Good morning Michael and all from N. Warwickshire.

I am irritated with the weather app on my phone. At 7:00 it said it is snowing NOW. I know it's a bit childish but I'm always exited by the first sight of snow so I opened the back door and NOTHING.

Why does it keep doing this sort of thing?

Have a good day folk if possible.

Good morning from a drizzly and grey Black Country,

Had a lovely afternoon at DD's celebrating Mums birthday. Played Scrabble and Boggle. DGD aged 10 is not pleased to be going back to school today as older sister doesn't go back until Wednesday! DD starts work today as acting Head, as her Head retired.

DS phoned to say 17 year old DGD has tested positive for Covid! She had it early November, so I am assuming this may be Omicron? I know so many people who have it now.

No real plans today, except for a walk this afternoon unless the weather is too bad. Snow flurries are forecast for this morning!

Wishing you all a good day, with special thoughts of GrannySomerset

NannyJan53 Tue 04-Jan-22 08:27:26

Welcome Msida. I used to deal with complaints where I worked before I retired, and lots of e-mails phone calls after the Christmas holiday, so I know how you feel flowers

Good morning from a cold but fairly clear skies in South Yorkshire. Looking after DGD1 this morning, they are not back to school until tomorrow. Afterwards I'm not sure yet... We'll see.
Hope you all have as good a day as you can

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 04-Jan-22 08:33:01

Good morning all from dry Harrogate with a smattering of snow
Nothing planned for today, just gradually putting away Christmas. Washing sheets and generally doing nothing.
Ooh Scentia that sounds painful, hope it eases soon.
Hope all the covid sufferers are recovering as with others with ailments
Have the best day possible everyone

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s dry after a wet end to the day yesterday and the sun is about to pop over the horizon. Washing on. Some shopping and a walk at the arboretum later.
I got soaked walking yesterday despite setting off under blue skies. Fabulous rainbow the whole time.
DGS doesn’t go back to school till next Wednesday. On site testing for his year group is on Tuesday the 11th. Hoping to meet him and the DDs on Thursday somewhere in South Yorkshire possibly at the Sculpture Park.
Sending more good wishes to all who are struggling and unwell.
Have the best you you can everyone.

Grandmajean Tue 04-Jan-22 08:43:46

Good morning from Cheshire.
Nice to see you posting Msida
Best wishes to your daughter ,Gingster
All Christmas decorations now put away and a little bunch of narcissi gracing. The mantlepiece.
I noticed a small difference in the time it got dark yesterday afternoon. The days are definitely lengthening.
Kind thoughts to all the worried and unwell here.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

monk08 Tue 04-Jan-22 08:44:54

Good morning all from the Black country bit dull outside but could be worse. Had email from cousin in Canada with a wish you was here to help shovel the snow, and it was -20 and snow almost to top of back door.
Welcome Msida?
Safe travels anyone travelling, virtual hugs where needed and may you all find some ?.

Grandmabatty Tue 04-Jan-22 08:50:04

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2°, a heavy frost and clear skies. It feels very cold. Yesterday was a family curry karaoke night which was great, although none of us could be bothered with karaoke. We sat and blethered instead. The homemade curries were amazing. My uncle went to classes in Glasgow and was taught by a well known Indian chef. Dd, sil and dgs2 came along. The baby was well behaved and only cried when he needed attention, as all good babies do.
Today I have no plans. I intend to have a lazy day. Tomorrow I'm picking up dgs1 from playgroup and bringing him to my house for cake, lunch and playing so I will be tired.
Have a good day all.

Chrissielou Tue 04-Jan-22 08:50:34

A very dark, wet and windy morning here in Oxfordshire. It seems cold too with the wind howling around the house. Back to work today and I'm back at the dining room table for zoom meetings galore.
Having a smart meter fitted for the 2nd time, it didn't work the first time, engineer has just asked me if I'd plugged it in! hmm
Have a good day.

