Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

Sure as Biden or Trump Grany?

Yes he or she would.

I certainly care what happened all those years ago.
Never was never will be on side Charles and Camilla..My opinion unlikely to ever change.
Her majesty will have however, and in her wisdom, taken the only route.

An independent, effective head of state would at this moment be engaged in the serious issues of falling trust in politics and the behaviour of the PM. Not celebrating their longevity in office.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 11-Feb-22 16:17:45

Is it any worse than a President’s wife being called the First Lady? A twee title if ever there was one.

Anniebach Fri 11-Feb-22 16:15:09

I know Tina some do, some don’t,

Yes, but does it really matter , it doesn’t affect me in anyway, but ‘class’ as never concerned me either,

But many people feel that the RF in its present form is an outdated, expensive institution?

If something goes back to the wife of Alfred the Great, it could well be said to be outdated. Times change.

Of course!

Just because something has had long term use doesn’t mean its right / appropriate for the times we live in. We live in a different way now to previous centuries. Few people have servants, most people work, pre-pandemic many people travelled and were able to see different countries and ways of living. Many things change - language, attitudes, styles of living - and so some changes may occur in long-established systems.

Anniebach Fri 11-Feb-22 15:11:57

How long have women use Mrs. ?

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 11-Feb-22 14:57:05

What’s outdated about the wife of a British king being a queen?

Lucca Fri 11-Feb-22 14:50:36

That’s what I thought !!

Implication that Police should think more carefully before issuing someone with a fixed penality because they're the PM is abhorrent to the rule of law.

'Every man, whatever be his rank or condition, is subject to the ordinary law of the realm'

Although when it's a royal accused of sexual assault, or another royal accused of corruption,
@metpoliceuk
aren't interested. The monarchy is also abhorrent to the rule of law.

The royals claim to cost very little. The truth is that they cost us more than £345m a year, enough to pay for 13,000 new nurses or police officers. And no, they don't pay for themselves from the Crown Estate.

ICYMI our exclusive story from this morning’s Daily Express: the Queen did not consult the Government over the U-turn on Queen Camilla. Downing Street was “made aware” but constitutional experts were surprised that the monarch didn’t seek approval. express.co.uk/news/royal/1564430/royal-news-queen-elizabeth-II-decision-Camilla-queen-consort-boris-johnson-approval

It's a monarchy. Their disinterest in the views of parliament, government or people shouldn't be surprising.

Anniebach Fri 11-Feb-22 14:21:41

It isn’t outdated , it goes back to the wife of Alfred the Great,
should married women stop use of their husbands title unless they choose do ?

Lucca Fri 11-Feb-22 14:03:08

Could there be anything else to say…… it’s 2022 as I said before so who honestly cares about some outdated title nonsense ?

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 11-Feb-22 13:47:24

I’m eagerly awaiting what Lemsip has to say on the subject.
