend and really get stuck in.
Watch this space.

Oh, Lord, don’t remind me.
House is starting to look a bit like a bomb site - even though thanks to COVID the grandchildren haven’t even visited - and then there’s the dreaded tax return…?

But at least my tax return is done!

cc Fri 31-Dec-21 11:41:59

I know just what you mean. I've put on weight over the past couple of years, had stress relating to house moves and DC's house moves, have sciatica, vertigo, just had a horrible cold and all of this has made me feel sluggish and "not myself". To top it all I now have my 70th birthay this month.
I've been ruminating on whether "three scrore years and ten" really is the beginning of the downward path!

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 31-Dec-21 11:34:50

Yes, my get up and go has got up and went! I used to think that was funny, but not now I am there!! Think the pandemic has had a lot to do with it.

polnan Fri 31-Dec-21 11:27:49

I just wish I could change my teaching of a lifetime.. keep on, telling me,, please... it is o.k. to relax, stop, do nothing other than read or... whatever.... it is o.k. to lie in bed past 7 a.m

wish there was a jab available for this..

having said that my gitalong no longer exists,, such a struggle, for months now!

so Maw Maw,, Join the club is what I say...

Sleepy headed cat has lost her mojo too. How clever of her to go back to bed as she knows I won’t disturb her with bed making. How thoughtful is that? I will now have to watch a couple more episodes of Call the Midwife until she allows me to take on the arduous task of making our bed! That’s enough housework nonsense I can ignore for a while as I wait for my mojo to return, if it ever does!

It doesn’t help matters that I am not feeling the least bit guilty so I mark that down as a positive. ?

Folkestone78 Fri 31-Dec-21 11:17:55

So glad to read this at 11.16 , still in bed reading good book and had stopped to look at gransnet. Have been thinking I am the laziest person ever?. Heartened to read these lovely comments and realise I am not alone ?? Happy, peaceful new year everyone xx
