I am thinking of switching my bank. Anyone done it?

Nationwide for me, they will be keeping their high street presence. I am sure that Lloyds, which has been forced on me, will go the way of Barclays which is getting rid of 5000 employees

I know that Nationwide is good, a close relative works for them and they have already done their re-structuring

I am naturally a bit twitchy about the mechanics of a switch and would welcome any views on your own experience

Will keep an eye on this thread.

Feel the same as you do.

I’ve just googled changing banks UK.

There’s a very comprehensive guide and I believe nationwide will offer you £175 to move to them. There’s an official seven day switch policy and banks are legally required to ensure the switchover doesn’t go beyond that, or they must reimburse you any charges you incur. At the moment I’m quite happy with Lloyds, but I think if I were to change, I’d pick mid-month when the fewer of my direct debit orders go out.

We moved from Natwesr to First Direct many years ago, it was swift and pain free. Banks know customers can and will move their accounts and the procedures are in place to make it as simple as possible. The banks do almost all of the work. I would do it again if I felt it was beneficial.

I have done it in the past and plan to do it again as soon as Lloyds give me access to my account,

I am already banking with the Nationwide and will soon concentrate all my funds there.

I’ve been with all of them.
I first switched in the 70s when Barclays lied to me. That was when it took forever andtgere could be hiccups if you had transactions pending.
But when the new system came in it was so easy.
I left the Co-Op because of the sleazeball running the banking side.
I left HSBC because of the dirty dealings with drug cartels in Central America.
It’s so easy now 🤷‍♀️

I switched from Virgin Money to Nationwide.
It was so simple.
I gave a date for the switch and everything was done for me, all the direct debits, standing orders etc went straight over.
It could not have been more simple.
I think I got £175 for making the switch.

Do they inform DWP of the change so that pension and any entitled benefits are paid into new account ??