Nannytopsy Tue 04-Jan-22 08:54:03

Good morning Mick and all his followers. Suffolk has had a lot of rain but at the moment it’s just more clouds. We need to got out into the garden and finish the autumn tidy up so I am hoping for a couple of dry days soon.
DGD (5) had a +ve covid test and DiL is poorly so they await PCR results. DS is working in London until Thursday but if they are positive he can’t go home! He would be another NHS worker not able to go to work. I think he may have to come here.
Dentist for us this morning and WI committee this afternoon. There should be cake! We shall space ourselves out in the village hall instead of squeezing into someone’s house.
I hope the day is good to everyone.

Oldbutstilluseful Tue 04-Jan-22 08:54:32

Good morning from a decidedly colder NE Hampshire. All Christmas decorations put away and only memories left of some happy times.
Thinking of everyone starting this year faced with heartbreak and poor health. I wish you all a few moments of joy

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jan-22 08:59:04

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry and bright but looks chilly out. I’ve just had a peek at the Malaga temperatures for the weekend. 20°C with big fat sunshines that’ll do me very nicely.

I’m meeting my walking buddy in the square for a walk. My teddy coat will keep me snug! Coffees to go then perhaps a mulled wine together inside the wine bar would be good. Himself is going to take down the decs and dismantle the lights on the verandah whilst I’m out. See what I’m doing here students?
#lazygrannewyear ?

Hope those who can enjoy Tuesday. No Matt he’s still away. I’m going to read the 39 posts now that were up already when I logged on!

Jaxjacky Tue 04-Jan-22 08:59:36

Good morning Mick and all from high cloud in S Hants, chillier.
Good news on your DD Gingster and your son’s travel gM.
We had a walk out by the sea/river yesterday, grey skies, grey water.
Will go out later for a more local stroll wrapped up.
Thoughts with those poorly and GrannySomerset.
Have a good day all ???

baubles Tue 04-Jan-22 09:00:02

Good morning Mick, morning all from cold and frosty South Lanarkshire.

Good to hear about your plans Mick
Hope your leg heals quickly Scentia.
Gingster sending good wishes for your DD.

Marydoll, you are wise to lock yourself away until your appointment, this thing is spreading so fast although I’m pleased to report that we are both improving a little day by day, so thankful to have only had a mild dose.

It’s still a holiday here, my lot don’t go back to school and work till tomorrow so DD is bringing daft dug back to us today which will be lovely, we’ve missed her. They will have a last dog walk in the park on the way over.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day. Keep an eye out for the ??.

ginny Tue 04-Jan-22 09:09:56

Good morning to you all. Another dull damp day here in N. Bucks.
Off to DD3 in a while. I expect DGS 2 has plans for my entertainment and DGS3 will be pleased to join in where he can. Taking homemade pea and mint soup with me for lunch.
Hope today brings a smile to you all at some point.

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jan-22 09:11:49

Good Morning All x.
Another bright day but a bit more crispy than of late and it's noticeable as I've managed without the heating. Still not put it on as I hope to work up a sweat later with cleaning grin-----notice I said " hope ".

Opened up a present a couple of days ago, a set of Guerlain soaps and they smell beautiful which you can smell all over the place, creamy too, a nice treat, so I keep washing my hands with it instead of the Dettol handwash !

Enjoyed the last of my beef dinner yesterday so it's back to non-rich food and a veggie stir-fry today---what a come down. Never mind, give the innards a rest.

I haven't heard any children's voices around so maybe they don't go back to school yet, tomorrow perhaps round here.

I'm definitely turning into Victor Meldrew because when I put the TV on this morning ( spare one ) the area was Spain ??
"I don't believe it", said I to myself and was quite paranoid that it was being done on purpose , that someone was messing around with my aerial or reception wherever it now comes from----Winter Hill once upon a time.

Anyway, I switched off and switched it back on and hey-presto it was BBC1 news. I don't get it at all. Ah well, worse things happen at sea.

