There has been a spate of fabricated posts recently.
I think the latest is to feed someone’s sexual fantasy the others have just been ridiculous.
What on earth goes through these peoples minds when they write this tosh?
Do they get a kick out of the replies?

Grandmabatty Fri 07-Jan-22 09:01:22

I think some people are drunk or bored and get a kick out of the anonymity. They chuckle as they watch kind intentioned posters replying with concern and advice. They are deeply unpleasant.

Seems it's just because they can Sago Some people obviously have very little else to do than make up messages on here. Maybe trapped at home due to Covid otherwise I blame Brexit.

Soda pop ?

BlueSky Fri 07-Jan-22 09:11:17

Sago where? I haven’t seen them!

Sago Fri 07-Jan-22 09:35:50

BlueSky Yesterday it was a menstruating 60 year old asking our advice on wether or not to have a child, the post has been deleted.
Today it’s a bondage loving 14 year old lesbian.
Earlier in the week it was a heavy smoking&drinking gran wanting more access to her GC.
Before Christmas there were a few from some silly woman who has problems with her fictitious staff.

When do the schools go back?

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 09:47:01

I had a really weird email too saying is this the photograph you are after? with a link and I did wonder if was connected to all the weird posts here

???

In a previous life I worked in a role where I often dealt with made up stories - some so sad and apparently genuine, it was hard not to be sucked in. Once rumbled and challenged these individuals would then target other staff, especially newer members who could be very upset until told about the lies.

Why they did and continued to do it, sometimes for years, remains a mystery.

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 09:49:36

It’s depressing though isn’t it?

I was a Samaritan for some years and while I mostly felt I was going some good - or doing my best to, often just by being there -particularly on the overnight (telephone) shift, the hoax callers and sexual fantasists (of whom there were many) left a bad taste. The only thought or consolation I could come up with was that they did in fact have a problem, although not the one they were presenting with.

GagaJo Fri 07-Jan-22 09:50:19

My bet is isolating teenagers, bored, with covid. Wanting to wind up a few grannies. All I can say is, if that is the quality of their English narrative writing, they're not going to pass their English GCSE.

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 09:53:48

I’m not so sure I necessarily agree with the young demographic

I think there are as many isolated, disturbed, attention seeking (and even malicious) in all age groups.

Redhead56 Fri 07-Jan-22 09:55:20

They crop up now and then and they are best ignored.

tanith Fri 07-Jan-22 09:56:27

It’s attention seeking first and foremost they do it to get a reaction ? they live in fantasy world it’s a sad place to be.

Kim19 Fri 07-Jan-22 09:57:22

What amazed me yesterday was how long people kept responding to the '60 year old dilemma' when it was obviously a load of tripe.

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 09:57:22

I didn't think the one last night was young either but it wasn't very imaginative, some posters at least put some thought into their stories whilst smoking with the fan on in the kitchen

Urmstongran Fri 07-Jan-22 10:00:32

Totally agree Kim19. I think posters just don’t read the thread so charge in not realising they’re being duped. Another good reason to RTFT.
?

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 10:03:03

I must admit I didn't read the whole thread I'd started on toilets. There was so many replies that it became overwhelming and I couldn't pick up the courage to reopen the thread blush

Urmstongran Fri 07-Jan-22 10:03:37

There are some strange individuals about.

A hospital consultant I worked with used to say ‘beware the complaint letters written in green biro’.

Grandmabatty Fri 07-Jan-22 10:05:13

JJ This message has been around a while and is one of those scams where you have to put in your details to view the picture you are supposed to be on. Be careful everyone the scammers are thinking up all new kinds of scams to get your information.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 07-Jan-22 10:22:11

Do you think it’s the same person? They signup as a new member each time then delete their account and start again.

I know we’ve had a few quite long lived GNers whose daily lives became more incredible each day, flying accessories etc. spring to mind.
My Mum always said that liars need good memories and we soon came to realise that their stories changed as the days went on.
Now they pop up and then disappear, or maybe it’s just the same person with different names?

Lucca Fri 07-Jan-22 10:26:56

Ah yes the good old days of the sac volant….

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 07-Jan-22 10:28:32

I don’t think they’re all written by young people. I remember one who I thought was young, drunk and deranged but I think others I can recall were probably ‘GN age’. Some stories are quite credible and the poster obviously wants attention, engaging with people who reply almost as if having a conversation. Then it starts to become obvious it’s a wind up but people still offer their kind advice without reading the thread, thinking they are being helpful. Whether the OP is finding the whole thing hilarious or believes in their fairy tale I have no idea. Unfortunately there’s a regular GN poster who starts wind up threads which are a mixture of fantasy and half truths and they seem to find it very amusing if the constant ‘ha has’ are anything to go by. Obviously I won’t name them but I do think it’s very unkind to draw people into a fictitious or semi-fictitious scenario and then watch everyone trying to assist.
