Give me back my bodyguards: Prince Harry threatens legal action against the government and demands return of police protection because 'it is not safe for the Sussexes to return to UK for visits'

Anniebach Tue 18-Jan-22 09:06:50

Yes maddyone it has been said on this thread the police do
carry out protection and there is payment but this is for police
crowd patrol not special squads , he shouldn’t and can’t expect
the protection which the working members of the royal family
receive,his six cousins don’t.

Josieann Tue 18-Jan-22 09:06:42

a very reliable source' ie 'my cousin's neighbour's cousin went to school with someone who uses the same dry cleaner as Carol Middleton' s sister.
grin
Well someone has to use the same dry cleaner as Carole Middleton's sister, though I thought she only had a somewhat colourful brother?

Harry doesn’t want a British Bobby, he wants a protection squad who work with MI5 , he wants what the Queen has.

Yes Annie but whatever he wants, it simply isn’t available to be hired as and when an individual wants or requires it.

LadyWee I am neither a vitriol thrower nor a basher. In my experience those posters are usually one line throwers who find the nastiest comment to shock.
Many on the H & M threads have feelings too, and like me are a people's person who likes to fathom out human nature, particularly within the family unit. I do admit that the British press has a lot to answer for in its portrayal of victims and villains, and that people might jump to conclusions, but there have been some very discerning and enlightening comments on the Royal threads, including this one, which are of interest to many posters, even beyond those posting here.

reasons have been given as to why this can’t happen………You cannot hire the Met for private security, read the thread.

Exactly. The Met are not for hire, it’s that simple. It doesn’t matter what any of us think about Harry and Meghan, it’s a fact that the Met cannot be hired by private individuals.

LadyWee

No one actually knows the truth about anything that happened with any of the royal family.
Because they are in the public eye people feel they can judge and criticise and state their opinions and judgements as truths.
Leave them alone! Stop falling for the British press intentions of inciting heroes and villains and victims.
All of these people are actually people! They all have feelings and emotions and this constant bashing of people on the public eye is immature, damaging and unhelpful. Like them or dislike them fine, but there is no need to write on forums in this way.
It just encourages the press to keep on hounding celebrities because it promotes conversation and sells papers. If it’s not celebrities it’s public sector workers!
How many more deaths of public figures do we need for the public to understand this!

Well said. I hate the way people just casually announce on threads that X member of the Royal family had an affair/is gay/is illegitimate when all they're going on is ill informed press reports and gossip. Some of them even claim to have heard this from 'a very reliable source' ie 'my cousin's neighbour's cousin went to school with someone who uses the same dry cleaner as Carol Middleton' s sister'.

It's so irresponsible to casually spread rumours like that with no thought for the actual human beings involved.

LadyWee I do not think I am among the vitriol throwers, but in life generally, I have little time for those who walk away from tasks in life but demand all the benefits. Like the man who refused to pay his Council Tax because he was a 'sovereign citizen' but didn't hesitate to use all the services the council provided from maintaining the roads to educating his childrem.

Prince Harry and his wife have decided that being an official member of the Royal family with its obligations is not for them. So they have returned to the country of her birth and are making their future their.

Prince Harry now has to accept that if he does that he cannot keep all the bells and whistles and trappings of that former life, while not 'earning' them.

There are many celebrities and politicians in the public eye, who I would think would be as likely if not more so of attracting the attention of malefactors who would choose to harm them. They do not get police protection and must organise their own security.

Prince Harry is now a private citizen. He is enjoying all the pleasures and privelieges that go with not being a member of the Royal Family. He must learn to deal with the downsides as well.

Josieann Tue 18-Jan-22 08:16:58

Are we maybe missing a point here? Would the British Armed Police actually wish to share their intelligence with a private police organisation? There are so many different departments it would be difficult to allow an outside group into the fold. DS does military "jobs" and the co ordination required by all divisions is meticulously guarded.
What we can be assured of is that if anyone were intending to harm Harry and actually made a move, then the British Police would act immediately and appropriately anyway.

I've read the thread. I still think he should get it.

Because he is a close relative of the Queen , Harry and family would be a target for terrorists and nut jobs. He would need security. The met would be able to provide armed security and have access to immediate backup, which unarmed bodyguards wouldn’t be able to do. He would pay for this service. I can’t think why people would object to this when the taxpayers are forking out for security for Prince Andrew, ex PMs etc

his thread is rolling on and on with out of the air comments by peope who don't read what's gone before!

dragonfly46 Tue 18-Jan-22 06:24:26

I think the main point is that the police would be more aware of the type of threats there are at any given time, they can be armed and Harry is willing to pay. They would only be needed when the family were not with other members of the Royal Family.

I am not a fan of the couple but it seems reasonable to me.

LadyWee Tue 18-Jan-22 05:48:46

I don’t usually write on these type of threads but I happened to be reading through and was bewildered by the level of vitriol that has been thrown at these people!

Trisher, that’s why Catherine was so “sick” - so she could wear her bump less.

I think it has been suggested that Archie was a surrogate baby. They are his parents, but someone else carried and gave birth to him. Now I don't know this, it's only what I read, and that was only hinted at. As for Lillie? Who knows?

I've also read that Elvis is still alive and that people are regularly abducted by aliens.

Perhaps I should start a rumour that Prince George was a surrogate baby.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 17-Jan-22 22:26:05

I just don’t see why he needs our police for protection if he comes on a private visit. They don’t have to be out and about, I think they are more worried about photos being taken of the children and used without them getting paid for them. They can’t make a private visit because nothing is private with them.

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jan-22 21:52:33

Yes, Elvis was on the telly this evening ?
I saw him
