Fabricated posts…..why?

There has been a spate of fabricated posts recently.
I think the latest is to feed someone’s sexual fantasy the others have just been ridiculous.
What on earth goes through these peoples minds when they write this tosh?
Do they get a kick out of the replies?

Have we got another on now, about soup under the Christmas tree?

That member has poster several times.

I’m inclined to agree with you there Flo

And I’m another one who doesn’t think that it’s anything to do with young people.

One advantage of being in a different Timezone is that I rarely get to see the weirdo messages. They must be very bored and/or very thick is all I can say.

Having not been a member on this site for very long I am seriously considering leaving as there are so many obviously spoof posts on here that I am just suspicious of everything. Apart from the charming "Good Morning" one. Why everyone doesn't just say this is too fanciful for words and respond in case it isn't, baffles me, unless these folks are doing spoof ones also. One lady who often challenges (forget the name) had her posts deleted yesterday. I don't know what was in them but I bet they had more truth in them than what was in the post. This is Social Media Land Folks, simply don't take everything at face value. We could, everyone of us be Korean men sat in a computer centre trying to steal identities. Everyone except me of course, I'm genuine, or am I?

The references to green pen complaints reminded me of someone who used to come into where I worked to use the fax machine. He told us (at length) about the complaints he was sending to the police HQ. Not only were they in green ink, but also IN CAPITAL LETTERS! Sadly, the fax would be received in black and white, which must have spoilt the effect a bit. grin

Thanks Sago were they in Chat? I’ve seen some vile stuff on other supposedly medical forums. Obviously not even monitored.

I was wondering about the soup from the dog too auntiflo

Urmstongran

There are some strange individuals about.

A hospital consultant I worked with used to say ‘beware the complaint letters written in green biro’.

Oh god yes, I worked in newspapers for many years and we always knew to beware the 'letters to the editor' written in green pen!

BlueBelle Fri 07-Jan-22 11:13:02

I don’t think it’s young people AT ALL gaga they are much to busy on their own sites to bother with an old persons forum No it’s attention seeking bored adults

I reported the 14 year old sexual thread which was worrying at the least, hopefully it’s been removed
The quickest way is to try not to get involved you know the old saying that a fire dies without oxygen

The one about the 14 year old last night was disturbing. The idea that someone was having that sort of sick fantasy about a child, ugh!

JenniferEccles Fri 07-Jan-22 10:59:16

Most are just silly and reasonably easy to spot especially for those with good memories who notice a familiar pattern in the subject matter despite being posted under a different name.

Very occasionally though an elaborate, well thought out, long running one comes along, initially building a completely genuine sounding lifestyle, until the unbelievable ‘punchline’ at the end which wasn’t well timed or thought out, and which after some thought gives the game away that the whole thing was a hoax.

I guess there are various reasons why some people feel the need to do things like that.

My bet is isolating teenagers, bored, with covid. Wanting to wind up a few grannies. All I can say is, if that is the quality of their English narrative writing, they're not going to pass their English GCSE.

Gaga I'm surprised that you, with your experience of teenagers, think they're responsible.

They never strike me as being written by young people, more rather sad middle and older aged ones, particularly the family sagas.

M0nica Fri 07-Jan-22 10:40:59

I think most of the fakes are too sophisticated and show too deep a knowledge to be written by teenagers. Teenagers are a very easy target.

I think it is mainly bored adults with no inner resources, who are hoping that someone will say something stupid that they can make hay with.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 07-Jan-22 10:28:32

I don’t think they’re all written by young people. I remember one who I thought was young, drunk and deranged but I think others I can recall were probably ‘GN age’. Some stories are quite credible and the poster obviously wants attention, engaging with people who reply almost as if having a conversation. Then it starts to become obvious it’s a wind up but people still offer their kind advice without reading the thread, thinking they are being helpful. Whether the OP is finding the whole thing hilarious or believes in their fairy tale I have no idea. Unfortunately there’s a regular GN poster who starts wind up threads which are a mixture of fantasy and half truths and they seem to find it very amusing if the constant ‘ha has’ are anything to go by. Obviously I won’t name them but I do think it’s very unkind to draw people into a fictitious or semi-fictitious scenario and then watch everyone trying to assist.

Ah yes the good old days of the sac volant….

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 07-Jan-22 10:22:11

Do you think it’s the same person? They signup as a new member each time then delete their account and start again.

I know we’ve had a few quite long lived GNers whose daily lives became more incredible each day, flying accessories etc. spring to mind.
My Mum always said that liars need good memories and we soon came to realise that their stories changed as the days went on.
Now they pop up and then disappear, or maybe it’s just the same person with different names?

I had a really weird email too saying is this the photograph you are after? with a link and I did wonder if was connected to all the weird posts here

JJ This message has been around a while and is one of those scams where you have to put in your details to view the picture you are supposed to be on. Be careful everyone the scammers are thinking up all new kinds of scams to get your information.

I must admit I didn't read the whole thread I'd started on toilets. There was so many replies that it became overwhelming and I couldn't pick up the courage to reopen the thread blush

Urmstongran Fri 07-Jan-22 10:00:32

Totally agree Kim19. I think posters just don’t read the thread so charge in not realising they’re being duped. Another good reason to RTFT.
?

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 09:57:22

I didn't think the one last night was young either but it wasn't very imaginative, some posters at least put some thought into their stories whilst smoking with the fan on in the kitchen

Kim19 Fri 07-Jan-22 09:57:22

What amazed me yesterday was how long people kept responding to the '60 year old dilemma' when it was obviously a load of tripe.

tanith Fri 07-Jan-22 09:56:27

It’s attention seeking first and foremost they do it to get a reaction ? they live in fantasy world it’s a sad place to be.
