Give me back my bodyguards: Prince Harry threatens legal action against the government and demands return of police protection because 'it is not safe for the Sussexes to return to UK for visits'

Oh dear hope this isn't going to turn into Diana's death debate again.

Maybe they have been asked to come over here so they can take on some royal duties as well as be included for the platinum jubilee celebrations . He knows his wife is hated here. Perhaps they are more aware of threats than us. They had death threats. The Queen also had someone recently with a weapon in the grounds. I think what happened to Diana would have been avoided if she had had her HRH title and therefore police security. I think it should be provided free to them.

Well, if he is performing public duties then public security should be provided for those occasions.

Perhaps he’s considering coming back part time to take on Andrew’s now empty roles? ?

I believe they have enough finances to fly privately and could land at a private facility and be transferred onwards via helicopter. They do not need to be seen in public at all. After all, a private visit should be just that. Private!

I was under the impression, maybe wrongly that the USA is a far more dangerous place than the UK? I’m not persuaded that public security forces should be hired out to to a private citizen. We’ve enough privatisation via the backdoor going on already.

The bodyguards were not responsible, they advised Diana and
Dodi not to leave the hotel.

They were inexperienced though Annie and made bad decisions.

Please let’s not imply blame to Diana for her death.

You reap what you sow, Harry.

I did wonder at his motive for wanting to visit, cynical me! Maybe with the focus on Andrew Harry thinks he can swoop in like a saviour and return to the fold? More realistically I guess he wants to see his grandmother before it’s too late? And to participate in the Jubilee celebrations.
Personally I wish he’d just shut up....?

couldn't put it better myself

he has knocked boris off headlines for a while so he'll be breathing a sigh of relief

Harry definitely won't want to use private bodyguards because the ones employed by Fayed were pretty much responsible for the death of his mother on that fateful night in Paris.

Baggs Sun 16-Jan-22 08:08:37

Hadn't got as far as your post, BlueBaloo. Soz

Baggs Sun 16-Jan-22 08:06:41

Cold

I'm sure that there are any number of private bodyguarding firms in London that would be able to provide former military/ and probably former royal bodyguards. He chose to leave royal life and presumably has been sourcing his own security staff in LA for several years

This just sounds like a PR stunt

PR type stunt crossed my mind too. Andrew's getting all the attention; what about poor little us?!

Calendargirl Sun 16-Jan-22 08:04:19

If meeting the Queen and Charles is the main issue, surely it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that a private visit could be arranged? The world and his wife doesn’t have to know anything about it until they are safely back in California.

I imagine the Queen and Charles have enough to worry about at the moment without the Sussexes adding to it. Entertaining them will hardly be top of priorities, especially after Oprahgate.

Lucca Sun 16-Jan-22 07:55:10

Yes well the main objection on here seems to be as far as the queen is concerned that’s all. If he’s offered to pay would that not be acceptable?
Question - with private bodyguards which he could use are they really not allowed guns ? What do other celebrities do ? Just interested …no particular axe to grind re H

The only way he can introduce the baby to family surely is to come here ?

Not the Queen obviously, but I suppose Charles could fly over there to meet his latest GC.

There again, after all the hoo haa, don’t imagine he wants to.

Also read that he wants to pay for it himself so as ‘not to impose on the tax payer’.

Pity he didn’t think of that previously when he was bleating on to Oprah about losing his taxpayer funded security.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 16-Jan-22 07:40:43

The latest sprog is now 7 months old and hasn’t yet seen her grandfather or great grandmother.

Harry is 6 th in line. His risk is obvious together with his Afghanistan tours. He is also at risk from neo-Nazis and extremist threats. He is a British citizen.

Harry asked if he could pay for police protection, and the Home Office turned this request down.

It is being challenged in court.

Calendargirl Sun 16-Jan-22 07:39:54

Well, don’t come back then. Stay in the USA.

Just read that Lilibet is yet to meet her great grandmother the Queen, her grandfather Prince Charles and ‘other members of the family’.

And whose fault is that?

(Meghan, I’m looking at you, with Harry crouching behind).

Urmstongran Sun 16-Jan-22 07:37:32

THE Duke of Sussex has said he does not feel safe in the UK, as he challenges a Home Office decision not to allow him to personally pay for police protection for him and his family.

The Duke wants to bring his son Archie and baby daughter Lilibet to visit from the US, but he and his family are “unable to return to his home” because it is too dangerous, a legal representative said.

Lexisgranny Sun 16-Jan-22 07:10:06

I agree withRosie51 if this is permitted if this is permitted a precedent will be set, so where will it end? Apparently the Queen was informed of his intention shortly before the announcement was made.

Framilode Sun 16-Jan-22 06:22:06

Apparently, the reason he wants police protection is that the police can be armed whereas private security people can't be.

Kim19 Sun 16-Jan-22 02:22:36

I was SO glad they'd gone, quiet or otherwise.