Off to do the crumpets and hot choc. before I die of hunger, so I hope everyone's okay and those who aren't I hope things improve.
Special thoughts to GrannySomerset at this time x

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.xx

Mapleleaf Tue 04-Jan-22 09:14:56

Good morning,

It’s a cold, but dry start to the day here. Will definitely need to wrap up warmly outside today. May venture to the shops later for a few provisions.

Started taking decorations down yesterday and plan a few more today, then the tree tomorrow (12th night). The house always seems a bit bare once they’re all put away, but I’ll soon get used to it again.

Take care everyone.

aggie Tue 04-Jan-22 09:15:48

Good Morning, just had a furious flurry of snow , but short lived and it didn’t settle , thank goodness !
I’ve started dismantling the battery lights , the batteries have run down so better putting them away than putting new batteries in . I do miss them . I put a bunch of lights in the log burner , it cheers me up , so I keep it going till the spring , or till I get fed up ?
I have a few candles to light yet , I always get gifts of candles , some are too pretty to burn ,

aggie Tue 04-Jan-22 09:18:04

Thinking of GrannySomerset and her family xxx

Grammaretto Tue 04-Jan-22 09:19:33

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Minus 1 degrees and crunchy underfoot.
My old gas aga cooker left the building yesterday. It was 6 months ago when df came for coffee and smelled gas. She came to lunch yesterday and witnessed the eviction. She then went to the loo and noticed a drip from the ceiling.
Should I thank her!!!
I am trying to get a roofer now.
So glad DS made it back to India grandMattie that's one less worry.
May the sun shine on you all today.smile

FannyCornforth Tue 04-Jan-22 09:20:21

Good morning everyone from me in a reassuringly cooler Derby.
Hoping for a little bit of snow today.

Such worrying times again. Especially thinking of those who work in Health and Education. I don’t know where they get their reserves from.

Today’s high point is a phone appointment with MrC’s wonderful OHT. She usually comes to our house, but not this time.

No funny today I’m afraid, might come back with one later.
I’ve had a ridiculously disturbed night due to Nextdoor’s (aka ^The Lunatics^) cats.
They have broken the magnetic cat flap in order to use our house as a surrogate home cum buffet.

I wouldn’t mind (well, I probably would, but only slightly) but it drives DDog Gracie bananas, so she’s barking and running around like a thing possessed.

Currently waiting for new magnetic cat flap from Amazon.

Wishing everyone a pleasant and peaceful day (not to mention productive and painfree) x

Good morning everyone from a wet and windy Northampton; hoping it clears up as I would like to join my health walk this afternoon. I need to get out and get back to some semblance of normality. Will be doing a LFT first. I managed to order another box yesterday from the government website.

Phone call from DS yesterday to ask whether I had his birth certificate; thought we had handed it over years ago, but no, there it was, along with other important documents in DH's old briefcase. Up to now DGDs have always had Swedish passports (Dil is Swedish), but to renew them they have to go to the Swedish Embassy in London, and it is getting a bit of a faff, so they have decided to get British passports for the girls. DS was here within half an hour to collect it, as Dil had started the online application process and they needed to scan DS's birth certificate in.

Didn't do a lot yesterday apart from start a new book, a real-life spy story which I know I will enjoy, having seen a tv documentary about it last year.

Must stir myself and get showered and dressed or I shall be behind myself all morning.

Welcome to our new posters, and everyone have the best day they can.

Good morning from a bright, sunny Durham. Blue sky here after a wet night.
Hoping to meet DD2 and DGS2 at a big retail centre later - looking for a hat for cold walks. I’m expecting hilarity as I don’t have a hat head!
Re-Easter eggs in Iceland, I can remember my DF wondering how my Jersey milk stayed fresh, coming such a long way. My DM’s face was a picture when she told him the milk doesn’t come from Jersey, you daft b*gger, it’s from Jersey cows.
Thinking of GS and her unenviable journey.
