They are only going to be here for a few days, would it really be too much to provide that protection for such a short time? They won't be here for weeks or months.
I sort of agree on this very special occasion Chestnut, but as someone mentioned above it will set a precedent. It isn't just for a few days, it is for every time he comes "home" according to his statement.

If one person is allowed to hire the police for their own protection it sets a precedent for others rich enough to do so. He’s made his choice. Now he must live with the consequences.

I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and say I think he should be able to pay for Police protection whilst here in the UK.

Whatever we think of him, he and his children are direct blood line to the Queen and if they had stayed here would have had Police protection round the clock. They are only going to be here for a few days, would it really be too much to provide that protection for such a short time? They won't be here for weeks or months. And it won't come free.

He really isn’t the brightest coin in the mint.

Perhaps it’s an excuse not to come. Then we can be blamed.

He was chased by paparazzi last year which must have been very frightening for him after what happened to his mother. However, the have courted the press and have to expect this interest.

The Duke of Sussex has filed a claim for a judicial review against a Home Office decision not to allow him to personally pay for police protection for himself and his family while in the UK.

He wants to pay for his own protection and does not want the British taxpayer to foot the bill.

Did anyone read Harry's statement in the link provided by lemsip? Amongst all the waffle this jumped out to me.

The UK will always be Prince Harry’s home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in. With the lack of police protection, comes too great a personal risk.^

So every time he comes "home" he will always require this protection for himself and his family.

They both have acted like stroppy teenagers. What a great difference between the actions of William and Kate and Harry and Megan

William and Kate have gone out of their way to support Britain in this crisis were Harry and Megan have selfishly stopped off to America with no regard for anyone but themselves

When you have had such a priveldged life thanks to British tax payers you really ought to have a little more respect

I bet Harry is really missing his involvement with the military, after that very different Californian life. It meant a lot to him. Now Andrew has been removed as "head " of so many institutions, Harry must be feeling a bit wistful, seeing all those opportunities going begging.

And there's me thinking Harry and Meghan had gone to live in the States never to return! How foolish of me. I easily forget that these entitled people truly believe themselves to be adored and protected forever however rude they are.

There is no need for police protection.
He/they would fly into Heathrow in a private jet, straight to Windsor probably by helicopter, afternoon tea with the Queen and any other members of the family who could be press-ganged into meeting them, then back home again.
Nobody else would want to see them.

If a forthcoming trip is Royal Family related e.g. Jubilee celebrations it would be easier for the Met to provide security for them - it would compromise the security of an event if they had to coordinate with a private team for Harry.

If the trip is private then he can pay for private security, just as a lot of high-profile people do. There are many firms that provide ex-Met and forces to high profile rich families of oligarchs, celebrities, business people, etc.

The Met shouldn't be for hire, because that's what it would be, even for a prince.

British police are not for hire.

I’m not sure that can be done Gaga. It would amount to a private citizen hiring the police and would set a precedent.
If they want to make a private visit to allow the Queen to meet the children that could be done without publicity. If they want to come here to join in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations I wouldn’t be surprised to hear booing which would be very upsetting for the Queen. I can’t imagine them being allowed to undertake any official duties to help out after Andrew’s departure even if they wanted to - I thought the reason they flounced off was that they didn’t want to be part of the RF and be subjected to publicity (haha)?

I’m wondering if it was Andrew or Boris that made a call to California. “Harry please help, say or do anything, no matter how silly, to divert the attention away from me!

When I read it, my first thought was that he was finding an excuse NOT to come to the UK during the Queen's platinum celebrations. "It's all your fault I can't bring my children over" blah blah blah.

Oh dear hope this isn't going to turn into Diana's death debate again.

Personally I couldn't give a monkeys about the details of Diana's death now. I can't gave been around on GN for a debate on her death? The point is that Harry always relates everything back to how his mother was treated. He uses it as leverage for some reason, maybe to gain sympathy? Enough said.

He wants armed protection. It is only legal here for the police to provide it. He will pay for it himself.

I don't see the issue. Let him have the protection and pay for it himself.

He should get the Americans on to it seeing as he lives there and prefers it. If he thinks it is too dangerous he should stop at home.

The couple pay for their security in the USA. I always thought it mean spirited and foolish to remove his security. He’s a real target for terrorists, he’s the brother of our future king, son of the king in waiting, he served in Afghanistan and supports our veterans.
His mother died in an accident that probably wouldn’t have happened if her protection hadn’t been removed.
